Looking really good overall. I missed this kind of game. After it felt like we barely knew a thing about it, the trailer almost shows too much (seeing presumably more-or-less every main area), but it did get me ready for the game.

My only trepidation is the additional NPCs. I hope they don't detract from that classic isolation feel.

It looks ok.

I'm obviously going to buy it. I do worry that it might be a bit of a relic. It looks like a remaster of a game from 2003. Quite empty.

That corporate shill needs to stfu, I'm trying to listen to Yamamoto's (or whoever's) OST

Anyway, NPC allies and friendly banter make it a no-go, this is not for me

Id take literally any game from 2003 over the liquid soulless dogshit being pumped out now.

Looks great, I loved Prime Remastered on the Switch. Is playing 2 or 3 a must?

This game is going to be very, VERY good. Wow that shit looks great. I'm super hyped and think this game is gonna be better than anyone expects!

All this hemming and hawing, mealy mouthed rubbing of hands. No. It's gonna take.

I hope the federation parts are a bait and switch, and every one of those characters dies within the first few hours. Then you're just truly alone on the planet.

Make it grim, Retro.

Okay, IGN's preview actually makes me far more worried about this than anything seen thus far: https://www.ign.com/articles/metroid-prime-4-beyond-the-final-preview

Never thought I'd see Marvel humor in Metroid...
Oh shit this is bad.

Please Retro. Please don't fuck this up. PLEASE.

Someone at the studio must have known this was a horrible idea. The only way this works is if that Jar Jar Binks motherfucker dies in the first few hours.

But it doesn't look like it. In fact, it looks like you'll be reaching a federation soldier in maybe each new section.

Please say it ain't so, Retro.

I could feel my heart drop when I got to the part of the article where after leaving him, his voice came in through Samus's radio or whatever. Really hope they aren't going all-in with this like it seems.

But now, it's finally time to get to know specialist Myles MacKenzie, who introduced himself with this honestly cringey monologue (and if you don't believe me, watch it in the video version of this preview at the top of the page):

"Oh wow! Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow. What a mess. You're alone, on a planet, with no hope of survival. But, you're also not sitting next to Phil anymore in that cubicle… So… Win?"

"If it's OK with you, I'm gonna tag along. So, where to? It might be a good idea to check the map and get our bearings."

"It's about to get reeeeal nerdy in here!"

"Missiles are effective against a creature with a hard shell, you know."

"Samus, there's something interesting over there. Are you sure we don't need to use that?"

"Can you read that? Does that say anything about this place? They really don't want anyone in here. Must be a sacred space."

"I can see the door, Samus! Let's get out of here."
not like this GIF

Even if you're Rodney Dangerfield, if you're in a Metroid game, shut the fuck up. It's neither the time nor the place.

Unfunny, quippy, walking tutorial/puzzle solver/yellow paint indicator in METROID

Yep, this dude is about to become the most disliked character in gaming history. Thanks Jaffe, you bellend.

oof

I have no qualm with Samus interacting with other humans or aliens. She was a soldier for the Galactic Federation and still works for the Federation as a mercenary/PMC maintaining strong ties. To our knowledge the Federation is the only group she takes contracts from.

UNPOPULAR OPINION: I'm actually for a limited use of NPC in Metroid. I found it pretty unrealistic in MP1 and 2 that she encounters literally not a single living being, nor does she try to contact one. Without anyone else, the world felt a bit artificial, static, dead.
MP3 hit a sweet spot for me, with most NPCs being delegated to the opening and ending, with lots of solitude in the middle - but you felt your adventure was a part of a bigger universe.

I will decide whether MP4 goes overboard with it, one badly written character might not be the end of the world. From what I take from the OW trailer, there will be more of them, so I suppose McKenzie doesn't stick with us for long. He is not THE sidekick, just a temporary companion out of a few.

Good lord, that dialogue. Suddenly, the motorbike shit doesn't seem so bad.

Hopefully, that kind of stupid shit is kept to a minimum. Because the game overall looks great. But, I don't need some fucking clown barking stupid quips and obvious suggestions. Keep that shit out of the game.

Looks ok, but not enough to force me to buy a switch 2 at full price yet.

Shooting still look atrocious like the past videos.

Graphic is a bit better than expected given the sw1 roots.

Keyword, context, what was the reason for there not being any living npc in 1 & 2? Also, why the fuck would Samus need to contact anyone? She's Samus. She gets shit done.

As I know gamedev (trust me, I work in it) and Nintendo (from what they themselves say), the story was written around not having NPCs (a design/production/budget decision), and not the other way round.

Looks like a worthy sequel, welcome back Prime. 3 was great, a human element always enhances stories and scenes and the world being seamless with manually traveling between the different areas rather than teleporting or having a cut scene with the ship is good, it's not Assassin's Creed lmao🤦‍♂️
