Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Yeah that's absolutely not happening.
Heck we won't even reach this level of graphics and this is supposed to be a 12 years old demo.
This and The Division still mogs everything out there.

What? This looks VERY outdated. A game like Demon's Souls remake absolutely rips it to shreds technically, only thing that's cool here is the cinematography & of course the fire fluid simulations, that's about it.

I don't really see anything that looks on this level? The character models in demon souls certainly aren't there (that first switch to "gameplay"), or the animation/fx. IQ does look terrible tho

Crazy how watching this, you couldnt tell that these games were 11 years apart.
Infact to me, Unity looks better in these comparison.
Shows you how much the industry has dropped the ball in terms of graphics
The comparisons are misleading. Go play Unity maxed out on PC right now. It is showing its age. Lod pop-in on npc clothes, low res textures, very basic geometry outdoors, very limited npc routines, interiors look good but basic. Outdoor lighting still holds up but mostly due to art design.

Ac shadows is a generation ahead in lighting alone. It doesn't have those interiors but only because the interiors n Japan in that era weren't as lavish. The actual geometry And detail is leagues ahead.

Well pack it up boys, we had a good run

lol what? I have demon souls completed it all, this looks like cg, it's small sample to compare but faces, armor, fire effects, environment all looks better in this trailer, except resolution is lower.

Engines are the issue IMO, not hardware power...
There is tons of games that devs purposefully make last gen looking, best example would be mgs delta(proper current gen look) where graphic fidelity was priority but ran relatively terrible(from current gen standards pov, if u put it vs n64 mastepiece ocarinia of time which ran at constant 20fps it ofc runs smooth as hell ;p ) vs for example gears remaster, which obviously ran exceptionally well on consoles but looked totally last gen.

Many AAA devs, even including some first party studios do it, closest tellsign is- if game runs at 60fps and res above 1080p on base ps5/xsx- it means tons of graphic fidelity was left on the table coz back in ps4/xbox one gen this game would run at 30fps and on top it should use ai upscaling from current gen so say 800-900p native ai upscaled to 1440p.

Current graphics king(barely a game but still..) timestamped:

drs 964-1070p at 30fps (res seem weird coz its with black bars, just like the order 1886 which was graphical fidelity staple of previous gen).

Dunno how much we wanna believe cdpr devs but they too mentioned witcher4 demo ran at 800p(upscaled with ai ofc) in 60fps on base ps5
It also helps that while the final output is 4K, the tech demo runs two upscaling stages, with the primary frame rendering done at between 800p and 1080p, dynamically, and then the post-processing stage is handled at 1440p.

TLDR: For game to look proper current gen/impressive af internal native res cant be high, unfortunately, at least when it comes to current gen consoles.
Edit: Another proof for my theory, the matrix demo, timestamped:

1055p at 24fps durning super impressive chase black bars scenes for ps5/series x
1200p at 30fps with black bars with city overview
On top internal resolutions are 1/3rd of output res :)

gotta admit that Keeper walking sim does looking like something else in a very good way

Nah this is the same studio that said we want to make a ps4 game with no cross Gen upgrades to keep things the same across both generations. They are lost. They are irrelevant. They haven't made a new game since 2018 with gow essentially being DLC. No one cares what they have to say.

Plenty of devs have ambition to push not just visuals but themselves. They just happen to be non Sony and non Nintendo devs. Just look at how much new stuff io interactive is adding to their next game. Ignore the lazy cunts and let them make their 2d gow no one will give a shit about.

Its a puzzle game. Not a walking sim. Looks absolutely gorgeous. Why can't Nintendo games look this beautiful.

I really feel like I'm being gaslit here, which scene do you see "CG" here?

1. This is literally early PS4 garbage textures & lighting here, the torch's light emits no shadows at all, the textures & geometry here are extremely weak compared to even Uncharted 4's final levels when you're in that trap infested level close to Avery's treasure.

2. This next shot here looks about as gamey as it can get.

3. This shot here looks very outdated, the textures here are simply blurry, the lighting in the background looks like those outdated pre-baked areas in late 360 early PS4 era, the only thing that is good here are the volumetric light shafts & lighting near-camera looks to be using some kind of voxelized lighting approximations (which is a lesser form of SVOGI), which gives the image a bit of a nice lighting-gradience, something that didn't exist in most PS4 titles.

4. The face model here looks horrendous & the lighting is extremely uneven, the model of the armor looks great though, I have to give it that.

5. Great looking Dragon model, looks stunning here even to this day, I would say the tutorial boss in Demon's Souls remake looks much more technically elaborate than this, what's good here in the lighting placement & the cinematic flair.

If this released today, it'd look laughably bad, and since this is a trailer that focused on showcasing the very best of what they made, imagine if it's a full-on game with all of its inconsistencies, it won't end up looking good.

The geometry complexity, lighting, shadowing, textures, materials, effects (except the fire fluid) & almost every conceivable graphical points pale in comparison to Demon's Souls remake, Boletaria castle alone has like 100x times more geometry than this.

I see a lot of bf6 related discussion here and you guys have to play the mp to really get a sense of how it all comes together. The single player levels feel stale because devs just can't script the kind of shit that happens constantly in these mp modes. I've never played anything this atmospheric before. The scale of some of the maps is insane. I was once flying a drone and saw three tanks in a column go up a road blowing shit up only to just get fucking ambushed by the enemy team. I had the perfect Birds Eye view of it and it felt like those pentagon leaked videos. Absolutely glorious.

If there is another game that captures war this well, id like to play it.

This mixed with the war tapes VAL makes online battles in breakthrough insane.

Battles feel alive

Yeah nothing comes close to the chaos in battlefield, wherever you look there's some crazy shit going on. Flying around a drone is really good way of seeing it. The sound design and destruction really work well here. I just wish the graphics were pushed further.

You should really play hd2 if you like that type of chaos.

You're missing what made the DD trailer impressive. It wasn't normal PS4 stuff it ran on Capcom's early Panta Rhei target render, basically tech preview for RE Engine with dynamic GI and volumetric lightning, not baked lights like DS remake, the torch shadow isn't a flaw it's voxel cone traced GI, which gives soft light bleed instead of harsh shadow. DS has more geometry and higher resolution but lightning is still baked GI + static sources, in DD trailer light actually behaves like real light: bouncing, scattering through smoke etc, DD has very high tessellation, fully volumetric smoke, fire(fluid sim) true heat haze and refractive distortion, every ember and spark emits real dynamic light, affecting surroundings, while DS looks absolutely great it's not a tech demo, it's a game made to run on console and DD trailer is tech demo ahead of it's time.

Hell is Us really has it's hooks in me at this point. Definitely the most underrated game of the year IMO. In a just world this would be getting the same attention Expedition 33 did.

A really strong, consistent visual presentation as well. The world is so well realized and the whole game has a very distinct vibe about it.

Yeah this is GOTY no doubt. Unfortunately most people seem to have assumed it's a straight souls-like (marketing could have done better on this bit, but past a certain point a lot gamers will see what they want to see no matter what see in order to bitch about "too many souls-likes" or whatever). Also not enough yellow paint for the average gamer.

What's this from?
Half sword devs are showing everyday snippets of the content for the early access release.

This is the fool's wheel

The game is never gonna be a looker, but in terms of tech, these guys already have some top shelf stuff going on so i would not be surprised if they can just make top of the shelf tech again for other secondary graphical aspects.

I've dreamed with this since the PS3 demos era.

Too lazy to do pics but when it switches to the first person view where he's looking at the other guy in armor it looks pretty cg (not great cg but like 2000's cg cutscene)
