The next-gen [Xbox] console is going to be a very premium, very high-end curated experience: Sarah Bond

Devil is in the details. It will either be an incredibly brilliant and cohesive gaming experience or it will be a convoluted mess.
I mean… it's Microsoft so chances of the latter is much much greater! 😉

Also, can't wait to see how they are going to convince people to pay for online on basically a PC. 🧐

A former T-Mobile executive clueless about the gaming industry, Phil "We are learning" Spencer, Matt " oblivious to game quality " Booty , Jason "Please forget about the Achievement system improvements I promised " Ronald and Aaron "The Ren & Stimpy of marketing " Greenberg.

All still there and behind the scenes of whatever this friggin thing is.

Unbelievable.

No sane person who supported OG Xbox/360 would support the corporation who destroyed the brand and its mascot Master Chief's game.

Also the multiplatform thing was not always sunshine in Xbox. The 6th gen GTA games were superior on PS2.

Many Japanese games like Tales of Vesperia and Eternal Sonata got extra content in PS3. PS3 versions of many games like FF XIII and Catherine had better cutscenes as they were compressed in 360. GTA V looked better on PS3 due to superior textures.
Splinter Cell Blacklist had superior textures on the PS3 disc than 360 disc. For 360 you had to install HD textures DLC to have textures as good as PS3. Now that 360 online is gone, you have the superior version in PS3 only.

It was all on case by case basis.

I guess I'm not sane then.

So a PC from an OEM with Xbox branding.

Is that entirely true though?
The Xbox One X was more powerful, better made, and IMO better looking than the PS4 Pro. That power also translated to games.

The Series X is also technically more powerful than the PS5 but the problem seems to be that it doesn't always translate directly to games. I heard this second hand on Sacred Symbols but I think Tom from MLiD said there's an inside joke within AMD that is essentially "Microsoft has engineers? lol"because the Series X is more "off the shelf" while the PS5 was more tailor made for games which is why a lot of times the PS5 can make up the difference despite being less powerful.
Series X has a split RAM configuration (10+6 GB) that makes it difficult for games to optimize. PS5 has a unified 16 GB RAM. PS5 also has a higher GPU clock speed and better tools for devs.
So, better RAM, better GPU and better dev tools.

Oh.....if I were a betting man then all my chips would be on "convoluted mess". Having played around with FSE for a bit, they have lost their mind if they think this is the experience their customers want. Sarah talks a good game, but talk is cheap and actually implementing this stuff is going to be incredibly difficult, imo.

Stop lying, duder.

SC Blacklist was a 2 disc game, the HD Texture Pack was on disc 2.

And Japanese devs like Capcom had the clearly better multi-plat version on X360 over PS3, sometimes drastically so.

It is a case by case basis and X360 was the better multi-plat machine in most cases.

ps. the best console versions of both SC Blacklist and Final Fantasy XIII are currently on Series consoles, you can't even play them on PS5 outside of cloud streaming.

It's going to be the same as Xbox Ally. Only "Play Anywhere" games will be compatible natively, because they'll be PC versions. Anything else will require XCloud.
That's why they've recently been talking about new emulation and licenses. I doubt any 6th/7th gen games will play on it (not the Xbox versions, anyway).

$1200.

This shit is completely dead on arrival.

They've learned nothing from the Xbox ROG Ally X reveal.

Why would anyone invest in this shit when PCs exist?

The only way such strategy could fly (barely) would be a Neo-Geo type of console with EXCLUSIVE games of superior quality.

Since they aren't going for exclusivity and their studios don't have that kind of talent either, it's a dumb idea.

"Does fucking everything" beats exclusivity IMO.

Isn't it the opposite?

Magnus is supposedly targeting a high spec system with an RDNA 5 GPU, what $800 PC will come close to that in 2027.
It's still an APU though, and the high spec system it would be targeting would be a current high spec system not a high spec system in 2027.

Trust me, I have a lot of history with Xbox and I would love for them to come out with a device that punches super far above it's weight and if the rumors are true could replace my PC but I just can't see a world in which they sell a device that sells for cheap enough that anything but the most diehard go for.

Everything about their wording and something like the Xbox Ally X would imply this device is going to be very expensive and building your own PC will be much cheaper.

I don't think it will work, but at least it's a different niche in the console market, basically for those who want more powerful hardware but still maintain a plug 'n play experience compared to building a PC.

At least it's better than what we're seeing now, where the Series X is more expensive than the PlayStation 5 and offers basically the same performance and image quality.

don't get me wrong I prefer a PC with an nvidia gpu or ps6 true console

Good luck buying a ''PC'' and paying to play online.

I think so, too.
It's basically going to be, choose a midrange gaming pc or a slick do-everything-box, they'll be roughly the same price and kind of be the same thing, lol.

Prebuilt gaming PC companies be sweating bullets right now.

A console with a generational technical advantage should have exclusive games for the sole reason that those games couldnt be made or ported to inferior systems. It doesn't make sense to have "a monster console" if games don't use half of that power. I don't mean higher resolution or fps, but gameplay mechanics, AI and world design only possible in XBOX.

The gap should be bigger than going from Switch 1 to PS5.

Trust me they aren't. This thing will have the price of a gaming PC with none of the advantages.

It's a shitty "curated" Xbox experience with a premium price that will offer no real advantages over a PC. Consumers that want PCs will still end up choosing prebuilt PCs or building their own PCs. This is just another failed way for MS to milk their most loyal fans while making it look like they haven't exited the hardware business when they've completely checked out.

Sorry can't hear you over all this WORLD OF WARCRAFT

Finally they're starting to leak what was already known.
It's going to be a niche super expensive device in the boxed gaming PC market.
Their issue is that people with that money (>1000$) are just going to buy a PC.
They're probably betting that they still have a 10-15m fanbase that is going to buy whatever has a Xbox logo and is marketed as the next Xbox and if margins are higher for them on this kind of device also for software/services sales it will be worth it.

It most likely will be if they are to go the route of hardware BC.

You're going to have to pay for that specialised chip that takes care if your existing library.
I like what I hear. They are basically going after the prebuilt gaming PC market, offering a cheaper product with a controller friendly UI.

Quoting both as they're related. In Grubb's podcast from a few days ago when he was running down the Magnus stuff, he said that what he's heard it's going to be targeting specs that would usually be found in more expensive pre-built PC's.

RDNA 5 doesn't even have a release date and is tentatively targeting 2027 going by some google searches, so this (if it lines up to Magnus) is going to be a pretty good, modern, machine when it launches by 2027 standards.

So Phil was probably talking to Microsoft leadership when he stated you can't grow the market with $1000 consoles this will be the first generation I don't own an Xbox if it's over 1k.

Well the Xbox Series was supposed to be RDNA 2.576534 and we all know how that's turned out in terms of real world performance.

Doesn't Nvidia have like 90% of the gaming market share? Have a hard time believing that everyone is just going to be ok switching over to AMD. I went AMD once and never went back. My cousin went AMD with a prebuilt and now his gaming PC doesn't run unless he has a fan blowing directly on it with the case open.

PS5 and Series are both AMD boxes.

What did I tell you guys:
MS/Xbox have a bad price problem on their hands. It's the reason why you have people like Jez trying to suggest xbox is now a "premium product" when a shit Series S gets a price hike and discontinued at retail. They're going to try and excuse this high price by marketing the next announced price as a "premium product".

Speaking of Capcom, Dragons Dogma on PS3 still has online servers, but they are gone for 360. No point in playing it in 360. More people played on PS3 and you got better pawns online. Also, the 360 version of Dragons Dogma had more screen tearing than PS3. PS3 install was 8.9 GB and 360 install was 7.9 GB, so clearly some textures were downscaled.
It is a case by case basis and X360 was the better multi-plat machine in most cases.

No, I am talking about PS3 vs 360, not the DRM box.
