How Often Has Your Top 10 Changed?

Arsic

Loves his juicy stink trail scent
I feel like for the longest time my top 10 games of all time weren't shaken. But since PS4 and now this year on PS5, my personal top 10 changes a lot.

For reference this was likely my list:

Final fantasy XI online
Suikoden 2
Persona 4
StarCraft 2
Metal Gear Solid 3
Chrono Trigger
Dark Souls
Last of us
Street Fighter 4
Gears of War

Now?

Final Fantasy XI Online
Diablo 2 Resurrected
Ninja Gaiden 2
Metal Gear Solid 2
Bloodborne
Resident Evil 2 Remake
Clair Obscur 33
Red Dead Redemption 2
Ikaruga
Final Fantasy Tactics Ivalice Chronicles

I had a lot more time to play games in the last few years to play things I missed, new remakes or remasters, and trying new things in general.

Honorable mentions go to:
Disco Elysium
13 Sentinels Aegis Rim
Silent Hill 2 Remake

What about you guys? Has your list changed a lot with games like Zelda breath of the wild or maybe Elden Ring?

Top 10 hasn't changed since its creation. Top 50 has seen some new blood though. Namely wonderful 101, MGSV, Xenoblade X, Nightcry, and Dragonball the Breakers broke in.

Going from top ten game lists to straight up dicks

I guess that I never thought a top 10, byt my favorite game is Doom (1993). Ocarina of Time maybe is my second favorite, but this is coming out of my mind now. There's a lot to go back

My top 10:

Bloodborne
Elden Ring
Hollow Knight
Dark Souls
Dark Souls 3
Stellar Blade
Metroid Prime
Shadow of the Colossus
Wind Waker
A Link to the Past

Metroid Dread and Silksong might take some spots on that list

Frequently:

1. Elden Ring
2. Baldur's Gate 3
3. Resident Evil 4 Remake
4. Link to the Past
5. Dark Souls
6. Resident Evil 2 Remake
7. Final Fantasy Tactics

The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series stays as they're easily the best of all times with mods and I totally count them with mods since it's made for it and with how well it fits for the game. Warcraft 3/Reforged will also always stay.

1 Morrowind
2 Fallout 3
3 Fallout New Vegas
4 Skyrim
5 Fallout 4
6 Warcraft 3/Reforged
7 Oblivion
8 Starcraft
9 World of Warcraft
10. Resident Evil 2 OG

Sometimes these will take over a spot at 7 or lower depending on my mood
Half Life
Resident Evil 1 OG
Resident Evil 1 Remake
Starcraft 2
Final Fantasy IX

Oh wow, I've never made a Top 10 list.

I've played so many games since the late 80's and I bounce around a lot. But maybe I do have a top 10?

Off the top of my head. These games mean a lot to me and I could play them to this day. I'll try ordering them:

  1. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  2. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
  3. Final Fantasy VII
  4. The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time
  5. Super Mario 64
  6. Super Mario World
  7. Super Mario Bros. 3
  8. Mega Man 2 & 3
  9. Final Fantasy IV
  10. Final Fantasy VI

Honorable mentions:
  • Earthbound
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Punch-Out
  • Destiny 2
  • Halo 2
  • Phantasy Star Online
  • Street Fighter 2
  • Mortal Kombat 2 and 3

It's interesting. I didn't like RPGs at all as a kid. Earthbound was my first one. FFVII was my second.

A LOT of recent games on this list.

What would've been the top 3 before those came out recently?

Metroid Prime Remastered, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Breath of the Wild are the only games of the last decade that forced their way into my all time top ten.
I mean that's almost a third of the list changed. That's a sizable chunk. What held it before then?

Not sure I can answer this one.
I have a couple dozen all-time favorite games. All tied for #1. Whatever is in the top spot changes constantly.

My earliest "Favorite Game" was Pool of Radiance (1988). My most recent favorite is Dying Light (2015). Nothing released since then would be in the top 25. Although Gears Tactics would probably be close.

My top 10 doesn't change very often, but there have been a few games that have cracked it, like Xenoblade Chronicles, Nier Automata, and possibly Hollow Knight Silksong in the last decade and change. But it's pretty stable. Super Metroid, SOTN, Ninja Gaiden Black, etc. - those'll always be on the list.

Fine. I'll chime in with my GOAT list (In no order)

1. Half-Life 2 (2004)
2. Bloodborne (2015)
3. Metal Gear Solid (1998)
4. Total Annihilation (1997)
5. Carmageddon (1997)
6. Medieval 2: Total War (2006)
7. Super Mario Galaxy (2007)
8. Super Maro Bros 3 (1988)
9. Mass Effect 2 (2010)
10. Fallout 3 (2008)

That's just from the top of my head. If I put some real thought into it then that would 100% change.

Great question and thanks or asking.

I'm going to adjust the list here, here is the OG:

1. Elden Ring
2. Baldur's Gate 3
3. Resident Evil 4 Remake
4. Link to the Past
5. Dark Souls
6. Resident Evil 2 Remake
7. Final Fantasy Tactics
8. Clair Obscur Expedition 33
9. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
10. Portal

Cross out all the newish ones(leaving Portal I suppose, so my cutoff date will be October 10, 2007, which will mean that my Xenoblade/Bloodborne/Dark Souls 3, some Mario games don't make the cut)

That leaves:

1. Link to the Past
2. Dark Souls
3. Final Fantasy Tactics
4. Portal

5. Symphony of the Night
6. Ocarina of Time
7. Super Mario World
8. Wind Waker
9. KOTOR
10. Final Fantasy VII

I'll do honorable mentions:
Vagrant Story, Chrono Trigger, Silent Hill 2, Mass Effect 2, Final Fantasy XII(I get that VI is the most loved and I do love VI, and I get that many think VII is overrated....but I'm a VII man), Mario Odyssey, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Demon's Souls, Mario 64, Fable 1, DOS2, and Lies of P. I love plenty of games besides this and I've got the plat for P5R(so don't feel left out Atlus, I also left out Fire Emblem and love that series) but those above are my goats.

My top 10 is always changing. I play a new game, or revisit an old classic, and they're always pushing each other out of the list.

This is kind of as close as I can get to a semi-definitive list with as little recency bias as possible:

1. Resident Evil 4 (2005)
2. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
3. Deus Ex
4. Ninja Gaiden Black
5. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
6. God of War (2005)
7. Demon's Souls (2009)
8. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
9. Left 4 Dead 2
10. Deadly Premonition

Clearly a man of refined taste no matter the list.

It changes a lot. Sometimes you replay an old game you loved and realize it doesn't really hold up anymore.

That said, this will always be my #1. ^^^^

Mine never stops changing. Current favorites:

Yakuza 5 - Saejima's escaped convict arc with him rolling up enemies into snowmen and dressing up as Santa Claus to kick ass is fun.
k0aldo3qaa621.gif

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3+4 - It refines everything I liked about goal oriented arcade style skateboarding in the franchise and gives me more of it in higher fidelity.
THPS34_London_Lights_Grind_GIF.gif

Tekken 6 - Sometimes I just want to dorya a mofo and this iteration offers the best version of that to me.
j8psWFWOnDH1ernS.gif

Real Bout Fatal Fury Special - It has a cool roster with pretty stages and perfectly tuned movesets.
kHttCEg.gif

Ninja Gaiden Sigma - I love mixing acrobatics with precise combat against tough enemies and interconnected levels with verticality.
sigma-2.gif

Forza Horizon 3 - Cool cars, responsive simcade handling, scenic map, and fun challenges make taking a ride a pleasure cruise.

Earthworm Jim - Amazing animations and sound effects elevate the precise shooting, snappy whip attacks, and varied platforming to being irresistible.
giphy-17.gif

Dead Rising 3 - I really love crafting super weapons and vehicles on the run as I massacre zombies and psychos across a whole city.
9595599578_d6718ef70d_o.gif

Days Gone - It makes suburban warfare satisfying, big map with upgraded bike is fun to ride through, and the plot is good too.

Bloodborne - It mixes exceptional level design and gory combat with Lovecraftian monstrosities and I enjoy it more than I should.

Never put a list together honestly. I bet you if I created a list today and created another next week, they would be quite different in that I can think of about 4 titles that are absolute, but the remaining six is a crap shoot for me. So many good memories! I just can't remember them all!

It changes, sometimes not for years at a time, but I often go back to play old classics I missed that can sometimes switch things up. It also takes a little while for newer games to pass the test of time.

Right now the top 5 have been solidified, though minor changes to order (aside from OoT and SotC):

1. Zelda: Ocarina of Time
2. Shadow of the Colossus
3. Halo: Combat Evolved
4. Resident Evil 4
5. Metroid Prime
6. Super Mario Odyssey
7. Hollow Knight
8. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
9. Monster Hunter World
10. The Messenger

At one point in the past, it would have had Pokemon HG/SS, Legend of Dragoon, Borderlands 2, Super Smash Bros Melee, NieR Replicant. Thing is, I keep playing more and more games, but there are only ever 10 slots in the list. That makes it hard for new games to enter, like Elden Ring, that would have otherwise been easy additions had I not played as many.

My personal Top 10 usually stays the same but the order changes depending on the time of year and how I'm feeling when i reminisce about those games.

Sometimes recency bias creeps in but eventually things fix themselves.

If you keep changing it your list is meaningless. Or it means that you never really thought about it (very well), and just put games in there you enjoyed a lot at the time of playing.

I don't have a top ten, too much to try to remember there. I'm a fave five kinda guy, so 5 games that you love in no particular order.
It doesn't change much though.
Chrono Trigger
SF3 Third Strike
The Witcher 2
MegaMan X
Resident Evil 4,(original)
