It will be widespread since those motors have regular rumble, something akin to hd rumble and haptics. You can switch the those modes all you want.
It basically gets regular rumble input. So the Haptics on those motors will work from that.

Old info. Pushed to late November now but prices should stay the same.
Both Max and Pro should have them, the only difference are additional stick caps/thumbsticks, and 8 directional dpad in Max, Pro should have 4 directional dpad as far as I know but both should have 2 dpads even cheaper Pro, tension adjustable TMRs and Maglev motors.

I just randomly checked Time Extension this morning and they had this review and I had never heard of it before. Looks like it works on Xbox 360 and PC so for the people that REALLY love the Xbox 360 controller this might be a good replacement. I've never personally used any Retro Fighters products but it looks like it's got 1000hz polling rate and Hall effect sticks. Looks like it got announced back in April of this year.

I use it on PC. I don't have any other systems it needs to work with. No need for any alternatives at this point. My 8BitDo Ultimate 2 works just fine, but the more I use it the worse it feels ergonomically. Since this controller looks similar to the Xbox Series controllers which I do like the look and feel of, I figure this will work out as long as it doesn't have any connectivity issues or failure points like the Xbox controllers.

- I don't think there's a charging dock. I just use the USB-C charging port and keep it in the included case when I'm not using it
- Battery life is exceptional. Has to be in that Switch Pro Controller type range as it lasts forever
- It does support full button remapping through the Razer Synapse app
- Button remapping has been super easy in my experience
- Bumpers have been rock solid for me. Zero issues
Build quality wise this is the best controller I've ever put my hands on. No way to tell how well it'll hold up over the years, but I feel confident holding it in my hands.

So it will be tough to nail that one.
Maybe something which charges through USB-C, I had a dock like that once but for DualShock 4. It did charge it though and designwise it wasn't that far off of original pin chargers.

According to that, there is a version for the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro 8k PC controller. Whether or not it works, how it works, or how good it is, I don't know. If the controller doesn't support wireless charging, then that dock would have to be via USB-C. I might purchase that... but I might not. Either way, thanks for the response and letting me know about the lack of charging pins. It's not a dealbreaker, but the convenience of the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 to just throw it on the dock will be much-missed if I move to this controller.

tl;dr TMR sticks, 4 back buttons, non-clicky shoulder buttons, combined receiver & magnetic charger "puck", and a hand proximity/touch sensor on both the sticks and the rear for enable/disable gyro.
If this lives up to quality this might be the end game controller for me. I always loved the idea of Steam Controller but wanted refinements, and this might just provide them. I'm excited.

The puck acts as both the wireless adapter and magnetic charger for the controller.

The dock supposedly is part of the usb dongle used to connect the controller to the PC (can connect up to 4 controllers at once).
You can see it in this PCGamer video (which also confirms the sticks are TMR and it has Gyro as well!).. I have a feeling that this thing is gonna be scalper fuel.

since yesterday my 8bitdo Xbox Ultimate 3-Mode controller has a weird ass bug it seems.
every time I press view (back/select whatever you wanna call it) it triggers both a View input and an input of the share function.
so basically, if I press view it takes a screenshot... if I hold view it saves a video clip.
this started to happen spontaneously, as in MID GAMEPLAY.
I played Apex Legends, and everything worked fine. but suddenly I see I took a random screenshot. at first I thought I accidentally hit the share button in the heat of the moment. but then it happened again... and again...
and sure enough, the view button was the culprit.
every time I opened my map, I took a screenshot.
I tried updating the firmware (literally got a firmware update today lol) but that didn't fix it.
I tried deleting all my profiles... still nothing.
even fully unbinding the view button didn't fix it. after doing that it only worked as a share button
the share button also still works as a share button btw.

Easiest comparison with the gyro activation is the like newer Apple Pencil for the ipads, where you can do a secondary input by squeezing the pen, and it uses haptic vibrations to give you feedback like you're pressing something.
Valve shows a section on each side on the back of the controller, where squeezing with your middle/ring/pinkie finger will activate the gyro, so probably just have to hold or press to activate/deactivate. Their language does mention it can be used as an input, so I think you can do more than just gyro, like maybe squeezing one side activates a mic bind or gamepad button?
Honestly, the TMR sticks, better touchpads and haptic squeeze are the coolest additions that make it an insta-buy for me. Curious how well their haptics will also do rumble this time around, because it's kind of anemic in the original Steam Controller.

I can't pre-order quick enough when it's available.
The Steam Input community is going to go wild with these new options. I know I'm a big fan of subtle inputs and would use various bindings on the DS4 touchpad. To think what people like https://www.youtube.com/@RambleCan/ who already went deep into complex configs will now be able to do action layers using just touch opens up even more than the old SC.

Yeah, I absolutely am jumping in day one.
The coolest thing about a Steam Controller to me is just having versatility of inputs, the games that opens up that aren't great on other controllers, and the trackpads make any kind of situation where you're stuck on the desktop needing to navigate to something doable on the couch with a TV.
Biggest issue with the first controller got solved with the Steam Deck's more comfortable layout, and this does that without the screen + some extras.
Hoping Valve after the initial release period, will put these up for purchase on other stores, because not being on places like Amazon hurts their reach.

it happens in every game and outside of games. it first happened while playing Apex Legends. like I said, it worked normally, and from one moment to the next, suddenly my view button made screenshots every time I pressed it. a minute before that the view button worked completely normally.
I had to swap mid-match to my Razer Wolverine V3, and thankfully didn't get killed lol.
I have now rebound the star button to view, basically as a replacement, and that works thankfully.
but now I basically have 2 share buttons
I haven't found a way to factory reset the controller or something similar. I thought that could do the trick. maybe there's a button combo for that? if there is I can't find infos on it at least.
EDIT: I now tested it on PC. and yup... even on PC the View button takes screenshots. but only in Xbox mode. when I set it to bluetooth and connect it that way, it doesn't sent a share button input and works normally.

It's absolutely going to be under that.
People complaining about the hardware on the new Steam Machine not being strong enough, is because Valve is pricing that device firmly around consoles.
The controller will probably be around the price of the PS5/Xbox base pads, and if more probably like $10-15.

LOL, yeah. I want decent build quality too. The first Steam Controllers felt cheap. I guess I can't complain since I bought it for $5. But Deck was a solid device and I expect similar quality from the new controller.
I really do hope so but with a controller like this Valve is competing more with the fancy pro controllers than the basic ones. Then again there are lots of decent sub-$100 controllers like the 8BitDos and GameSirs.

the big issue on the Deck is the Dpad however. so I really hope they have a completely different mechanism for it in the Controller. diagonal inputs on the deck are pure agony.

Oh, there isn't any in manual but there should be one. I once bricked my Pro 2 controller by going backwards in firmware updates since I read some firmware had better polling rate or smth, lmao, which did brick it and I could do just that - factory reset it to wake up. And reinstall the firmware in manual option mode in 8Bitdo software by clicking the 3 lines in upper left corner and choose "manual installation" or smth like this.

Do that, reinstall the firmware (you should be able to reinstall it I think although I don't have it now and Xbox app was a bit different I think than regular 8Bitdo app). And tell us if it's fixed.

Ah, the horrors I went through to unbrick it, I didn't know about hidden manual option under 3 dots in upper left corner took a lot of googling to find this one... This option honestly shouldn't be so hidden, I felt dumb after discovering it.

I haven't had any issues with Gamesir so far.
Honestly, they had logistics shenanigans but I take that over shitty software imho.
And with G7 Pro launch I found out that I have official Gamesir retailers in my country, so every time they will launch something if I wait a bit, my retailers will have it and ordering from them is as smooth as it can get.

Count me 100% in for the steam controller. Ever since I got a steam deck I wanted to have its setup replicated across to my PC. The functionality of the touchpads is so hard to be without when I'm playing on a bigger screen.
