Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, overview trailer (Switch 2)

As I know gamedev (trust me, I work in it) and Nintendo (from what they themselves say), the story was written around not having NPCs (a design/production/budget decision), and not the other way round.
Sure of course, but if we want to talk "realism" Why would there be npc in the context of the story they wrote?

As much as I love the Metroid franchise Im just not feeling any hype for this entry. So far, to me, it looks more like a shooter and not enough like a Metroid game. Hope I am wrong.

I think Dread handled it quite well. MP1 could possibly have someone alive on the station or the last remaining Chozo descedants in a secluded arena. Echoes started pretty horrorish, with Federation corpses everywhere and even a jumpscare or two, but quickly abandoned it.

It's a shame how under the radar this is going to go. It'll get really good reviews and people will love it, but it'll be forgotten in terms of awards and such because of how late it's releasing. I've been waiting for this game for so long, and there just doesn't feel like there's nearly enough buzz for what's going to be an amazing game.

"Wow! THE famous galactic bounty hunter Samus Aran!? Me n' the rest of the crew have always admired the way you use the Left Joystick to move about and interact with the environment! Can you show me how it's done, just once! Please?!"

Samus driving a motorcycle through a large, empty environment and chatting it up with comic relief NPC's who solve puzzles for you. Yep, that's what people want out of Metroid.
I completely understand both of these concerns/complaints. Open world design has become so prevalent it feels generic and like some sort of obligation and I totally get the dissatisfaction of its application here. At least they didn't pull a BOTW and completely throw out traditional Metroid Prime gameplay though. I'd kill for a traditional 3D Zelda that relegated the open world stuff to just the field and not the dungeons.

On the heavier focus of NPC interaction; Metroid Prime 3 already took a step toward the direction of trying to flesh out the world of these games with using federation soldiers as NPCs. I would say since Metroid Fusion both the mainline Metroid and Prime sub-series have tried to figure out if Metroid should continue being hyper isolated experiences with no NPC interaction or if attempts should be made to develop the universe these games are set in. I see Prime 4's inclusion of federation soldiers as a natural evolution of how federation soldiers were used in Prime 3 and while I understand Metroid games are about isolation, federation soldiers have been in these games since Fusion. I'm not holding it against Retro for wanting to do something with them.

That's exactly what it should look like given it is at its core a Switch game. Halo 4 running on the Xbox One is a perfect comparison.
That's exactly the comparison that came to mind. I was immediately reminded of Halo 4. However look at the post I quoted:
If these are the visuals we can expect for Switch 2 games looking forward, I won't be complaining.
If that's was the baseline for the Switch 2, it would be indeed horrible. However we've already seen with Starwars Outlaws and Cyberpunk 2077 that we can expect more from the switch 2.

Alexios Alexios Cry more :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Go to Youtube this morning, watch the overview trailer, think to myself, "that looks pretty damn good, still not completely sold on the motorcycle stuff, though."

Check twitter and gaf and damn near everyone is panicking over the side characters, IGN posts a video about A FATAL FLAW!!!!

Hopefully there isn't too much chatty-ness, but the way people are talking about it you would think we were talking about Borderlands 3. MP3 sandwiched most of that stuff in the start and ending sections of the game and there wasn't that much other than that, hopefully MP4 is similar.

Expect the jump between Xenoblade 3 and the next mainline Xenoblade to show what a Nintendo developer can do with the extra power. Just don't be disappointed that it's 30fps.

I've always appreciated NPC's and voice acting in Metroid. However, this does not sound encouraging. I hope this Myles guy is more like an extended tutorial NPC and it doesn't go overboard later on.

Still getting it. So long as a game feels good I'll play any story.

I Hope they don't do like in Pikmin4 and focus too much in onboarding new players to the IP, instead of doubling down on what makes the games unique...
Pikmin 4 was a good game but all those NPCs really detracted. So much lame "quirky" dialogue that felt like New Horizons. The Treehouse's writing hasn't really been great for a while.

It is a 3D adventure where you gain new abilities and unlock new parts of the map (like Hollowknight). But it has more more puzzle solving and no Souls influence.
Like Hollow Knight? You mean like Super Metroid? And Castlevania: Symphony of the Night? Both of which don't have (or need) any Souls influence...

The talkative scared nerd represents us teaming up with Samus. Or you would do some stupid shit trying to impress her, and get your ass killed.

so Kirby Air Riders gets two directs and overview trailer meanwhile Prime 4 only gets an overview trailer and there's no sign of Prime 2 and 3 remastered f you big n/
This is because Sakurat does whatever he wants, otherwise he wont do another Smash for Nintendo. It's a foregone conclusion at this point.

Hope it supports an USB mouse.

The buttons on the controller keep working when used as a mouse, and it starts working immediately when you start sliding it so you can switch between comfort or precision on the fly, so it seems dubious. It might require all the buttons on the right joycon all the time.

yeah I'll wait for reviews on this one.
besides I still need to play Prime 1 remaster before I decide if I this type of game to begin with.

doing that was the biggest mistake of the franchise, IMO

Other M bothers me much less because that was contained in a spin-off with a unique tone... it was fun, and uh the zero suit was looking better than ever thanks to Team Ninja, so right from the start we set a different expectation for what that game was about.

In other words: I don't mind exploring other tones and styles for the series, but they should be kept in separate spinoff games. Let's have Metroid Pinball and Other M and all the rest, but keep Prime ultra focused on the isolation that was always its calling card.

The Prime games are spinoff games. Has Sakamoto ever once acknowledged them and included them in his timeline?

An NPC in the tutorial specifically designed to be hated and people falling in the trap is lovely 🤣. Can't wait to play this game. Also, is amazing that the IGN guy fall that easy…

Other M was the next big 100% main game and far inferior to Prime 3 (and almost every other Metroid), which had plenty isolation past the intro just like this game will after the 5 minutes of interactions with each of the handful of extra characters in the span of 15-25 hours, concern trolls are funny.

Some devs really need to understand that goofy cartoony characters in a serious game feels waaaaaay too off, Final Fantasy 16 had funny moments within the game's tone and it was great (Clive meeting his uncle for first time, and even some uncle's moments)
