It wiggles a little. Every once in awhile something comes out that really demands inclusion. At the same time, I feel like I could still waffle on them.
For instance, if you were a Hollow Knight person... if that's clearly in your top 10, does Silksong (which is in many, many ways an improvement IMO) ALSO have to be included?
Or you listed the new FF Tactics release... how much credit do you have to give Tactics, which is a full, what, 30 years old at this point? If you loved Tactics and that's in your top 10, does this new release also have to go in there? Because it, like Silksong, improves on the original a LOT.
I value groundbreaking development over incredible iteration. But only just. That said, it's a personal top 10 list... as you'll see from all over this thread, there's LOTS of personal opinions and nostalgic choices that pop up on these lists.
Here's what competes for my top 10, generally.
Mario 64, Super Metroid, A Link to the Past, Unreal Tournament, World of Warcraft, Red Dead Redemption, Sam & Max Hit the Road, Full Throttle, The Secret of Monkey Island, The Last of Us, The Last of Us Part 2, Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy Tactics, Xenogears, Tekken 3, Metal Gear Solid, Half Life 2, Ninja Gaiden Black, Halo, Doom 2, Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Hollow Knight, Silksong, Symphony of the Night, Chrono Trigger, Earthworm Jim, God of War 2, GTA San Andreas, Winning Eleven (one of them in the mid-aughts... Master League ftw!), NBA Live 95, aaaaand The Division. And maybe The Division 2 (very specific nostalgia, for me personally)
If I had to pare this down, it would probably mean having to make hard choices to only include 1 title from really specific devs, or genres, or series. And cutting the sports games which are SO iterative. And letting go of the bigger personal inclusions.
So, right now (in order of greatness!)...
Super Metroid
Mario 64
Unreal Tournament
World of Warcraft
Final Fantasy Tactics
A Link to the Past
Tekken 3
Final Fantasy 7
Metal Gear Solid
Half Life 2
Boy. That was pretty hard. But those top.... NINE... they basically never change. And I don't know what it would take to put something like Hollow Knight or RDR or TLOU over HL2. Those are probably the 3 clearest honorable mentions, for me.
So I guess the answer is no, it doesn't change very much.
