The Outer Worlds 2 hits 18,251 all-time CCU peak on Steam

I buy more games than I should and Outer Worlds 2 is a game that should appeal to me. But Obsidian insists on chasing the modern audience so I insist on not buying. 🤷

Exactly what I love my man Kacho most - the unapologetic alpha male aura, lol.

I might check it out in the future. I won't be dying on the hill of playing ugly characters, but I just can't stand any single bits of cringy writings, I've no ideas if TOW 2 is the case.

I'm sure the gameplay is fine. The RPG depth I'm unclear on.

Every time I pull up gameplay there's some unlikable woman yapping about something. That's just not what I'm into and I refuse to subject myself to it. I've seen enough to know I'd be annoyed more often than not, just like the first game.

Disagree with me, call me stupid, call me simple. I don't give a single fuck. I'm not bending the knee.

I think this would have surpassed avowed if there wasn't so much to play right now. Whole year has been packed but Avowed released in a less crowded time.
I'm 3 hours in and I'm pretty much done for reasons already outlined in this thread. If this wasn't on gamepass there is no chance I would have checked it out

Like you said there is so much out there. Games that are perfectly tailored for what I'm looking for. I'll let the "modern audience" support this one.

I totally understand. What I value most in a RPG most are good characters and mature writings (JRPGs is different story obviously, lol, but the ones I love all have great characters). That's why I go all in to support games like KCD2 and Witcher.

BG3 is definitely modernized with those progressive stuff, but the characters and writings are good enough for me to keep engaged. That why I probably will give TOW 2 a shot in the future, but with Expedition 33, trails in the sky 1st, and Oblivion remaster still in backlog, it's gonna be a long while, lol.

Strike 1.
Strike 2.
Strike 3.
These are not the gotcha's you think they are warrior. Otherwise you won't be huffing your chest about them.
Because the director of the game is telling the reader about the game's reboot in 2021.

Again, it's all included in the article that you shared which you are not so subtly distancing yourself from.
Patel's excuses in 2025 after game launched vs Jez in October 2021 after game rebooted from internal sources.
Do you read the links you post yourself? Honest question.

Jez's article says "Sources familiar with internal plans" told him this, he does not say anywhere that the devs told him that.
All of Jez's sources are from Microsoft. Why do they keep telling him its like Skyrim?
Because there's no accounting for websites wanting a snazzy SEO friendly title?

If you follow these website for "skyrim likes", you can include Kingdom Come Deliverance, Witcher 3, Dragon's Dogma 2 as on your list as well.
There was a general sentiment of those who got a hands on Avowed in 2024 that it was Skyrim like. You can't hide that.
Not sure what that has to do with me praising Outer Worlds' CCU but ..

Why is Outer Worlds 2 getting beaten by single player games from another platform that are not day 1 releases? Also Outer Worlds 1 which first launched in Epic.

Is it really a success?

Yeah I'm done replying to that guy, he just doesn't know when to realize he's wrong and stay quiet, lol.

🤷

I know I'm not one of those posters whose word you take but I can assure you there's little to none of that modern audience writing that you might think the game has. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

The intro cutscene (linked below) is probably the cheesiest thing in the game and this is presented as an 'earth show' that the MC and some other characters used to watch as space rangers. Nothing from this intro is even a part of the main game.

There's multiple converts from this thread who are singing praises for the game in the OT. I can't wait to see you there soon my man.

So far it's way better than I expected and certainly better than the first one. I don't entirely understand the woke word tbh, is it strictly LBTQ? Then it's somewhat woke. I've read a computer log about an assumed lesbian relationship. Is not being white woke? Then it is woke. Is a powerful woman woke? Then it is woke.

But my take at the moment is that it's good, witty, ironic, and downright comical writing. Some cringe dialogue certainly exist but I often play with a smile on my face from some absurd conversation choices. It's fun!

There are also some pretty faces in there - always a plus!

And the weakness mechanic is often brilliant, absolutely love that. Like how you trigger Sungazer from looking too much at the often pretty sky. And trigger Easily Distracted from, well, playing unfocused like me lol

I fully understand not jumping in if you have to pay full price for it though. The marketing hasn't sold the game well. I almost skipped it, thought it looked bad. I mostly jumped in because it popped up on Gamepass and I thought - yeah okay why not?

Well, the game is even added to the battle.net client, so I can play it using my remaining game pass subscription on Linux and it works well. Even fsr4 is available on my rx700xt

I really like these kind of ridiculous sci-fi setting RPG games.

For me it's the tone that just hits right. It's essentially - "Why so serious? - The Game". I'm sure the character traits affect it all but I have almost always an awkwardly aggro or humorous kinda douchbag choice in conversations lol
I really like it so far. But I'm only 10h in so we'll see if it holds up.

So you don't have any answer?

Play a good game.

Just curious, have you played it?

Personally not a ms fan, but it seems quite a lot of people are liking it.

Plus not every game is for everyone. A lot of people don't like spiderman 2 over here but I personally thought it was great( same with God of war Ragnarok, I think it's a masterpiece but a lot of people disagree).

Yes I have played it. Obsidian has not been able to make a game like that since then.

But I don't recommend playing it in console. Most Bethesda games are in GOG.

Can I ask what you didn't like about the game( if possible, forget about them having made new vegas previously( I doubt most people involved in that's game development are even there at obsidian anymore).

Mod support is not as good as Skyrim. The main story is not that good(I think Witcher 2 main story was really good) like the side quests.

Besides mod support( alot of games nowdays are bit iffy on it, I remember ff7 rebirth having issues with mods), isn't story a bit subjective?

Although I get you, we all have our own personal pet peeves. My personal peeve in games is when enemies don't react to you shooting or damaging them( also environment not reacting to you).

I doubt any other game will ever have mod support as good as Skyrim.
It's 100% up to the developer and their desire to provide working tools for the modding community. The better and more accessible the tools, the better and more robust the mod support. It's just that often developers themselves aren't particularly interested in mods and don't create a good ecosystem for their creation, which results in a game with a very limited modding experience.

You can tell between the cringe over the top marketing since its announcement, the over exposure before release and the original, $80 internal pricing - that everyone there expected this game to be bigger and better than it was.

This was THE main project coming out from them after 6 years.

Fair to say now that Obsidian can only create middling IP.

Was pleasantly surprised for the first few hours, but I'm struggling to stay engaged. Something about the Obsidian formula, its better than Avowed but they don't do a great job of getting the scale right. POI's feel too close together for credibility or something.

The role playing seems ok, but I would have to play more to see how it develops.

Im about to finish the second planet - does it get more spacey? I want to be wowed with an city thats just otherworldly and so far i haven't got that vibe.

That marketplace intially was ok but its just small.

I misjudged, the game is definitely not doing alright.

Dragon Age Veilguard is considered a bomba and even it had 20K players after a month of its launch with a decline.

TOW2 didn't even reached that. Thank you science for delivering bad scores to annoying products.

I genuinely think the main quest in Fallout New Vegas was not as good as the side quests. Witcher 2 and Dragons Dogma had an amazing main quest storyline (including the main quest storyline in Dark Arisen expansion).

I wish New Vegas mod support was atleast as good as Fallout 4.

Fallout New Vegas is literally getting DLC-sized, fully voiced, professionally made expansions. The entirety of Fallout 3 has been ported to its upgraded engine. There are endless mods. Too many for one person to even check out. What are you even complaining about?

It seems to be climbing the psn charts since launch. I thought it would drop off like most do, positive WOM kicking in?

There is tons of DA series fans, myself included, lets not forget DA:I sold 12m copies, and DA:V wasnt on any subscription service day1.
Saying all that DA:V needed way more sales and way higher ccu peak vs 60k it got, for OW2 60k ccu peak would probably be decent enough to break even, and 100k+ would be considered major success.

TLDR: Both of those woke slop rpgs underpefromed hard, and were given brownie points for wokeness by prof journo sellout reviewers, gaming audience fortunately over time got immunity to that- hence terrible sales of both of those games ;)
