I'd say the market more or less did that for them based on current sales, and Microsoft raising the price twice this year basically had the effect of communicating 'we aren't trying to sell Series consoles anymore' without outright saying it.

With all due respect, we did not need official confirmation because of this stupid number... even if Nintendo and Sony team up and requested together 50 millions of chips, the numbers would not add up, let alone a company with NO leverage to guarantee that 50 millions of devices would be sold...

If I had to guess, these chips were ordered in that volume to get the best bulk pricing, to safeguard against the idea of them potentially becoming more expensive down the line given what we've seen in recent years, and they'll probably end up in various 'Xboxes', both their official product but maybe resold to partners for OEM systems. I wouldn't surprised if we end up with something like an Xbox Asus ROG PC in a few years, because there is no fucking way in hell their rumored $1200 hybrid sells even 25 million, let alone 50.
