Girl Racer

Interesting I think f1 would like that she is light but I do not know that she would have the strength to hold a car for a race.

The headline is a bit of clickbait, she's not aiming for "F1 top spot", she wants to win the "F1 Academy", which is a female only competition and feeds to F3 and F2; it's not "F1" itself.

Wow that article takes a giant leap.

First she's got to prove she can compete at a higher level. F1 Academy isn't really a show case of that. She's gonna have to prove she can beat the likes of Marta Garcia, Abbi Pulling and Dorian Pin, and if she can then she makes it to the bottom rung of a tall ladder.

Take Abbi for example, she won F1 Academy then went into GB3 getting zero wins. Not exactly the type you'd expect to be conquering Verstappen next.

Saying that, F1 is a changeable sport, maybe in the future when each team is a nepo outfit and all the drivers are Lance Strolls, maybe Maisy will have a good shot.

Well, she's probably gonna nab a bunch of sponsorships regardless of her future success. I'm sure there are reasons why women aren't anywhere near the top of this sport and maybe F1 academy can find and address them.

Reaction time, faster impulsive decision making (especially under stress) and strength favor men over women.

Probably not too many men out there with the skills and body to reach the top of the sport.

It's physically punishing.

I'm going to guess that there are many fewer women with the physical apparatus to match or beat that. It's a game of numbers. Certainly not saying zero women in the world, but fewer than men.

In the more like this section there are 4 other stories about kids who do karting wanting to be in F1 or other motorsports. It's like any kid who wins a tennis tournament is obviously going to say they want to play at Wimbledon or whatever. A tiny fraction of them will ever achieve it.

My understanding is that women handle g forces better than men. I don't know if it's a significant amount, especially at the upper limit of the bell curve like these folks would be.

You understood wrong or it was misinformation.

No, women don't inherently handle G-forces better than men, though research shows similar tolerance levels when factors like height are equal; some studies found slight female advantages due to shorter stature (less blood pooling), while others show males might have an edge in straining maneuvers due to core strength, but proper G-suits and training largely equalize performance. Ultimately, individual fitness, body size, training, and equipment matter more than gender.

With that said, it will then come down to what I posted above.

It will then come down to reaction time, strength (especially under high G), and quicker impulse decisions yielding a higher reward as an outcome.

I think the headline is based on this quote:

"I have the passion and desire to reach for the very top of this amazing sport that I love," she smiled.

"I can't wait to experience the journey over the next five years."

Is there an age limit? In the future can the youngest driver be 10? I think girls mature quicker

I'm forgetting now what the age is for getting a Super License. I know there were some recent changes in order to get Kimi one which I think was when he was 17.

Max Verstappen made his F1 debut at 17, though the rules changed after him IIRC.

Basically, she's got a few months to get ready to step up to the top.

We constantly see these experiments crash and burn in circuit racing. This will be another.

The Iron Dames have been pretty successful in WEC, they managed a 4th place in Le Mans in 2023 which is no small feat, 5th in 2024, 2025 was a bit of a bust though. I find myself rooting for them more and more each year simply because it's fun to watch them shut up people shit talking them online.
While the odds will always be in men's favour, there absolutely is a place for women in motorsports

I will admit that the F1 academy is a sham though. My theory is that the women in there got into the academy based on their looks and connections, not their skills. But I have nothing to back that up.
