Robocop Rogue City - Really thought I had 100% achievements in this but despite saving a cat from the hotel it didn't trip that achievement.
I had fun with this game. It takes place in between Robocop 2 and 3 and stars basically every character from the movies that isn't already dead. It includes a lot more day-to-day police work like writing tickets and arresting low-level criminals. The game also features a lot of relationship building between you and your fellow officers in an almost RPG-like dialogue system which has consequences as you progress. The writing is decent as are the scenarios, though they aren't quite on-par with the original film. The character interactions kept me interested in what was happening. Gameplay is interesting, Robocop is slow, really slow, but he's supposed to be slow. Robocop doesn't just dive around like he's in a Call of Duty game. Instead, Robocop acts like a walking tank with various abilities for protection that can be upgraded as you level up. He has scanners that can see through smoke, night vision, armor hardening, he can slow time (to portray his faster processing), an EMP, and his basic armor often causes bullets to ricochet and kill people firing at him. On that note steel objects in the environment also serve this purpose allowing you to hit targets behind cover using the ricochet. The environments are right out of the movie, featuring the streets of 1980's Detroit, the factory district, OCP headquarters and of course the police station seen in the films. Almost everything has some degree of destructibility, walls crumble and can sometimes be charged through, light can be shot out making everything pitch black and vehicles explode. The great weapon selection helps you destroy everything, from Robocop's iconic Auto 9 to the explosive shell rifle featured in the first movie. The music fits the game well and the voice acting is decent, but the game's sound mixing was abysmal. Any time people were either talking on the phone or through radio the volume was non-existent, often drowned out by the music. Other times the music was too quiet to hear well. The game uses UE5 and with it comes UE5 issues which were present here. The DOF implementation is perhaps the worst I've ever seen to the point I disabled it entirely, and the game has a memory leak or some similar issue. 100+fps became 9fps over time requiring restarts or leading to complete freezing. The checkpoints are very generous, so it was not a huge issue, but was still annoying. The game was much longer than I expected and despite that I enjoyed it enough that I'm looking at maybe grabbing the Unfinished Business expansion.

#12 - The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut (2008) - PC
What a fantastic game, one of the best I've ever played, the story is very good. Despite its limitations at the time, the game manages to be quite deep, with good dialogue and choices, as a true RPG should be. Thanks to Steam Input, I was able to create a controller setup that proved quite effective and allowed me to finish the game, something I'd been trying to do for years but couldn't get very far.
The game is also very beautiful, with lovely artistic choices that highlight the limitations of the Aurora Engine. The soundtrack is sensational and helps to immerse you in that world.
It's a very long game, since you need to gain a lot of experience to face certain enemies. I died several times, but luckily the game saves everywhere.
This year will end without me completing the challenge. I really wanted to play RPGs after watching Frieren, so I played many RPGs for hundreds of hours.

It's really tough. I tried it back in 2024 and gave up midway through.
I might try again in 2026, but I'll focus on shorted games from my ever-growing backlog.

I spent too much time playing Gears of War (~600 hrs) and FFXIV (~300 hes) and I kinda lost focus in the middle of the year, that's why I failed. But then again, I went for platinums, not just beating games, otherwise it would've been way easier.
So yeah, 42 platinum trophies is still a lot for me, given that my PS account is 17 years old and I only had 62 before this year. So I still did a lot.
I'm looking forward to 2026, new year new try.

49. Soul Calibur 3 9/10
I love old fighting games. The games were more fun than the games released today, there were sexy female characters and there was lots of content to unlock just by playing the games you didn't need to buy dlc.
50. Burnout Paradise Remastered
My favourite racing game. The map is not that large compared to today's games but it's way more dense. Lots of things to discover and the best of all no shitty story just racing and challenges. Unfortunately for online you need an EA account which sucks.

I have a weakness for old fighting games. It was fun replaying this game after many years. I'm shocked how good the graphic still look today. There are a ton of characters to unlock.
It was a fun challenge but I'm not sure if I will participate in 2026. Actually before I became a member of neogaf I managed to finish over 70 games in 2014 without even putting any effort into it.

I figured I would try to squeeze the first three Devil may Cry games before the end of the year, but I don't think it's happening.
Game 92 - 93
Devil May Cry - Finished playthrough and sucked the entire time.
I tried playing this earlier in the year and at some point forgot I'd started it. I started over and hunkered down. The game is pretty good, but suffers from quite a few issues, many related to this specific version. At the end of the day this is an ancient 3D action game, and it shows its age. It attempts to do platforming and does so terribly. The camera is not good, with hard changes causing you to constantly exit and re-enter screens which gets in the way of the combat. The combat is fine but feels limited compared to Kamiya's later action games. It's definitely a product of its time. Getting to visuals and sound, this is the "HD" version of a PS2 game and while I don't expect miracles from a PS2 foundation, 240p FMV and basically zero visual settings is never good on PC. The music is there, I don't remember any of it but it wasn't bad or anything. What was bad though, was the voice acting (in a good way). "I should have been the one to fill your dark soul with liiiiiiiiiiight!" Fantastic!

This game is so different from the first. Gone is the layered and maze-like level design of the castle in the first game, one of my favorite parts of the first game. Instead, almost everything is pretty much a straight line. Combat balance is much worse, guns auto target at lightning speed and deal more damage, so the swordplay is not as important. There are improvements to the camera and overall visuals with some pretty cool "breathing" and warping environments. I also liked that Dante's and Lucia's playthroughs are different, including unique boss fights. At the end of the day though, the game lost a lot of its personality which is unfortunate. Dante was not as interesting; Lucia was not especially compelling, and the villain was an evil businessman whose name I've already forgotten.
The next two are games I played on and off throughout the year.

Forza Motorsport (2023) - Raced some races, completed events until the game was dumped.
A few good things happened with this game this year. Kaido made a return. the game actually doesn't run like ass (unless you leave it running more than a few hours), and they stopped removing events from the event list. Unfortunately, Kaido wasn't really used in anything, the game has been basically dumped by Xbox, and they stopped adding any events. This game spent two years as an early access title, then just as things started getting acceptable it was over. It sucks because if I want to play a racing game without hooking up a steering wheel and pedals, this is about the best controlling "sim" on the market with a gamepad. Oh well.
Forza Horizon 6 - Finished any new events
The Horizon series are my favorite racing games, and this one is my favorite of the series. I never got tired of the map; the roads all flow into each other and the DLC areas are fantastic to visit. The problem is that this game has been out for four years and I've played every aspect of it multiple times. Again, I love the map and location, but I'm done with it. I sure hope they do Japan justice with the next game, maybe tone down the neon jizz all over the place and take the squeaky British voice actors behind the woodshed.

Another failure. I'm half way through a lot of games right now so maybe I'll be able to do it next year.
Mini reviews:
Infinity Nikki Firework Season - Amazing expansion with a whole new big island, story, missions, everything. Also a huge 'Only Up' style platforming story mission where you are jumping on hot air balloons way up into the sky.
Infinity Nikki - Finished the full game. It's really no joke a good game with fun platforming and exploration and some of the best graphics in 2025. It's free and Nikki is cute.
Infinity Nikki Bubble Season - They killed the game with this expansion. Retconning the story for no reason. Adding double the busy daily work in a new boring multiplayer zone where you can't even see what the other players are wearing, only their transparent forms. So many tasks to do with a limited time to receive the rewards. It was no longer a cozy relaxing game. Also for many people they couldn't even log in for about 10 days on Playstation due to a bug. It went from an amazing game to an uninstalled game in one patch.
Avowed - The combat is ok but does get repetitive after a while. Game is really woke. Literally 90% of every notable npc is a woman. That's just weird. I got no problem with female characters and my own character was female but that's too much. You could tell they followed the woke requirement of making male characters flawed or show their vulnerable/sensitive sides. The goal of the game was to stop the disease but I ended up wanting to spread it. Each area was just a bigger quest hub that got so tedious. Forced myself to finish it.
Beyond Blue - Ocean Wildlife diving game. I may have bought it because it's third person and your character has a nice booty in her wetsuit. It's alright. Cool that it included some real life footage unlocks. The underwater home base (what even was it?) was nice and relaxing, listening to music and looking out the windows. The story and objectives were not very good. It had potential to be a better game. Nice underwater booty though.
BALL x PIT - YEAH fun game! Up to the point where you get too powerful. So progression wasn't really balanced too well. No big deal though, no need to take a block breaker game TOO seriously. At least it was fun for a while.

Got one more update before the ball drops! I didn't get to every dlc I wanted to get to, but I got through most of them.

I got wrapped up in the Ezio collection and that ate into the last bit of the year but I'm glad I did. There games are fun, a lot more than AC 1 is nowadays. They each improve on the last in a lot of important ways, especially the movement. The recruitable assassins are neat, but I didn't find much reason to use them or really engage with the mission system outside of trophies. Roof guards are the bane of these games and make just exploring the world a hassle. The lack of dedicated stealth in a game about assassins is baffling but it is what it is.
DLC round up:
1: Far Cry 5: Hours of Darkness
I liked this one. It was short, sweet and a little light on content. I honestly would've paid for a full expansion like Blood Dragon or Primal with this premise.
2: Far Cry 5: Lost on Mars
Weapons are cool. I found Hurk to be very grating and it just didn't have the content to really make it fun.
3: Far Cry 5: Dead Living Zombies
This one sucked. A bunch of time attack levels with comic cutscenes. Barely any content.
4: Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil
More Doom 3, love it or hate it. The Artifact was fun, though it took me until the end of the game to realize you had to equip it and walk over corpses to recharge it. The grab gun was fun, but I didn't use it often after getting its associated trophy.
5: Doom 3: Lost Mission
Even more Doom 3! This time with only remixed content outside of story. Not bad, always cool to see beta/cut content seeing the light of day.
6: Ghost of Tsushima: Iki Island
It took me a while to get back into Ghost after not having played for years, and I don't think I fully did. Won't hold that against it that I didn't play the best I could've. Very enjoyable, though I wish it included a post main game epilogue to close out Jin's story.
7: Warhammer 40k: Boltgun: Forge of Corruption
More Boltgun, though I don't think it was quite as hard as the base game. The multi-melta and the rocket launcher being so op were a helluva lotta fun.
8: The Last of Us: Left Behind
I should not have played this on Survivor. Whatever emotion this might've made me feel was overwhelmed by how pissed off the few combat sections made me. I almost threw my controller through my tv. Not fun in the slightest.
9: Resident Evil 7: Banned Footage Vol 1: Nightmare
Not much to say here. A short little survival mode that doesn't overstay its welcome.
10: Resident Evil 7: Banned Footage Vol 1: Bedroom
Short escape room experience. Could've been a bit longer and maybe a little more challenging.
11: Resident Evil 7: Banned Footage Vol 2: 21
I suck at blackjack. I would've been better at it if it was Texas Hold Em', but I'm not sure how you would turn that into a quick SAW experience.
12: Resident Evil 7: Banned Footage Vol 2: Daughters
Short like the rest. I wish it was longer. Everyone get infected in minutes, and we don't really get a good look at the Baker house before the mold showed up.
13: Resident Evil 7: End of Zoe
Probably the most ridiculous and fun of 7's dlcs. Swamp man punching out biological nightmares and having a wrestling match with Swamp-Thing is a highlight.
14: Resident Evil 8: Shadow of Rose
Very different from most RE content. Not bad, but I hated the middle section with the dolls. Felt like it was trying too hard to replicate the second chapter of RE8.

Just gonna talk about both of these together. Not a whole lot here, both felt really short and neither added much to the game. Screw that church climbing mission in Vanity. Broken detection makes that mission almost unbearable.

More effect put into this one. Pretty fun and more Da Vinci isn't something I'll turn down.

I have no idea why they thought people wanted more of these sections. Not even relaxing, just annoying. I gave up on the two flawless trophies.
19: Tales of Graces f: Lineages and Legacies
Not much new here, beyond more playable Richard and a new power up mode. Still, I rather liked it. Not many Tales games get post game story outside of the bonus dungeon. Felt more light hearted and silly compared to the main game, not that Graces isn't lighthearted to begin with. Seeing Sophie 'grow up' as it were was a highlight.

Game 28 - Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment - Nintendo Switch 2
Final game beaten in 2025 is the new warriors game in the Zelda series. I like how this shows how the Imprisonin War was really a huge conflict around Hyrule, while Tears of the Kingdom just showed a few characters battling. The warriors formula can get triring after a while, so these games should not be played too often. I 100% cleared this and will probably return if there's DLC.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature of the Krusty Krab (GBA/AP) 1/8
I don't remember what possessed me to play this game, but frankly, it wasn't bad at all! It's a short little platformer with a ton of gimmicked sections. It feels right at home as an IP game that would have been on the SNES. Great sprites and overall visuals.
Astro Boy (GBA/M) 1/12
This game is awesome if you haven't played it before. It's made by Treasure, and it's a platformer beat-em-up, in the same vein as Gunstar Heroes. If you're a fan of Gunstar, this is definitely worth a playthrough!
Monkey Ball (Arcade) 1/23
This is the original "Super Monkey Ball" game, which debuted in 2001 before the GameCube version. It uses Sega's NAOMI arcade hardware, and features a giant banana arcade stick. This is exactly what you think it is, and it's excellent. I spent a few hours quarter-feeding my way through all of the levels, and it was an absolute joy.
Line Wobbler (Indie Arcade) 1/24
This one isn't a standard "video game" per se, but an experimental indie game. This was a game featured in the Indie Arcade at MAGFest, and it features a very long LED light strip, where you have to time your button presses to a cluster of lights going through the strip. It's surprising how deep the game gets, given that you only have one button and one linear LED light strip, and it's really hard to explain, but here's a video. I genuinely had a blast playing through this, and award it some extra points for how creative it is.
Sega Rally Championship (Saturn) 1/29
What can I say? This game is a damn classic. It would score higher if I had the nostalgia that some have for it, or if it had more tracks. But this game is THE rally game for a reason. I have a hard time "only" giving it a 7, since I know that this game was a 9 when it came out. But it's peak Saturn, and absolutely worth your time.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii) 1/31/
I hover between an 8 and a 9 for this game. I fucking LOVE Mario games, and so playing through this is always such a joy. But I acknowledge that it doesn't have the staying power of some of the other 2D Mario games. Still, it's basically a perfect platformer in terms of gameplay. It suffers a bit in terms of level design, since it's designed for 1-4 players, so the levels never feel as tight as some other Mario games. Still, such an excellent game.

First off, it's hard to score shmups. I LOVE shmups, but I also recognize they might not have the pedigree that some of the other games on this list do. But it's my list, and my ranking, so whatever. Under Defeat is an awesome mid-2000s shmup, much in the Toaplan style. It's a top-down 3D shmup, with excellent pacing, memorable bosses, and enough gameplay diversity to keep it interesting throughout the whole game. Super fun.
Star of Providence (Switch) 3/4
This is that game published by Dunkey's BIG MODE company, and it fuckin RULES. It's a roguelike shmup, similar in concept to something like The Binding of Isaac, except with the action and difficulty pumped way past 11. This game just keeps on giving, and it keeps on beating your ass. Just when you overcome a wall, you realize there's another one twice as high waiting for you. The actual shmup gameplay (which is twin-stick style) is perfect, and balancing your bombs and weaponry keeps the game strategic. PLAY THIS GAME!

Easily one of my favorite Mega Man games, and probably my favorite from the X series. What else do I have to say about this?
Spaceplan (iOS) 4/30
This is a "clicker/idle" game on iOS, published by Devolver. I don't remember too much about it, but it was fun enough to beat.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (PC) 5/3
This is my Game Of The Year, and I'll spare you the review. All I'll say is that I famously hate JRPGs, and yet I somehow LOVED this game.
The Untouchables (SNES) 5/12
I played this game as a joke, and it was dogshit. But I forced myself to play all the way through. It's bad lol.
DOOM: Dark Ages (PC) 5/31
I had a great time with Dark Ages. It's probably the weakest of the 3 for me. Or maybe it's tied with Eternal? I loved the gameplay, and I appreciated how much you could tweak your experience. But nothing beats DOOM 2016.
Lion King 1 1/2 (GBA) 7/13
I randomly rolled this game and actually stuck with it enough to beat it. There's basically nothing redeeming about this game. I'm now realizing that I give too high of scores overall, cause this game was a turd lol.
Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo (NS2) 7/13
BIGGEST SLEEPER OF 2025 EASILY. This game is a top-down Zelda-like with incredible gameplay, and absolutely genius puzzles. It's got a bit of Metroidvania in it as well, with how it progresses. Check out this thread on GAF to learn more. You didn't play this game, but you SHOULD HAVE.
Ben Jordan Paranormal Investigator (PC) 8/15
I played this dumb game at a friend's house. It's a bad-yet-good point-and-click adventure, and I'm pretty sure it was made by one guy. It's a hilarious drunken playthrough with friends, but do I recommend it overall? Probably not.
Super Ghouls and Ghosts (SNES) 8/17
This game SUCKS. UGH. For those who don't know, you need to beat this game twice in a row in order to actually beat it. I beat the first loop surprisingly easily, and kind of felt like a gaming god. And I even got to the end of the second loop quickly, as well. Then you get to the REAL final stage with the REAL final boss, and this easily took me more time to beat than the entire rest of the game combined. Probably times 2. I hated the final boss of this game SO much, especially because you're forced to use a dogshit weapon in order to actually get to the final boss. It makes the whole experience suck wet farts. That being said, the other 95% of the game is just incredible.
Donkey Kong Bananza (NS2) 8/21
This game was a joy from start to finish. It never hits the heights of something like Odyssey, but blasting through terrain really scratches an itch I didn't know I had. You all know enough about this game by now, though.
Balatro (NS2) 8/28
Another game that you know enough about. This game is absolute CRACK. I finally beat all of the colors on one of the decks, which is what I'm considering "beating" the game, even though I'm nowhere close to 100%ing it.
Hollow Knight: Silksong (NS2) 9/23
I loved Silksong, but it's filled with bullshit. The gameplay is second-to-none. The visuals, atmosphere, music, map layout, and everything is just top-notch. But there's just so much bullshit that they should have balanced or should straight-up removed. Like all of those enemy gauntlets, especially the ones prior to bosses. Plus some of the bosses were designed not to just be difficult, but to be unfair. Also, I'll never forgive Team Cherry for once again making your waste an equip slot on SEEING YOUR POSITION ON THE FUCKING MAP. Still, the game is pretty close to a masterpiece.
Hades 2 (NS2) 10/15
Now this game IS a Masterpiece, and probably my #2 game of the year. I'm sure you guys already know enough about it, but I truly don't see how they could have improved this game in any way. Yes, it's kind of just "More Hades", but it's also SO much more than just "more". Incredible game that everyone needs to play.
Cuphead + DLC (NS2) 10/19
Cuphead is my comfort game. I just love this game so much.
DoDonPachi DaiOuJou (iOS) 11/15
This classic CAVE shmup was ported to the iPhone probably about 10 years ago, and it's still ridiculously fun. I'd probably give the arcade version a 9, but I'll have to give the iOS version an 8, just because of how much easier the game is when you can control the ship via touch screen. It makes you feel like an absolute god, though.
Mortal Kombat (GB) 11/17
This is the Game Boy port of Mortal Kombat 1, and it's SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT. It wasn't fun to play through even as a joke.
Rose & Camellia (NS)
This hilariously stupid game is a story-driven slap-em-up. Basically, you play a debutant who wants to inherit the estate of your dead husband, but you have to SLAP your way through your foes in 1v1 slap-off mini game challenges. I laughed so hard at this game. Does it actually deserve a 7? Probably not. But it was too hilarious for me to review it any lower. You should check this game out.
Super Mario Land (AP/GB)
One of my favorite Mario games, even if my judgment is clouded through nostalgia. Bangin' soundtrack, though.
Bishi Bashi Channel (Arcade) 11/21
If you've never played this game, it's basically multiplayer WarioWare in the arcade. I played through this with a buddy at an arcade a few months ago, and it was a super fun and stupid time. Look it up online, it's great.
Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (Arcade) 11/21
Not to be confused with the Moonwalker we got on Genesis, this is the isometric Arcade version of the game. You play as Michael Jackson, running around and killing enemies with your sick dance moves. The point of the game is toabduct rescue little boys in each level. For real. It's kind of fun, and it's obviously got a great soundtrack. Play this one with a couple friends and couple drinks.
Captain America and the Avengers (Arcade) 11/21
The classic arcade beat-em-up. It plays similar to the Xmen arcade game everyone knows, and it's a blast. Gameplay is on point, and the enemies never get stale. Boss battles are super fun. This is a great multiplayer beat-em-up for sure.
Earthion (Gen) 12/4
Earthion is a brand new Sega Genesis horizontal shmup by the legendary Yuzo Koshiro. This IMMEDIATELY shot up into my top 3 shmups on the Genesis, easily. The soundtrack is awesome, the visuals are truly INSANE for a Genesis game, and the pacing is great overall. There are some crazy difficulty spikes, but that's to be expected with a Genesis shmup. I love this game so much, and playing it on original hardware was SUCH a treat! Crazy to get a game like this in 2025.

I played through all of the cups in standard and knockout mode. I love this game, and while I get the hate for the open world design, I personally think it's great. I just wish there was a Classic Cup mode where you could do standard 3-lap races. Also, this game easily has the greatest soundtrack of the year for me. It has like over 300 songs or something insane like that, and it's mostly all jazz fusion, which is MY SHIT BABY.
Mortal Kombat 2 (Kollection/Arcade)
Played a bunch of this with some friends in the new MK Kollection and on an actual arcade machine, and ran through arcade mode a handful of times. Most of my experience with MK2 was on the Genesis, so it was fun playing through the OG arcade version.

Asteroids (Arcade)
I spent a couple hours playing through the original Asteroids arcade machine, which really just means going for high scores. It's not a great game by today's standards, but it's classic. Plus, it uses those crazy vector CRT screens that are insanely bright, which is just a display type that you never get to see anymore.
Donkey Kong (Arcade)
I love the original Donkey Kong arcade game. In fact, it might be my favorite arcade game. I point-pressed for a few hours at an arcade a few months ago, until I got the top score on the leaderboard. Love this game.
Tron (Arcade)
If Donkey Kong is my favorite arcade game, Tron might be my second favorite. Look, I know this game isn't objectively good, but I love the movie so much, and I've spent so much time with the arcade game. And there's nothing else really like it, especially with its flight stick + spinner wheel control setup. It makes this game almost impossible to properly emulate at home, which is why I enjoy playing it in the arcade so much.
Lethal Enforcers (Arcade)
This is an early light gun shooter made up of a bunch of little challenges. It's fun for a while, but nothing super special.
Space Shuttle (Williams Pinball)
Yep, I'm doing pinball reviews now. I played a bunch of pins this year, so I won't list them all, but I'll at least mark two down. Space Shuttle is one of my favorite pinball games, mostly because of the time I've spent with it. I originally played this when I visited a well-known gaming journalist in his home probably 15 years ago and he had this pinball machine. It's been one of my favorites ever since.
Super Mario World Mushroom World (Gottlieb Pinball)
This is a weird one. I played it for the first time probably 10-15 years ago, but only for a few rounds. But I recently went to an arcade that had this pin, and finally got to sink some time into it. It's a short pinball board, so it played a lot differently than a normal machine. But it's really fun, and the Mario theming is awesome. There are even LCD challenges (like platforming over pits) that you have to do throughout the run.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature of the Krusty Krab (GBA/AP) 1/8
I don't remember what possessed me to play this game, but frankly, it wasn't bad at all! It's a short little platformer with a ton of gimmicked sections. It feels right at home as an IP game that would have been on the SNES. Great sprites and overall visuals.
Astro Boy (GBA/M) 1/12
This game is awesome if you haven't played it before. It's made by Treasure, and it's a platformer beat-em-up, in the same vein as Gunstar Heroes. If you're a fan of Gunstar, this is definitely worth a playthrough!
Monkey Ball (Arcade) 1/23
This is the original "Super Monkey Ball" game, which debuted in 2001 before the GameCube version. It uses Sega's NAOMI arcade hardware, and features a giant banana arcade stick. This is exactly what you think it is, and it's excellent. I spent a few hours quarter-feeding my way through all of the levels, and it was an absolute joy.
Line Wobbler (Indie Arcade) 1/24
This one isn't a standard "video game" per se, but an experimental indie game. This was a game featured in the Indie Arcade at MAGFest, and it features a very long LED light strip, where you have to time your button presses to a cluster of lights going through the strip. It's surprising how deep the game gets, given that you only have one button and one linear LED light strip, and it's really hard to explain, but here's a video. I genuinely had a blast playing through this, and award it some extra points for how creative it is.
Sega Rally Championship (Saturn) 1/29
What can I say? This game is a damn classic. It would score higher if I had the nostalgia that some have for it, or if it had more tracks. But this game is THE rally game for a reason. I have a hard time "only" giving it a 7, since I know that this game was a 9 when it came out. But it's peak Saturn, and absolutely worth your time.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii) 1/31
/I hover between an 8 and a 9 for this game. I fucking LOVE Mario games, and so playing through this is always such a joy. But I acknowledge that it doesn't have the staying power of some of the other 2D Mario games. Still, it's basically a perfect platformer in terms of gameplay. It suffers a bit in terms of level design, since it's designed for 1-4 players, so the levels never feel as tight as some other Mario games. Still, such an excellent game.

Under Defeat (Switch) 2/26
First off, it's hard to score shmups. I LOVE shmups, but I also recognize they might not have the pedigree that some of the other games on this list do. But it's my list, and my ranking, so whatever. Under Defeat is an awesome mid-2000s shmup, much in the Toaplan style. It's a top-down 3D shmup, with excellent pacing, memorable bosses, and enough gameplay diversity to keep it interesting throughout the whole game. Super fun.
Star of Providence (Switch) 3/4
This is that game published by Dunkey's BIG MODE company, and it fuckin RULES. It's a roguelike shmup, similar in concept to something like The Binding of Isaac, except with the action and difficulty pumped way past 11. This game just keeps on giving, and it keeps on beating your ass. Just when you overcome a wall, you realize there's another one twice as high waiting for you. The actual shmup gameplay (which is twin-stick style) is perfect, and balancing your bombs and weaponry keeps the game strategic. PLAY THIS GAME!
Mega Man X (SNES) 3/28
Easily one of my favorite Mega Man games, and probably my favorite from the X series. What else do I have to say about this?
Spaceplan (iOS) 4/30
This is a "clicker/idle" game on iOS, published by Devolver. I don't remember too much about it, but it was fun enough to beat.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (PC) 5/3
This is my Game Of The Year, and I'll spare you the review. All I'll say is that I famously hate JRPGs, and yet I somehow LOVED this game.
The Untouchables (SNES) 5/12
I played this game as a joke, and it was dogshit. But I forced myself to play all the way through. It's bad lol.
DOOM: Dark Ages (PC) 5/31
I had a great time with Dark Ages. It's probably the weakest of the 3 for me. Or maybe it's tied with Eternal? I loved the gameplay, and I appreciated how much you could tweak your experience. But nothing beats DOOM 2016.
Lion King 1 1/2 (GBA) 7/13
I randomly rolled this game and actually stuck with it enough to beat it. There's basically nothing redeeming about this game. I'm now realizing that I give too high of scores overall, cause this game was a turd lol.
Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo (NS2) 7/13
BIGGEST SLEEPER OF 2025 EASILY. This game is a top-down Zelda-like with incredible gameplay, and absolutely genius puzzles. It's got a bit of Metroidvania in it as well, with how it progresses. Check out this thread on GAF to learn more. You didn't play this game, but you SHOULD HAVE.
Ben Jordan Paranormal Investigator (PC) 8/15
I played this dumb game at a friend's house. It's a bad-yet-good point-and-click adventure, and I'm pretty sure it was made by one guy. It's a hilarious drunken playthrough with friends, but do I recommend it overall? Probably not.
Super Ghouls and Ghosts (SNES) 8/17
This game SUCKS. UGH. For those who don't know, you need to beat this game twice in a row in order to actually beat it. I beat the first loop surprisingly easily, and kind of felt like a gaming god. And I even got to the end of the second loop quickly, as well. Then you get to the REAL final stage with the REAL final boss, and this easily took me more time to beat than the entire rest of the game combined. Probably times 2. I hated the final boss of this game SO much, especially because you're forced to use a dogshit weapon in order to actually get to the final boss. It makes the whole experience suck wet farts. That being said, the other 95% of the game is just incredible.
Donkey Kong Bananza (NS2) 8/21
This game was a joy from start to finish. It never hits the heights of something like Odyssey, but blasting through terrain really scratches an itch I didn't know I had. You all know enough about this game by now, though.
Balatro (NS2) 8/28
Another game that you know enough about. This game is absolute CRACK. I finally beat all of the colors on one of the decks, which is what I'm considering "beating" the game, even though I'm nowhere close to 100%ing it.
Hollow Knight: Silksong (NS2) 9/23
I loved Silksong, but it's filled with bullshit. The gameplay is second-to-none. The visuals, atmosphere, music, map layout, and everything is just top-notch. But there's just so much bullshit that they should have balanced or should straight-up removed. Like all of those enemy gauntlets, especially the ones prior to bosses. Plus some of the bosses were designed not to just be difficult, but to be unfair. Also, I'll never forgive Team Cherry for once again making your waste an equip slot on SEEING YOUR POSITION ON THE FUCKING MAP. Still, the game is pretty close to a masterpiece.
Hades 2 (NS2) 10/15
Now this game IS a Masterpiece, and probably my #2 game of the year. I'm sure you guys already know enough about it, but I truly don't see how they could have improved this game in any way. Yes, it's kind of just "More Hades", but it's also SO much more than just "more". Incredible game that everyone needs to play.

DoDonPachi DaiOuJou (iOS) 11/15
This classic CAVE shmup was ported to the iPhone probably about 10 years ago, and it's still ridiculously fun. I'd probably give the arcade version a 9, but I'll have to give the iOS version an 8, just because of how much easier the game is when you can control the ship via touch screen. It makes you feel like an absolute god, though.
Mortal Kombat (GB) 11/17
This is the Game Boy port of Mortal Kombat 1, and it's SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT. It wasn't fun to play through even as a joke.
Rose & Camellia (NS)
This hilariously stupid game is a story-driven slap-em-up. Basically, you play a debutant who wants to inherit the estate of your dead husband, but you have to SLAP your way through your foes in 1v1 slap-off mini game challenges. I laughed so hard at this game. Does it actually deserve a 7? Probably not. But it was too hilarious for me to review it any lower. You should check this game out.
Super Mario Land (AP/GB)
One of my favorite Mario games, even if my judgment is clouded through nostalgia. Bangin' soundtrack, though.
Bishi Bashi Channel (Arcade) 11/21
If you've never played this game, it's basically multiplayer WarioWare in the arcade. I played through this with a buddy at an arcade a few months ago, and it was a super fun and stupid time. Look it up online, it's great.

The classic arcade beat-em-up. It plays similar to the Xmen arcade game everyone knows, and it's a blast. Gameplay is on point, and the enemies never get stale. Boss battles are super fun. This is a great multiplayer beat-em-up for sure.
Earthion (Gen) 12/4
Earthion is a brand new Sega Genesis horizontal shmup by the legendary Yuzo Koshiro. This IMMEDIATELY shot up into my top 3 shmups on the Genesis, easily. The soundtrack is awesome, the visuals are truly INSANE for a Genesis game, and the pacing is great overall. There are some crazy difficulty spikes, but that's to be expected with a Genesis shmup. I love this game so much, and playing it on original hardware was SUCH a treat! Crazy to get a game like this in 2025.
