PREDATOR: BADLANDS Trailer (2025)

Great is a stretch.......better than the previous entries since predator 2........maybe

If you get served a shit sandwich over and over, then 1 day the shit sandwich has some sugar on top, sure it tastes a bit better, but its still a shit sandwich

Good thing then that we're not talking about a shit sandwich, we're talking about two pretty good movies in Prey and Killer of Killers (y)

Got my tickets for tomorrow. If it sucks I'm egging adamsapple adamsapple 's crib.

I'm seeing it over the weekend. Hoping they finally let a predator live through a film for once.

They went too cutesy/cliche with a good bit of the dialogue.

It's also a bit too tepid in terms of violence and grit. You don't taste the sweat like you do in the first two films.

Other than that, it's a pretty good ride. Enjoyed it more than any recent Marvel movie, for comparison sake. Pretty much on par with Prey for me. Doesn't compete with the first film but definitely one of the better Predator movies and a good amount to enjoy.

I liked this. I haven't seen those other recent Predator films so I can't compare it to those. Going into it I wasn't a big fan of the design of the Predator in this but it makes sense within the story.

I kinda wish they'd had the synth character just speak the Yautja language but I guess the studio felt it's an easier sell to not just have the vast majority of the film be subtitled.

It's fun seeing the Predator navigate the different threats on the planet and I liked how he then later adapted those into tools and weapons for the endgame.

Taking the boy to imax tomorrow....so that pg-13 rating is paying off for them.
Hope you both enjoy it! It probably could have been more violent but I didn't feel like it was totally lacking it and still has some fun violent spectacle. I guess the alien planet aspect means things can get sliced up without it freaking out the censors.

:goog_unsure:

If lots of kids went to see it without a parent or guardian then yeah it could pay off... 👀

Or are you telling you're not an adult yourself either. :messenger_face_screaming:
More like with a pg-13 rating it's less likely that the reason the predator carries elle fanning on it's back is because he crushed her pelvis first.

Predator 2 was probably the only really hard-R film in the series, even the OG was kinda tame by modern standards. My kid can deal with most cartoonish violent things other than alien facehuggers, he nopes out at that point (and Gremlins, for some bizarre reason) but probably best to avoid super intense scenes of torture, decapitation, or assault.

I recall the 80's films I was exposed to, even supposed pg/pg-13 ones, would have nudity or fairly intense emotional scenes. Not to mention the cartoony gore and violence of that era or kids in significant peril. Rare to see that stuff these days but they have really amped up the volume of violence to compensate (IMHO).

she's a robot, plenty of robots get destroyed in the movie; if they were humans the rating would be higher, but also she'd be a corpse so no reason to carry her around in that scenario.

I suspect you are not getting the reference

by "crush her pelvis" it means he raped (or graped, as the kids would say these days apparently) her first, something you might see in a rated R flick and most def WOULD see in a 70's/80's hard R horror flick featuring a murderous alien snatching a young woman, artificial or otherwise, and then carrying her around for the rest of the film.

Predator has never been like that, and what you're suggesting is fairly rare even for other R-rated films, the majority of those being shlocky c-movie trash nobody knows outside cult followings, that so that's weird place to go; also she doesn't even have a pelvis which makes your reference even weirder.

Eh, you need to watch more r rated horror films with monsters/aliens in them. The number of them that have aliens sexing up women is LEGION.

But you are correct, the Predator franchise, aside from 2 for a bit, has never really been R rated or even that intense of an experience outside of a little violence. Its r rated for language mostly.

But in canon is it a known thing that Weyland androids are not anatomically correct? I feel like this would be something brought up in Alien 4, or maybe Prometheus. Given the role of androids in those films it makes little sense for them to be anything other than ken/barbie dolls down there. But Alien:Earth I feel will open the possibility of physical robo-love at some point and eventually it will be a plot point.

That's quite a demeaning description that implies it's poor by default, which I don't agree with.

Regarding something specific which haven't seen many people talk about, Prey had a superb soundtrack from Sarah Schachner, she also works on this, but Benjamin Wallfisch (Killer Of Killers) really comes into his own.

My dad and I both liked it. We have already had 3 sequels that try to copy the first movie's formula to varying degrees of success, so it was nice to have something totally different.

My showing was packed too, guess the pg13 helped afterall.

Predator 1 is pretty violent, he rips out spines and skin them. The second film is extremely brutal, but the first is not nice either.

The first two had some dark slasher gore stuff going on that they never managed to replicate later on in the same way.

I watched it earlier, it feels like an anime but as live action. Much better than I expected it to be but not the story I'd have done.

There's a reason the predator looks like it does so once I saw that I was able to accept the whole thing.

I've just organised a play list of all the movies that have the predator in on my plex server so after I get finished re-watching stranger things I will watch them in release order as in mu opinion that's always the best way.

I heard this movie is Predator but for girls? Chat, is this true?

The original Predator subverts machoism of the 1980's by having the hero's killed off as females would be in a slasher movie. The beef-cakes are made to be demonstrably powerless.

This movie is thematically different but also similar, primarily about acceptance and self-respect. It opens with machoism, perceived weakness but ends with the hero of the story achieving it his own terms as opposed to social expectations and perceived worth through realized clariity.

i.e. the trophy isn't what you think it is, your freinds aren't who you think they are

It also subverts expectations in its own way while maintaining the warrior ethos as the original did.

Not even gonna bother watching Critical Stinkers slop, man's an idiot.

Nah, he's just very predictable and one-note. I find his shtick insufferable.
I think the Critical Drinker is fair in his takes. He's often positive and not always, well, critical. If you can't stand someone having differing opinions from yours then I understand if he gets on your nerves.

I liked it, good action movie and the different take was a welcome change. But as with every predator except for the first one, it had more potential. It should have taken itself more seriously and go hard, with an R rating. Still was entertaining and engaging throughout

It's not about differences in opinion. It's about mundane repetitive content that writes itself. It was sorta novel 5+ years ago but that genre has been done to death. There's nothing interesting about it anymore.

It would be Disney to feminize the predator. Now with daddy issues.

Heard it ended up working at an intergalactic strip club and selling Only Xens scripts as a side hustle.

A predator with feelings... You've got to be kidding me.

They're supposed to be skilled warriors, technologically advanced, dexterous, bloodthirsty, and intelligent—the most feared beings in the Alien universe.

This was pretty fucking good, the boy LOVED it. I got critiques, as I always do, but I grok the film well enough to put them aside and just enjoy. Elle Fanning is surprisingly thick in the ass, no lie. I gotta call out the SUPERB cinematography for some of the big boss battles. They really worked hard to keep depth of field, practical camera movement, and sense of scale. They rarely looked cartoony like most big CGI scenes (other parts looked kinda bad but not those big fights). Lots a lens flare in there as well. Soundtrack kicks, that digeridoo type sound was very cool. Didn't pick out the classic predator theme though, but it must have been in there somewhere, right?

The movie opens with his father trying to murder him, murdering his brother and ends with him (like Arnold) using make-shift weapons having mastered the topology, followed by him defeating his father by nullifying his cloaking shield.

So yea.

How human of them.

Damn, I was ready to toss this movie onto the pile of modern audience slop, but then I came across your post. Looks like I'll be checking it out after all.

Grab a beer, sit next to your offspring (if appropriate), DO NOT compare it to the OG, and just be entertained. It has enough emotional heft and visual pizazz that I was never bored and could overlook the flaws. The weird CG pred mouths and monotonous language (which always felt recited, like folks trying to hammer out a native american language they don't really speak) faded into the background after 10 minutes or so. The Commando style armament scene, the leatherface reference, Elles great dualistic performance, the cute bits of humor, it all somehow works.

Put me in charge of directing and I'd make a much better movie. I have basic knowledge, but I understand the essence of the universes.

And I'd listen to the fans to make a good movie.

I thought this was a superb movie in almost every aspect, the only thing I didn't like was the injected humor, preferred to more serous tone of Prey.

Other than that, practically every aspect is top notch, when go to see a big blockbuster sci-fi movie worth dropping money for, this would be something point at.

Each to their own though. If didn't like it, fair does.

Yes! It's predictable, trite, low effort. He doesn't bring an interesting perspective anymore, every review is a retread of the same points, soundbites and clips. Slop.

Did he ever see the original? :messenger_winking_tongue:

I liked it. Expected meh, but it was enjoyable. I was already expecting some cringe and it delivered there too.

Yes, my son has seen Predator, Pred 2 (oops a few bits in there got me in trouble :P), and some of AvP (he nopes out with facehuggers) and Predators. So he's reasonably conversant with the character. He's sat through a LOT of Schwarzenegger films with me so he knows the standards :P

I honestly don't understand the comments urging not to compare it to the original and expect simple entertainment. Yeah I know it would be difficult to make something close to the original (in terms of plot and overall quality), but it's a different case when you bastardize the original IP just because you own it and you can.
