Carmageddon: Rogue Shift Announced for PS5, PC, Switch 2 & Xbox Series

I have to say this shit looks fantastic.

Roguelite racing action game Carmageddon: Rogue Shift will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store in early 2026, developer 34BigThings announced.
The legendary Carmageddon engine roars back to life, reimagined for a new era of vehicular combat.

Carmageddon smashes back with brutal roguelite vehicular‑combat mayhem. Adapt, upgrade, and unleash destruction on post‑apocalyptic zombie hordes. The legacy lives on, reinvented and unforgiving.
Every Campaign run offers a unique journey through a randomly generated graph.

Win Events and smash opponents to gain Credits. Maneuvers such as killing Wasteds, drifts, jumps, and flicks also grant rewards.

Strategically plan your route so you can reach Shops. In these safe havens you can repair your car, swap weapons, or install one of the 80+ unlockable perks.

Adapt to the dynamically increasing difficulty and conquer elite events and bosses.

With branching paths, varied objectives, and ever-changing time-of-day and weather conditions, no two runs are the same.

But the Carmageddon ain't over when your vehicle is wrecked. Another driver will step up, and the challenge will resume anew, in a typical roguelite loop. Earn Beatcoins to unlock permanent bonuses and new content between runs in the Black Market. Find synergies between these elements to create the ultimate killing machine: the Carmageddon never ends.

Honestly, if it's still open world, that'd be awesome. But it's also looking like a Burnout 3 game (which is great, but missed the mark for Carmageddon).

It feels pretty generic, and tonally... it's just off. The thing with Carmageddon was, it felt like you were playing something kinda naughty that you didn't want the grown-ups to catch you playing. This is just kinda... a racing game with zombies and junk.

That would be cool, but I can't help but assume that they're just following the OG approach.

Seriously ... zombies???? :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:
Maybe there will be humans AND zombies? Or maybe not and they just did it to avoid censor issues? Not sure. I don't keep up with rating restrictions in other countries, but man, 2 had some really interesting censorship, lol.

Why make it then? The whole point of the game was killing humans with your car in the most brutal way possible.
I hate current timeline were no one should be offended :messenger_crying:
In previous games only specific versions were censored so you could avoid it.

Please be good. A roguelike vehicular combat racing game might be cool. Sucks about the zombies but I guess it wouldn't work with realistic looking humans.

But zombies??? I wanna run over women and children. Correct me if Im wrong but I dont remember Carmageddon ever having vehicula combat weapons, this is now walking on Twisted Metal territory.

The larger and more popular games become, the larger that possibility is, unfortunately.

There are people to this day that are still constantly and actively pushing against violent video games. They will always be there.

True, but mods helped people in different countries obtain the versions they wanted. Depending on how things go, mods could do the same here.

Thing is, Carmageddon has been hanging onto its last legs for years. Ever since C3, the franchise has been pretty much forgotten with mostly mid releases. Id argue them going back to the OG, blood splatter and humans to run over would get them back more on track. Something to make them stand out and a bit of originality compared to other car combat games. Its like making blood and fatalities dissapear from MK games. It loses part of its DNA of what the game was all about in the first place. Whatever it is I hope it doesnt end up liek the last Twisted Metal where it was barebones cast and turned into some multiplayer match instead.

Fan fact, the blood patch (the patch that replaced zombies in some version of the first game) is the first file I've ever downloaded from the internet in 1997. Time fly by so fast.

This game looks cool but it is more similar to twistwd metal than Carmageddon. We will see.

Would be great if they have more cars based on popular ones even if unlicensed. I think previously they were fairly generic types of vehicles.

How was the last game, also? Was it similar to 2? 2 was a lot of fun at the time.

Not sure it looks super dark and generic, the tracks looks super linear(?) not sure, kinda missed the old big maps with a "small" track there....
Also not a fan of the zombies.

Not sure what's fantastic about, looks like uninspired, generic slop that doesn't capture the feel of the original games at all.

Also zombies, really.

Nah, I don't even mind it's zombies, but the tracks look like they're closed off and linear. One of the main reasons why I played past Carmageddon games was having dumb fun in the open locations instead of actually racing on pre-planned routes.

Lookin like the Death Race movie with Jason Statham. Im down but the physics and handling better be good.
