Copilot, ads, one drive uploads and Edge icons on taskbar were never forced here, WTF!

Windows 11 is now automatically enabling OneDrive folder backup without asking permission:
Like the people in this thread insisting that OneDrive doesn't upload files by default?
Who said this other than you??Windows is so easy and problem free to run.
Exactly, the Neowin article linked by that Reddit post has the steps to disable OneDrive backup.
OneDrive backup is selected by default, and if you just click next, next, next it "shocker" gets turned on. But if you actually read the screen, it's disabling a toggle during the initial setup.
"Oh no, OneDrive that I choose to use now automatically tries to backup my files making this less risky of losing my files if I forgot to turn on backups.""Microsoft has made OneDrive slightly more annoying for Windows 11 users. Quietly and without any announcement, the company changed Windows 11's initial setup so that it could turn on the automatic folder backup without asking for it."
"Quietly and without any announcement" "Turn on the automatic folder backup without asking for it.""Oh no, OneDrive that I choose to use now automatically tries to backup my files making this less risky of losing my files if I forgot to turn on backups."![]()
And??"Quietly and without any announcement" "Turn on the automatic folder backup without asking for it."
A cloud backup system should prompt and ask first, whether it's Steam or Microsoft. As to which is worse, Valve isn't uploading your whole documents folder to their own servers without asking. And then potentially training their LLM on the contents of your word documents once they have all of that info unencrypted on their computer. And??
Should I be annoyed that Steam and GOG automatically turn on cloud saves too??
Is it how?? And how does it affect my gaming experiences or make it worse than on Linux??If you don't think Microsoft dictating how you use your computer is a big deal
If you are really concerned with privacy, you shouldn't be playing games on the computer you do everything else with. There have been hacks for multiplayer games that exploit PCs just by connected to a bad server or client. Is it extremely common? No, but it's a big possible point of entry. From what i gather, All Windows issues are not gaming related but OS/Privacy related.
With Linux you don't have these issues but in contrast, game compatibility and performance is worse.
Thing is, you can fix/avoid most of the Windows issues mentioned in this thread using debloaters. In fact, the biggest issue for me would be which debloater to use as it seems there are many.
But with Linux you can't fix the compatiblity/performance issues with games. Your only choice is to wait for updates to fix them.
Also, most issues are Windows 11 related. Windows 10 has much less issues (and you can debloat that as well) so you can use that. It still gets updated for 3 years if you use the tsforge activator.
As an example, the recent windows feature\update breaking NVIDIA performance in games. You get unwanted features and worse performance in games! Is it how?? And how does it affect my gaming experiences or make it worse than on Linux??
In some GPUs and already fixed. Meanwhile what about all the games that perform worse, don't work or works with issues on Linux??As an example, the recent windows feature\update breaking NVIDIA performance in games.
You asked for an example how it affects gaming. Here's another one:In some GPUs and already fixed. Meanwhile what about all the games that perform worse, don't work or works with issues on Linux??
You asked for an example how it affects gaming. Here's another one:
24h2 breaking game audio. What are some of the things 24h2 adds:
What's new for Windows 11, version 24H2
Windows 11, version 24H2 includes all the features and capabilities delivered as part of continuous innovation to Windows 11, now enabled by default. This scoped release also features enhancements designed to improve your overall experience with Windows 11. Highlights include:
- Copilot+ PCs exclusive features:
- Live Captions
- Cocreator in Paint
- Windows Studio Effects
- Auto Super Resolution
- Image Creator and Restyle Image
Linux isn't problem free. But at least I'm not getting AI focused "feature" updates that force unwanted features on me AND break game performance.Already fixed I suppose as I never had anything like that.
Again, what about Linux fixing their problems??
But you are getting several gaming problems. Guess what is the less "evil" on a gaming PC.Linux isn't problem free. But at least I'm not getting AI focused "feature" updates that force unwanted features on me AND break game performance.
Cool?? NO. Did it affect my gaming stuff?? No.

IMO, Steam OS is a bad choice for a desktop OS. Yes, it has a desktop mode but the way it's setup it's designed to be used as a game console.I always tun off one drive (and auto start in task menager) after every windows install since W10.
I tried Linux experience ~2010 with Ubuntu, after nvidia driver break the whole GUI my adventure ended, lol. Maybe some years from now when everything "just works" I will migrate to Linux (maybe steam os will work on desktop pcs officially).
Yeah, this is why I use my Mac for everything other than gaming or watching YouTube (and similar crap). If you are really concerned with privacy, you shouldn't be playing games on the computer you do everything else with. There have been hacks for multiplayer games that exploit PCs just by connected to a bad server or client. Is it extremely common? No, but it's a big possible point of entry.
I'm very interested to see how game mode ends up working once it's rolled out to all Windows 11 PCs. A controller driven Xbox DNA derived 10 foot interface would be great. Especially if that mode disables a good chunk of the bloat automatically.
Both.So does it make sense to dictate that it's there or is it not cool?
One of the first things I do when I install Windows is to uninstall OneDrive so I never saw any of this happening. And even if happen some day will not be an issue for gaming.I never chose to use OneDrive, always turn off as much of that crap as I can, and one day it was just integrated into Windows Explorer. I think the only "account requirement" is a Microsoft account
This guy is super cool everyone if you haven't noticed for the entire thread. No point in trying to have a conversation about this because he will remind us all that Windows is better, always. I bet little rodrigo had the same arguments about ME, Vista, 8 and 8.1. So close thread, nothing constructive to talk about.Both.

Why don't you prove that it is not instead of cry??This guy is super cool everyone if you haven't noticed for the entire thread. BTW I'm coming up on a month with Bazzite as my main OS and I haven't booted into windows once. While this guy is arguing about the joys of Windows and how to make it the Bestest OS EVAR(!) I'm too busy gaming with my Nvidia card in Linux to care about them. I'm just a bit sick of coming to this thread and seeing his BS all the time. Would be nice to just talk about a solution for people who aren't making blood sacrifices for no reason to Windows.
No crying, and no one cares about your black screen issue except you. So maybe Linux isn't for you, like this threadWhy don't you prove that it is not instead of cry??
And why don't you give me a solution for my games having a black screen in video cutscenes too??
The difference is those issues are fixed quickly and you have the ability to easily rollback your drivers/updates to something more stable. As an example, the recent windows feature\update breaking NVIDIA performance in games. You get unwanted features and worse performance in games!
The Linux experience™no one cares about your black screen issue except you. So maybe Linux isn't for you, like this thread![]()
Yeah, just me:No crying, and no one cares about your black screen issue except you. So maybe Linux isn't for you, like this thread![]()
If you spent any effort at actually wanting a solution I wouldn't be calling you out. It takes 3 seconds to fix that if you wanted to. Anyways you're just here to antagonize with your Windows BS. Enjoy your thing, and I'll enjoy mine. A lot of times it just comes down to simple reading comprehension to get things going. That's why I'm saying linux and this thread may not be for you.Yeah, just me:

I dont understand Linux users complaining about some windows feature when you can remove it easily.

I don't understand Windows users. Y'all are the biggest doormats I've ever seen. Willing to let Microsoft spy, train its LLM on your files/browsing habits. Break core features of your operating system experience on the regular. The difference is those issues are fixed quickly and you have the ability to easily rollback your drivers/updates to something more stable.

Most likely, you just need to switch to the latest ProtonGE to fix that issue.Yeah, just me:

I spend a hugh time looking for a solution, none of the solutions provided worked so far.If you spent any effort at actually wanting a solution I wouldn't be calling you out. Changed nothing for Wuthering Waves. Most likely, you just need to switch to the latest ProtonGE to fix that issue.
The answer is even given to you above, but as stated you're only here to antagonize. Funny choice of emoji.I spend a hugh time looking for a solution, none of the solutions provided worked so far.
"Windows works = BS."
"Lunix don't work = linux is not for you"
Changed nothing for Wuthering Waves.
The answer is even given to you above, but as stated you're only here to antagonize. Funny choice of emoji.
Need a drawing??Changed nothing for Wuthering Waves.
Are you using the Steam Version of the game? I've played it, it works fine for me with Cachy and Bazzite.Changed nothing for Wuthering Waves.
You'll eventually just get sick of talking to him because the argument basically distills down to:Are you using the Steam Version of the game? I've played it, it works fine for me with Cachy and Bazzite.
You have to use SteamDeck=1 as a launch option and use ProtonGE
Again, a simple Google search would have given you the answer.
I'm already sick of talking to him. I was before I even started. You'll eventually just get sick of talking to him because the argument basically distills down to:
1) Windows Gaming problems are always quickly fixed. Even when they're not.
2) The only lens we should look at an operating system through is gaming. Even if there's only a 15-20 FPS difference, that means Windows wins.
3) Constantly move goalposts when someone brings up something Windows is deficient at when related to gaming.
Yes. I am on Nobara. Everything works except cutscenes that are videos. Black screen with audio only. Again, ProtonGE latest changed nothing. Are you using the Steam Version of the game? I've played it, it works fine for me with Cachy and Bazzite.

I found the ignore button on their profile, this thread is infinitely better. And no it's not that I can't admit things, it's that I don't need to listen to children argue subjects they don't understand.I'm already sick of talking to him. I was before I even started.
I just felt like providing answers to his "problems" to prove that they were easily fixed. Probably moreso than a lot of Windows gaming issues.
I like how easy you make it sound.I don't understand Windows users. Y'all are the biggest doormats I've ever seen. Willing to let Microsoft spy, train its LLM on your files/browsing habits. Break core features of your operating system experience on the regular.
You could play 98% of the games you want at almost performance parity with Linux but you're willing to let Microsoft do the digital equivalent of random cavity searches just so you can play some Valorant or Fortnite.
They are. The general problems you might come across Windows are an inconvenience compared to Linux. You'll eventually just get sick of talking to him because the argument basically distills down to:
1) Windows Gaming problems are always quickly fixed. Even when they're not.
With an Nvidia GPU the performance loss can be as bad as 20%. Downplaying this is extremely silly.2) The only lens we should look at an operating system through is gaming. Even if there's only a 15-20 FPS difference, that means Windows wins.
Same here. Just put him on ignore.I found the ignore button on their profile, this thread is infinitely better. And no it's not that I can't admit things, it's that I don't need to listen to children argue subjects they don't understand.
Sick of tanking to me and some others like Hero_Select and kevbord counter argumenting your crap arguments?? Keep crying. We are still waiting for arguments that Lunix > Windows for gaming.

Keep crying like a snowflake without arguments.I found the ignore button on their profile, this thread is infinitely better. And no it's not that I can't admit things, it's that I don't need to listen to children argue subjects they don't understand.
Snowflake can't counter argument, will put people in ignore.Same here. Just put him on ignore.
