Capcom: "Grace And Leon's Sections in Resident Evil Requiem Are Almost Equally Split"

My worry is it'll be no enemy variety and just cheap jump scares. RE7 mold people got boring fast.
That was my issue as well that has more to with bad enemy designs and so far in trailer we see proper zombies in RE9 so I'm not really worried.

But I have a fat cock. 🥹 Maybe I'll work on my personality to insnare this digital woman soon.

sounds like 2 completely different games in one! outlast/ Re4 with zombies, I wasn't excited for the outlast/Re7 part in this game but the Leon part saves the day, I'm happy to see zombies too

I am interested in Grace, but that interest goes right out the window when my boi Leon is two feet away. I'd rather have the whole game with him and his sections. I can get my pure survival horror fix elsewhere, but can't get my RE4 fix anywhere by RE4 (and TLOU2 to a lesser degree).

I think this is a bit of a problem. Not to be negative but if Grace is supposed to be the future of Resident Evil, she has HUGE uphill battle to win us over if you're going to have the fan favorite share equal time with her. I don't see how she won't be completely overshadowed by him.

Also if Grace is going to be slow horror and Leon fast action, I can see a situation where this could end up being an uneven game, with some people disliking half the game because it doesn't cater to their style. Maybe they'll pull it off, but we'll see.

Actually, wait a second. No. I can't play this. The problem is, I have taste, and standards.

I was expecting a 50/50 split. They talked about how they want to give you horror and than take a break from horror with action moments.

Comparing Jill/Leon/etc to Grace is a bit too much, Jill/Leon/Chris are trained special forces/army counter terrorist, etc while Grace, younger and although FBI mostly has worked as an analyst and has never had any horrifying encounters or any experience so it's natural she is scared, horrified and not great in action.

Give it some time and see how Grace kicks zombies and mauls them once she reaches RE10 or 11 lol

Yeah seriously enough with Ada. She's hot but she's a one note character, and because of that she's not interesting enough to warrant seeing a 50 year old version of her still playing "will they won't they?" with Leon.

Running theme with Leon is Ada isn't too far behind. And the age thing is a nonissue where characters seemingly don't age. They can always pull the Plaga Virus(even moreso if they decide RE9 follows REmake continuity) card and say side effects happen to slow aging like they did with T-Virus.

I totally expect a Ada DLC to happen.

Aging is a non-issue for Jill as far as I'm aware, but Leon looks visibly older. Like he has some wrinkles.

My head canon is that Ada bought that Porsche for Baby L with her crazy rich asian money. This is just his hobby now when he's not making fitness smoothies for Ada and tanning by the pool she paid for.

Capcom as usual don't have the balls to decide if they want to make an action game or a horror game, because they know people want a horror game but they can't cook a compelling gameplay if it's not action, so they're just going to make two games in one, just like RE8.

There are still people who want to avoid all Leon spoilers..........he's literally half the game so I guess don't follow any coverage at all of it until release.

A bit worried about the pacing of the game.
The 'let's try to make everyone happy approach', usually doesn't make anyone happy.
Reminds me of RE6.

Sounds like it's not RE2's A/B campaign then.

Maybe they will add a cool 'arranged mode' when RE9: Gold Edition comes out so you can play it A/B style.

Considering Leon's gameplay was described as 'high octane action' I'm guessing they will use Grace sections in between to give the player a breather...to then heighten the player's adrenaline anyway with horror lol.

Revelations 1/2 is a better comparison because RE6 was a mess with too many characters and campaign styles on top of mediocre gameplay. RE6 just felt like Capcom learned all of the worst lessons from 360 shooters and RE5.

That's a great point tbh. I'm definitely still excited for her. Design and personality wise, she has the cute smart girl thing Rebecca has going, and Rebecca is my second favorite character in the series after Leon. She's off to a great start, and if she was the only character, this was still going to be a hyped day 1 collectors edition for me.

I also like her obvious parallels with Leon. Rookie on her first field assignment, encounters BOWs in a balls to wall situation where she's in over her head. She's straight up in RE2 Leons position.

Theory but in spoilers just in case:
I also have a theory that she's Leon's daughter. The director was super coy when a journo asked about Graces dad, which made me think it has to be someone we know. Blondes recessive, and while two blonde parents aren't necessary for a blonde child, they are still more likely. Leon is the only other blonde male core character other than Wesker and I don't see Alyssa going there lmfao

Also I feel like Alyssa's serious personality would complete Leons dorkiness. With her being an investigative reporter, there is no way she wouldn't have at some point interviewed Leon as a fellow survivor of Raccoon so it would make sense they'd come across eachother.

On top of that, 23 is the youngest possible age one can join the FBI. That would put her conception at around 2 years after RE4 when Leon was infected with Las Plagas. We know Alyssa was infected with the T-virus like all Outbreak characters, so that marriage of bloodborne pathogens/anti-gens might be what makes Grace's blood so special. It would explain why Dr. Victor Yurichenko (who I'm still 90% sure is Dr. Oswell E. Spencer for a couple of reasons) is so interested in her. She completes this new virus which is likely based on his original design of T-virus (we have classic zombies back, T is involved somehow here).

I think that's how they'll pass Leons torch. His daughter in a similar situation he started off in up against the villain who started the entire series. Mark my words, she'll be wisecracking like a cornball by the end of the game.

I'm also reasonably sure her blood will be used to cure Leons zombie infection he has in his character stills, and he'll end up in a mentor roll for her in the future.

I think I'll love her by the end. Tons of potential.

We'll see how it goes. RE games are fairly short but have high replay value for unlocking all sorts of stuff.
The slower paced sections tend to become a chore when replaying the game (like that damn doll house in RE Village) so hopefully Grace's section is more than hiding from a big monster.

Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi told Automaton that Leon and Grace will share the game's runtime equally. "In terms of gameplay, Grace and Leon's playable sections are almost equally split," Nakanishi said. "The structure is similar to Resident Evil Revelations."

Nakanishi added that Requiem is Leon's first return to Raccoon City since his time in Resident Evil 2, "so seeing how he responds to the 'place where it all began' now that he's older is another major point of interest." In terms of designing this more gruff Leon for Requiem, the director said, "Although he's a character who carries a lot on his shoulders, we took a lot of care in refining him to be an 'ikeoji' [a cool/attractive guy]," adding that the reaction to this new trailer made the development team happy.

Ikeoji means attractive / good looking old man.

yeah, i just wanted a full RE survival horror game and not half survival, half action.... what a mess.

i think this RE ll flop hard.
why ? why to you guys want an action RE game ? RE5-6 are a bad joke, why do you guys want so bad to go back to that point ?
I'm not sure this is a franchise for you. I mean they have been at it for nearly 30 years now, so there isn't really any room to argue the soul of the franchise is so serious. Even the most survival horror ones have bombastic bosses and action sequences. Evil Dead has always been the closest cultural reference, if not Jack Reacher movies or Deep Rising.

Maybe Silent Hill or The Evil Within is more your thing.

I'm thinking they just named Revalations because you switch off between people doing different things. RE8 had mix of horror/feeling helpless and stuff like blasting 50 werewolves in the face. It was also a huge success and substantial cultural moment in the industry. There wasn't wide complaint about it being uneven or indecisive about what it wanted to be. I don't see reason to doubt they can pull it off well. It's what they do. It's what RE has been for at least 20 years but I would argue even since the beginning, just technologically limited in the earliest days.

i ll say you this, if RE5-6 is the future of this franchise once again i ll for sure see myself out.

But yeah, there ll be always other games to play or even the old RE games to replay.

I trust today's Capcom way more, like you said.

I do prefer the A/B scenario design though...they haven't done it right since original 2 actually...

Mod Leon in the whole time day 0 mod is really the best thing that makes the pc better and we all know it.

I'm a Leon man.

I am most nervous about what this does to story pacing and inventory management. Hoping between two inventories, and gameplay styles, mission to mission sounds like it could suck the fun out.
