Kepler: PS6 $600 and Xbox Magnus $1200

I think Sony should aim for $550

So a thread centered around someone's guess? I get that this is considered an insider, but they obviously don't have inside info into the pricing. Seems like this would fit nicely in one of the multiple other threads on the topic of next gen hardware.

There is literally zero chance the next Xbox will cost $1200.

The brand already failed with the Xbox One and Series X, and this will take it lower.

Kepler already said the cost to make the next Xbox is double that of the Series X which is $650. So It's going to be $1300 just for MS to make it. You think they are going to subsidize the console while offering Steam?

You think anyone outside of .01% of people are going to shell out $1300 with the state of global economy, just to play Xbox...?

If they actually call this thing Xbox Magnus, it will continue Microsoft's trend of stupid fucking names

$1200 is an instant write off for most I imagine. Unless of course it is an upgradeable PC in a console shell, which of course it won't be I imagine.

$600 is probably about right for a PS6 considering where we are in the world at this point. I paid for a PS5 Pro so I'll welcome something that launches at a cheaper price than that.

"Kepler says the next gen Xbox will cost $1300 for MS to make, so they'll sell it unsubsidized at $1200"

$600 can work if there's a permanent price drop for the Pro, which would have to be as the current MSRP of $700 wouldn't make sense by end of 2027.

Not gonna happen for a while, but if next-gen games look like that first UE5 video for PS5, then I'm in at higher price point (if I had to).

699 for PS6. It will go down well especially after the Pro price. IMO Sony could do cheeper but will want the scalpers profits for themselves. Hopefully they keep selling the ps5 at a lower price. 399.

I think $1200 will deliver hybrid device that can play BC library up to XSX, but anything new will be MS Windows Store (renamed to Xbox Store to confuse even more people).

The question is performance per $. In 2027 we will have 6000 series from Nvidia and RDNA5 from AMD. So it better at least get to 5070Ti / 9070XT performance for that price, preferably better.

Sony's strategy has always been to offer a machine cheaper than equivalent PC and making profit of games. At 700$, people will just prefer PC.

$600 is too low for a next-gen console, the PS5 Pro is still $700.
Pro is enthusiasts console sold for profit (and having fraction of vanilla sales).
PS6 will target mass market as usual and it's kinda hard to do with 700-800$ tag "Sony too" green fans suggest.

Ps5Pro will be discontinued on PS6 launch, same as PS4Pro. It's stop-gap console, not a proper iteration.

$1200 is too much for the leaked specs.

It is about 40% faster i reckon. $899 would be something more realistic.

I am looking to get a Switch2 as a secondary gaming console for the family getover. But it and its games are expensive and holding me back, even though i can afford them. It is just as a second throwaway console, will going to be heavily under utilised and a waste of space.

I am a great example.

Sarah can set a high SRP, but you must get the audience committed to buy and see value from it..

The PS5 line will remain on the market until 2030 at the earliest.

Which if you assume PS6 is coming out before 2030, it will inevitably have to share retail space for at least a year or two.

So, unless Sony is going to eat losses by dropping RRP on the 5 line, just on optics any PS6 will need to slot in at a price-point above it...

$600, well, $599 is the logical entry price (without drive of course).

Price tag means nothing when we (as in NeoGAF) don't know what we're getting. For the general population / average joe, yeah that's too expensive. People will stick to their PS4s and smartphones.

I think Sony will do everything possible to not exceed $599 for the digital model of PS6, Xbox is already warning you that it will be an expensive system so $1000-1200 is a sure thing, I don't understand MS's strategy to sell as little as possible, it's the worst path they could take.

I would say they're prob both gonna launch within 750-850.

People wishing for a $600 console or laughing at a traditional native $1,200 console are fooling themselves.

Xbox better have a Magnus Series S for 399 or they will not sell much hardware.

Let's translate these prices to real life.

$999.99 for Xbox Magnus
$499.99 for Kepler PS6

Magnus is DOA at twice the price. M$ needs a lower priced SKU.

MS would have to subsidize console for this price and with Steam side-loading they wouldn't for sure. +30% for performance and +30% for margin to allow side-loading and it's already +100%
It'll be a pc-like console with pc-like price tag.
