Oblivion Remastered |OT| Kvatching up with an old hero

No, I played originally on 360 and on PC. I just never finished the damn thing. lol

Just started playing a bit more the last few days. It is a travesty how buggy it still is. Random crashes and really slow menu performance highlight the problems for me. Bethesda is still shit at updating games. Some things never change.
Sorry to hear that. The Remaster was the first Bethesda game I was able to complete without having a quest bugged.

Yeah. I have never had good experiences with console versions of Bethesda games. They make atrocious console ports. My brother said he had a good experience with New Vegas on PS3 but that is likely an outlier.

I beat Oblivion Game of the Year way back when on Xbox 360, and I think I had a handful of issues (Knights of the Nine, and the vampire mission).

Had to scour the internet for workarounds, and was able to fortunately beat the game and get all but one achievement.

Fallout 3 Game of the Year was a different story, where Operation Anchorage chugged liked a mofo and I think was one of the reasons I stopped playing the game and never came back round to beating it.

This was like 15 years ago, and I haven't played any of the other games, but sounds like nothing has changed.

The crashes in this game are insane. Bethesda should be ashamed.

Finished all the factions. Getting the main story done and then I'm uninstalling this shit "remaster"

Bethesda didn't make this game. However, yes, I agree that they badly need to fix the memory leak. Going into the holiday season, this is unacceptable.

Still Bethesda's game. Not like they do not have control over the quality of the product even if they paid someone else to do the remaster.

This shouldn't have been released like this much less let it continue in this condition for months after launch

I doubt think any team at Bethesda is allocated to oversee this game at this point, given they are busy with their three other games. That's why you pay someone to handle. Did they pick the wrong developer to handle this IP? Clearly. The fact that another major patch has not been released after all these months is disastrous and Bethesda should ask for a refund.

Ultimately Bethesda is the publisher and it is their responsibility to ensure a quality product is being sold. Only ones deserving of a refund are people who paid for the game. Bethesda has already made their money back and then some. I'm not crying any tears for Bethesda here. They pushed this game out despite the problems even though there wasn't even a release date for the game since it was shadow dropped. They could have delayed the game internally, fired Virtuous and have someone else fix the problems. But they pushed this mess out as is. That's on Bethesda.

It really sucks too because it is such a great game. It just deserves better than this.

To be clear, they could still release an update, fire Virtuous and give right the ship. They haven't done so since April and now we're going into the Christmas season with a game the experiences major memory leaks, pop-in issues and framerate drops.

Quite a bit late but sure

Respect. I gave up on this garbage after crashing 10 times in a row trying to enter the Great Gate outside Bruma.

Holy shit, that's some serious commitment. I remember grinding all the achievements on the 360 version back in the day, so I know how much effort that takes.

Oblivion is one of the easier games to 1000G/Plat. You just need to complete all the faction and main quest lines. The only thing you need to replay is from the mid point of Shivering Isles once more.

Maddening, isn't it? Can't understand how it was released like this.

Time consuming finishing all the factions, but yeah, not all that difficult. I'm glad I finally was able to finish the story after all these years even though game crashing fought me every step of the way.

What do you mean you have to replay "mid point of Shivering Isles"?

You can't get both the Duke of Mania and Duke of Dementia achievements in a single run, you need to reload an older save to choose which of the two houses to join, in the Shivering Isles expansion.

Gotcha. I'll have to wait and see if Bethesda fixes the game before I check out any of the DLC even though it is included.

Yes, but it will do that for you anyway outside of the crashing. I'm at 160 hours and I still have not fully explored everything, but I have maxed out nearly all of my skills/attributes at level 40, I have half a million gold and I have discovered and equipped full reflect damage and chameleon gear. I have essentially become a combination of these two things:

predator-eyes.gif

Thankfully I was already 4/5 of the way done with the game by the time this all happened, but the reason I'm pointing this out is because you will max out and eventually find everything beneath you and not worth your time as you will feel godly in almost all situations, which means that exploring might get boring because even good loot doesn't matter anymore after you reach a certain point of overpoweredness.

On a side note I'm glad I didn't play this game on normal or I would have reached this much point sooner. On expert difficulty I found this to be the perfectly paced journey from Weakling to Superhuman and it all felt earned.
I still remember when I got the shield with 100% magic resist, and that basically took every threat out the window with paralysis, stamina drain etc, since with full acrobatics and athletics you can run rings around everything.

Really not that hard and you only have to do the good stuff in the game. Skyrim is much worse to 100% with the legendary dragons crap.

I think I just got lucky, my experience was fine. Had occasional stutter but nothing near as bad as others had. Probably due to upgrading to a 9070XT the month before, which has very impressive 1% lows.

Good game. Enjoying it quite a bit. Level 29, about 130 hours in. Still haven't touched the Main Quest. Spent most of the first hundred hours just exploring -- wandering the hills, going in every fort, Ayelid ruin, or cave I ran across. Levelled up quite a bit doing that. Then switched to questing.

I'm a dark elf archer. I'd like to play as a good character but have heard too many good things about the Dark Brotherhood questline to ignore it. Fighter's Guild and Thieves' Guild quests have been pretty ordinary so far, but Mage's Guild has had some interesting ones.

I have only recently started to fast travel. Everything before that was on foot. Don't really see the point of horses. I'm a speedy archer, so I can move pretty fast as it is. I would prefer to run through the countryside rather than fast travel, because it's a pretty world, and it's more immersive that way. But I like to fast travel sometimes, too, particularly around the Imperial City.

I didn't love Oblivion when it first came out, because I had adored Morrowind, and Oblivion seemed like a dumbing-down of that. But now that Bethesda has fallen from grace, I'm enjoying Oblivion for what it is -- a really solid Elder Scrolls game.

Wish there were more Scrolls-likes out there, but I don't see many. Tainted Grail, maybe. If I get into PC, I know I'll be hitting up the Skyrim mods and Morrowind mods. I've heard there are some pretty good expansions available there, but not on PS5 (where I am now).

the game is now essentially abandonware. It's a real shame as it's otherwise a pretty outstanding remaster, just plagued by performance issues

Honestly, that's why I'm waiting for Skyblivion.

And remastered just drops and drops in price in the meantime. Maybe by the time Skyblivion releases it will be priced even further off.

I haven't had much issues on my PC. The game runs great and it's only crashed once after a little over 114 hours. A few times I've had a menu bug, but then I just save/reload and it's fixed. I also had an issue in a well during the Mage's Guild quest line where my tall Nord couldn't fit through a gap, but a save/reload fixed it.

I finished Oblivion on the X360 back in the day, but never did the Shivering Isles DLC, Thieves Guild, Dunbarrow Cove or Dark Brotherhood quest lines.

I just finished up the Mage's Guild and Frostcrag Spire quest lines. Now it's time to stow away my Knights of the Nine gear and join Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood, and claim Dunbarrow Cove as my new lair.

After that, walk the path of righteousness once more, reclaim my Knights of the Nine gear, finish gathering my allies and defeat the Mythic Dawn.

I finished off the Remaster the other day. Great game. I completed Shivering Isles, Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood for the first time this playthrough. It took me about 160 hrs to complete all the main quests, along with a ton of side quests. The Knights of the Nine and all the guild strongholds should have been worth some Achievements/Trophy's, as that was some substantial DLC back in the day.

I still think Oblivion is better than Skyrim, but overall, Morrowind is still my favorite Elder Scrolls game.

I finished all the guild questlines (thieves, fighters, mages, DB). Explored most of the countryside, have maybe 10% remaining. Level 30, probably 160 hours in.

There are a few Daedric shrine quests I haven't completed and don't intend to, because I just didn't like the assignment. For some reason, I didn't mind murdering for the DB, but some of the Daedra quests offended my moral sensibilities, such as they are. I'm not going to murder people who are kind and welcoming. The Hircine quest was good, though. I ended up wearing that hairy vest throughout the whole game. Good bonuses, although it looked goofy.

Apart from the DLC, then, I'm pretty much done. Guess it's time to do the main quest, look for Martin whathisname.

edit: Fuck it; I forgot how annoying, claustrophobic, gloomy, and repetitive the Oblivion gates are. I'm going to skip the main quest entirely.

You and me both buddy. I never played it originally back on 360... well I did but for like 1 or 2 hours, got bored and never touched it again. Bought it for PS5 when it came out and then played in the end of May and did everything including the Shivering Isle. Was a fun experience but dated for obvious reasons. Looking forward to the inevitable Fallout 3 and New Vegas Remasters now, although I did 100% fallout 3 including DLC on PS3 back in the day. I'll do it again lol.

I'm playing again on PC since I have a spell that automatically closes oblivion gates and gives me the upgrade mats lol. Worst thing about this game are those gates.

Guys stop I really don't wanna play again. There's so much now and on the horizon.

GOTY 2025 for me
I didn't get around to play some of the games that were up for major awards, but I absolutely loved this game. In agreement with you on it being a personal GOTY.

I didn't have the issues that some were running into. So, nothing for me to complain about. Was totally immersed in this one.
