The Total War 25th Anniverary showcase is this Wednesday: https://www.youtube.com/totalwar

This is their quote "25 years of Total War have led to this moment, but this is just the beginning" - They better not dissapoint.

Here's hoping for Medieval 3.

Still my fav TW trailer:

The last few TW games have been a let down for me, i really hope they go back to their historical routes.

What are you looking forward to?

Shogun 3 surprise release to celebrate their first Total War and it not sucking like everything they have made in the last ten years.

Would be interested in a star wars game as well. WW2 is already covered with gates of hell osfront.
I dunno about Star Wars... but I think the nature of the battles of WW2 doesn't lend itself well to the Total War gameplay. I think WW1 is the highest I would go.

I wouldn't even go WW1, i can't see it being that fun charging your infantry/cavelry to be minced by artillery over and over again.

All the games play more or less the same, SW, Warhammer, French Revolution - its just another skin in the end.
The formula for me is old and tired.
In 2004, when I played Rome Total War I was blown away by the scales of the battles and thought holy shit, imagine in 10-20 years how this shit will look like? Guess what, its more or less the same stuff.

I agree. Warhammer 2 & 3 broke me in that regard. I never bothered buying Warhammer 3 because I was just bored with Total War at that point (and I also hate the aggressive, Paradox-like DLC policies they went for). And I also never bothered with the smaller "Total War Saga" games. So whatever the setting may end up being for the next game, I am more interested in what they gonna do to shake things up a bit.

I just want a historical entry that's not single country only oriented.
I'm really curious to see how that WW1 experimentation of theirs that was leaked a while ago looks. The mod for Napoleon while a bit dumb is also super fun, watching artillery spam and infantry waves getting blown to pieces is amazing. I honestly believe that the one studio that could pull this off in a more immersive manner and make it fun would be CA.
If not WW1 then a Medieval 3 is more than warranted by now.

WH40K would also be cool but I really want another fully fledged historical entry first.

Been playing these from the start. Played all the historical ones except Pharoah. I tried one of the Warhammers but didn't enjoy it much.

There are plenty of settings I'd be interested in, but I think they need to focus on getting more character and flavour in there. Three Kingdoms was pretty good in that regard.

I would love to see next Medieval or Empires game. I suspect that's not going to happen and we will be disappointed again.

Eh, I would rather they focused more on strategy aspects vs going CK3 route. It's good to have some character backgrounds, but too much takes all the focus.

There are only 3 correct answers. Medieval 3, Warhammer 40k or Empire 2 (1700 or 1800s, the latter shown to be more than viable with Fall of the Samurai)... A new engine would be great too please.

Shogun 3 surprise release to celebrate their first Total War and it not sucking like everything they have made in the last ten years.
The shogun games are a double edged sword for me. Shogun2 was amazing gameplay wise.

But Japan sucks ass for a grand campaign map. It's too small and narrow no matter how many regions you add.

Historical total war games medieval has the best grand campaign map.

I have so many hours on Medieval 2 and Shogun 2 it's not even funny, yet we keep getting Warhammer which I could not care less for. Maybe time for a return to form?

Agreed.

While the thought of Samurais etc are appealing, the map of Japan as a Total War game is far too small and really not fun.

Shogun 2 i did enjoy but got bored quick, Three Kingdoms i really didnt like.

Empire was obvs the GOAT Map, but Europe, Africa and the middle east are where the next Total War game should be set.

Loved Empire - Napoleon was way too hard and I have struggled to get into the Saxon one.

A new Empire would be grand and get rid of the bitter taste of Civ 7

My bet?
Go total bonkers and do an Empire 3 with the entire world map from 1700/1800, so they can go crazy on DLC's.

What I would like:
"Shogun" 3 East Asia from the Late Edo era (Fall of Samurai) until early 20 century Meiji era. But with a map including parts of China, Korea and Russia as Japan fought against these 3 in this time frame. It could solve the narrow map problem.

I believe the expansion of the first Shogun included Korea in the game already.

What are the rumors saying? I really wanted another Total War in a fantasy universe, but not Warhammer. Something like Lord of the Rings would be epic and there's already that fan-made mod that's one of the most popular in the whole franchise.

Didn't they say that they specifically want to talk about the future of Total War? Sounds to me like a new game announcement.

DLCs would also qualify as future and with how DLC happy theyve been in the past i am keeping my expectations on the floor.

Doesnt mean it wont have new games, but best to not get hopes up in order to avoid disappointment.

The Pharaoh games are very recent, so it feels too soon to have any footage, not to mention announcing a new game right before TGA would be weird, but i personally hope the Hyenas disaster, TWW3 controversies and Pharaoh seemingly not doing so well has all together made them panic enough to finally make Medieval 3 or at least a Middle-Earth/Westeros game, its what the people want the most.

Iirc there were a few leaks, nothing confirmed so far but they talked about a historical game set in WW1 which was supposedly facing hardships due to CA having to create a "new engine" for it. Then they also talked about a game set in the Star Wars universe and another one in the WH40K universe.
The Star Wars one has been mentioned by more than one leaker so that one seems like the most likely so far but we'll see.

WW1 would be neat! And if they have to make a new engine, even better!

I really wished I had the time to play WH3 Immortal Empires but at the end of my day of work, I don't want to be in front of a monitor anymore.. My next wish is that TW will be somewhat playable with the Steam Controller.

Agreed, if done well a Total War game spanning from the 1800s to the early 1900s while also depicting the changes in warfare throughout that century could be one of the best strategy games of this gen. And I do believe CA could pull it off, but I don't know, apart from WH1 I don't really think they've been at their best for a long long time now.
But I'm hoping they'll bounce back.

You sound like one of those Paradox map sickos.

There are many example of how to do a great real time tactics game for WW2, even from before Total War started. Not saying CA would find it easy. Easier to just make a game with an invincible general that rolls over whole armies.

Looking forward to their announcement. I enjoyed the warhammer series, specially 3 with the integrated campaign map but I'm ready for the next thing.
