Controllers |OT| It's the Hall-Effect Life!

Gamesir is releasing an Iron Man-themed special edition of the Nova 2 Lite:

I'm happy with my 8BitDo Ultimate 2, and my Xbox Elite hasn't been used since I bought it.

The only issue I have is weight. I wish the 8BitDo had a bit more weight/heft to it.
That is one of the main attraction with the XBOX Elite 2 the weight.
If you're looking for weight then you should be looking at things like the ZD Excellence or the Apex 5. Those are the controllers that are trying to push in that direction of ultra-premium with lots of swappable parts.

What's the build quality of the Gamesir controllers like? I've been meaning to get the 8bitdo Pro 3 (Gamecube purple!) because I loved the Pro 2... but I also got the Pro 2 Xbox edition last year and it's pretty bad - d-pad feels shitty, buttons have too much resistance. It's like a different controller altogether. Not sure if I should consider switching teams.

I'm using these solely for PC gaming, in case that makes a difference.
I haven't had any problems with my Gamesir controllers at all. 8Bitdo on the contrary so far.

Although some can feel cheaper than the other for example Tegenaria Lite is considered to me to be in 2C tier.

Something like Cyclone 2 could be considered good value I saw them go as low maybe even below $40 without that really paticurial charger.

Those gamesir things look neat, never heard of them before but finally controllers with hall effect sticks that don't break the bank? Gamesir Nova Lite goes for like ~26 here.

Edit: O wait the standard Nova is the same price too, I guess there's a successor and stuff? Ah, dang, there are way too many models and variants around lol, need research...

There's even one with HD Rumble for the same price, Nova HD? If that stuff's even functional on PC of course... I'll probably go for one of these when my DS4 dies/goes bad.

Danny Dudekisser Danny Dudekisser Alexios Alexios Super Nova is pretty neat too, that one is full membrane, magnetic faceplate, switchable ABXY buttons, they sell separate faceplate colours on AliExpress.

I saw it go under $40 with a charger that's more compact than the one for Cyclone 2.

It has Switch Pro controller profile instead of Xbox style profile.

Proper weight, rubberised grips, PlayStation style bumpers and triggers along with thumbsticks. Anti-friction rings but no metal on thumbsticks.

Still I find it pretty smooth and nice performance to price ratio even if it has Hall Effects intead of TMRs.

Even dpad is decent, has more click and isn't as sticky as the one in Tegenaria Lite.

It's clicky but dead ass quiet, not clicky like Xbox Series controller.

How do people in this shiny new OT that is already 4 pages feel about the Steam Controller? I have one I haven't used in a while, 1 cheap one I got as a spare, and I'm really hoping to get one of the new ones ASAP when they launch. But I hope they're not as loud as the first model, that was my main gripe. But 2 sticks plus the advantages of the touchpads could be amazing and it has the potential to be my #1 controller.

To use classic Cherry switches as the measuring stick, I don't know why controllers insist on using blue switches rather than brown or red. My ideal would be red. personally. Moutput from pressing the button is the reaction in game, I don't need clacky buttons I'll use a controller tester if I think there's an issue.

BTW. BennyBlanco BennyBlanco and Astray Astray already know this but I recently tested my first controller with Capacitive Joysticks, so to speak the newest kid on the block in our opening post of OT.

Mobapad Huben 2, and while some things it did impressed me a lot, others were really lacking so to speak.

It has Omron switches like my Endgame OP1 8K mouse and I found the buttons, dpad and bumpers along with trigger stops to be one of the best currently on the market. Sound wise also.

HD Rumble probably only works with Nintendo games I wasn't able to make it work even under Linux with any PC games I own which was a bummer.

Triggers in normal analog mode have a looot of pretravel you have to press half of the triggers for it to start to pickup that you are pressing them in it was such a no-no for me. Apparently Mobapad has to redesign the triggers to get rid of this issues and it is not software issue...

Now onto the sticks themselves, they have pretty high strength, dunno if all Capacitive Joysticks will have the same kind of spring strength but I think they were harder to press in than Elite 2 sticks. They felt also kinda good and bad at the same time, thumbsticks had this metal slider thingie and controller had anti-friction rings but I felt like my Super Nova without the metal part on thumbsticks had like a smoother circular motion.

Dunno if that one is on Mobapad or K-Silver honestly since I suspect it used regular JL16 modules.

This was after the fact that I already confirmed their existence like at all because I only heard rumours about them eariler and we weren't sure at that time if we even should post something about them in OT.

I happened to stumble upon AMA with BettaCore, CEO of Gamesir and I happened to ask him the question and the dude actually answered. I heard he was hella active on socials so I took the shot.

This was even before they announced Tarantula Competitive Edition which will have a few versions and I'm still confused apparently it will do 4000Hz Polling Rate and it will have TMR sticks version, Capacitive sticks version and Analog sticks version.

He said then they are currently testing them internally to see if they are indeed better than TMR and as durable. They reached unstable 1000-2000Hz then but they thought they could do better and it all comes down to sensors since on stock ones they weren't much better than TMR sticks.

And apparently they did do something since they announced that Tarantula and it reaches 4000Hz now.

Gamesir tends to buy K-Silver modules then redesign them themselves, change springs and whatnot, tune them down, modify them for their needs so to speak..
So I'm curious if they did improve whatever was in that Huben 2...

Time will tell as I will probably get my hands on that Competitive Tarantula when it will be available. Probably on Capacitive version because I am really curious of that one, and their modifications.

Although when I think about it, the G7 Pro is Xbox licensed and it has 1000Hz but impulse triggers only work in 250 and 500Hz mode, they turn off at 1000Hz and upcoming Tarantula Xbox will have 1000Hz, so maybe something has changed with Xbox licensing.
I was watching some youtube videos on the G7 Pro (this thread has sent me down a rabbit hole, lol), and it seems like Xbox does indeed have a software limitation to 250Hz polling rate on the console. So the controller will set itself down to that on Xbox, the 500Hz option exists if you want to use the impulse trigger vibration, and 1000hz just gives you basic vibration I think on the G7 Pro.

I'm still leaning towards Black Friday just picking up the 8Bitdo Ultimate 2 (Wuchang red one looks great), and the GameSir G7 Pro (shadow ember one looks nice). I have a feeling the G7 Pro is probably going to win out for me, but it's hard to tell feel watching videos of other people using them.

There is G7 Pro Wuchang Edition and it looks sick.

But I feel like either I'm not as used to it or the sticks themselves are weird with initial movement. I mean it is smooth feeling wise like, like one of the best I layed my thumb on but during gameplay not so much.

I mean you can order one online and return it if you won't like it.

But I wouldn't be surprised if Cyclone 3 will have better linearity during gameplay. And I will sell my G7 Pro, lmao.

EDIT: I just grabbed my Super Nova to play Tormented Souls 2 as I was writing about it and well yeah it had a bit of deadzone so initial movement of the stick feeling wise was a bit worse but during gameplay, it felt more linear despite higher latency.

It does look really good, but it's a bit more expensive, and my money is going to be stretched during Black Friday because my big purchases are components for my own DIY NAS. Prices for hard drives looks like they're going to be more expensive this year even with sales.

Red is also my favorite color, so the black to red translucency appeals to me on the G7 anyway.

I was looking initially at the 8BitDo Pro 3 because I thought the form factor would be cool for retro games, and I liked the gamecube purple color too. Only thing is reviews I watched on youtube consistently knocked the d-pad as not great for stuff like contra or fighting games, which killed my interest. Seems like the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 had a better d-pad by comparison.

I think the GameSir Tarantula Pro would be the equivalent controller from them to the 8BitDo Pro 3 in form factor, and seems like it has a better quality d-pad from what reviews I saw.

Better to see data on gamepadla.com first since apparently it had and still has latency problems.

And since Tarantula Competitive and Xbox is around the corner they discontinued Pro already and it isn't receiving any new software updates.

They basically pulled an AMD on us with this one. Glad I didn't buy it, lmao.

There's a reason BettaCore has said in a lot of interviews that he thinks they could improve Tarantula in the next iteration, before they announced new Tatantulas.

Honestly, so far I only want to test new Tarantula, TT Pro and this new brand LeadJoy which Gamesir tried to buy in the past with the original head of Mojhon.

Ah, didn't know the age of it, or the latency issues.

The Tarantula Competitive one looks cool if they're going to do their own 4000hz one, and hopefully the latency improves. I dig the orange color on it over the black of the Tarantula Pro.

That's why we made this OT =>.

Oh, I forgot I want to test Cyclone 3 too, lmao.

Check the LeadJoy info and photos shared by GadgetHyper, I've added the link in my previous post.

Dual gyro will be the first in the industry along with Capacitive Joysticks, which hopefully will be better than the ones in Huben 2, lmao.
