Arc Raiders |OT| Gaming's Next Mario 64 Moment™

I've gotten pooped on enough that I no longer think anyone is a friendly. Ever. You save me? Cool… the second I think I can shit on you I will because I assume you're doing the same.

No surrender. Death to the sunflower hippy social sim players.
Even during my passive arc of my new character development I will still shoot players who constantly follow me around or loot where I am looting. Fuck off. Get your own room!

What a fucking game this. Played it from a month and a half straight but right now I can't bother with it

Exploits left and right. People abusing the hell out of them and it isn't fun at all. I'll be back when they fix this shitshow

Me and a mate were killed by invisible players last night on Space Port, our first encounter with cheaters. At first they were visible from a decent distance in the open field, they said "don't shoot", and then within the blink of an eye we were being shot at point blank range and they were invisible. They only appeared again once we were downed, it all happened so fast there was no time to even think about reacting. Lost my upgraded bobcat and anvil, hoping I might yet have them returned to me after we both reported the player names.

Of all things, its a scourge of cheating that can in the end bring down a good game. Maybe Embark should have gone kernel, because I hear the solution they implemented is known to be inadequate.

Problem with the game being so popular, always attracts the scum. No system can combat a determined cheater.

Thankfully think ive only been a victim a couple of times that I know of. Hopefully they can get on top of it because like you say can ruin a game in the long run.

Yes, I am. My biggest issue is that the loot that's important is being looted because streamers are putting out fast route to loot videos. That means unless you spawn in on the thirty minute beside the loot locations then there's no point.
The game has the best start ever but personally I'm ready for Marathon now and I'll just be jumping in to experience any events that come up.

I personally like their current system. Players with expensive kits should always feel vulnerable to the entire lobby. I played Fortnite for 6 years and the gold SCAR required one less bullet to knock someone than the green (common) SCAR and people still behaved irrationally to grab the gold version.

Vertical (power) progression should be kept to a minimum while horizontal progression (new experiences) should be expanded upon as much as possible.

This isn't the case most of the in PVP lobbies in my experience and if you do arrive late just tax someone else for the loot.

PVE lobbies forget it, those cunts are professional looters you'll be lucky to find a used tampon if you turn up late.

Man their skins are so bad. Even in The Finals they had the the most artless cookie cutter shit imaginable. Stuff that looked like it came straight out of some random AI/Second Life game.

Embark are an amazing dev team but their character artists need to go lol. Reeks of generic and inoffensive corporate mandated slop, really.

I want Hunt Showdown type skins.

Give me a raider with a hooded and tattered rain coat. Make him look like a wild west gunslinger but post-apocalyptic. It's not that hard.

It just ruins everything - easy ways to kill X or y, how to solve this puzzle, etc. all the way up to how to camp and hide at an extract.

A guy in a game I was playing was trying to work out how to get into a camping spot on Stella Montis. I asked him what he was doing and he said he'd seen it on YouTube. I would have killed him on the spot, but I was on a naked run with no shield.

Just hit me up with some Mad Max or Terminator skins shit is free cash money right there.

The Finals has the best cosmetics in the industry.

I can't defend ARC Raiders cosmetics. Really feels like they're leaving money on the table by not releasing expensive, good looking skins. Would be interesting hearing the conversations at Embark right now.

Nah The Finals has some nice visual aesthetics as far as the world goes but the characters themselves might as well be Sims cosplaying as "swat guy" or "ballet dancer". It's really the most generic slop imaginable.

Say what you will about CoD's (own) outlandish Blackcell skins but at least they have some art and 'oomph' to them.

You are wrong on the internet. That is never good.

I challenge you to a skin off. The Finals vs CoD. Loser must reevaluate their life and seek to understand why their taste has eroded to such embarrassing degree.

One of the best gaming experiences I've ever had.

Marathon will best it for me personally from what I've played. Exciting times.
I'm honestly at this point.

If spacetime is a flat circle (and it is), then Mario 64 had an ARC Raiders like moment in 1996. For how underbaked ARC Raiders is right now, this really marks a transformative moment in games.

Just boring isn't it.like I get the concept and the idea is great but I think it got too big for its own good. Kind of drives the natural growth of it artificially up.

I played the Marathon alpha it was actually surprisingl good.

But in general I find this whole hype circle around a game where all big streamers obsessed over it and no life it kind of exhausting like its supposed to make you feel like you should be playing it all the time but in reality the gameplay loop is good for a few hours but then gets quite pointless and endless.

What is even happening in the game right now? Is it just an endless grind to get better guns or is there a sort of over arching story or goal like Helldivers?

Are we entering what I predicted will happen weeks ago? Honeymoon phase is over or beginning to?

I gave up on this current event at 12000 points. Haven't played in well over a week?

Game is a dead affair to me. Reset didn't fix me wanting to play.

No carrot
Trials is a joke
Now lots of cheaters
Loot is abysmal
Solo experience is meh
PvP is unbalanced AF
No content after 50-75 hours

That's a wrap. Marathon can't come soon enough.

There's nothing. The game is aimless in its current state. Even their skins are meh so they can't funnel money lol. No paid season passes. Hell this new free one I didn't have to earn a single blue coin. I had almost 2000 so I instantly bought it all and still had plenty left over.

No goal. Just have fun. Its a great sandbox.

Disagree (but not with all your points).

It's casual as fuck but thats ok.

Make your own fun. Not everyone needs an goal to work towards.

You're mistaken.

You posted this because you yearn for more, not because the game is dead to you. ARC Raiders is the girl you're smitten with that won't call you back. You'll be in the next roadmap thread in the same way the sun will rise tomorrow.

It's truly GOATed when it can get players to do this.

Finally going to dig into this game after loving the betas but getting distracted by Battlefield. Sounds like best way to progress quests is solo queue and not taking too many fights?

Best way to progress is just play the game however you like. There isn't really any progression as such. You just gain the ability to craft stuff and slide a bit further.

Just go out and have fun, whichever way floats your boat.

You just played too much, and this game is not even 6 months old. But yes it has some problemes, but i am still playing it.

*shrug* I only have 100 hours on it since release.

For a MP focused title that's light. For example in the same amount of time I probably racked up 300 hours in marvel rivals on release.

We are all headed to the same destination. It just took me 70 hours to get there and quicker than most.

Unless they figure out a real funnel for content worth coming back to that keeps the game fresh, then once marathon it's this game could be entirely abandoned by me and maybe others too if marathon isn't a bomb.

I've seen a bunch of videos of Arc Raiders and have wondered how people have actually aimed at someone when I can't even discern that a player is there.

Is the burnt peanut using some sort of cheat system here? How does he know that there's someone to shoot?

At 4.16 can you tell that there's a player there? He can and damages a player's shield. To me, there's no evidence that a player is there other than a team mate saying there's someone there.

Being charitable, you could say it's a speculative shot, but this isn't the only time I've seen this sort of thing.

Or am I missing clues and cues that should tip me off?

I sometimes stream myself and my output on OBS are far different from what my monitor shows. I recently calibrated HDR on my monitor to be able to see better in darkness, but on my stream it's still too dark to see enemies in some places.

This will need further research but I turned on VRR and unsupported games on my PS5 Pro and played five matches and didn't get one single screen tear.
I'll play tomorrow and see if I see any but before I never used VRR and would get at least one screen tear a game.
Anyone else notice this?

Been playing this way on Pro for a while and it still tears occasionally.

This is a PVP game now, I'm usually friendly but last five games tonight I was taken out by PVP solo players.
My attitude now needs to change and start bringing a Toro in with me.

You should ask the mods to change your tag to Fifth.

Some interesting titbits.

2 weeks to make a playable map, 6 months before its game ready.

Maps are based off real world locations from google maps.

ABMM confirmed if you didn't think it was real. SBMM is also in.

Team only is 80-90 people for most of development. Peaked at 120 ish to get the game out.

Multiple offers from TV companies for a series.

Article to go along with the interview: https://gamesbeat.com/inside-arc-ra...oderlund-and-owen-mahoney-while-playing-live/

Do people really need more maps? One map a year is plenty if they want to do that but adding more places to fight the same bots and loot the same flashlights ain't it.

I'd like more maps. We want completely different things from the game though. I only fight bots when I want to attract players or if i have to and only loot mats to build guns.

I have 400 hours in the game now with my group and im still not bored of just fucking around.

I suppose I'm not the long term audience or perhaps it just isn't as satisfying in solos but then again most MP games aren't.

Maybe down the line they add the carrot my objective focused ass needs to keep playing a game.

Yeah, doubt I'd still be playing solo. I only solo when I'm low on gear. Playing with my brother and his pal gets expensive when the lobby is like apocalypse now and they are looking for plastic bottles.

Never gets old how pissed people get when you delete them in this game.

I loved back in Xbox 360 playing gears of war for thousands of hours for that specific reason. Downing someone then banging their body, only to get rage messages and end of game lobby flaming.

Making grown adults miserable was hilarious.

It's what keeps us coming back.

Don't shoot! Yeah watch this then lol. Que tubs of glorious salt.

Mainly play Stella Montis as this usually happens within 30 seconds of a match starting.

The actual 1v1 PVP in this game isn't that great but when in a team the back and forth can be very fun with all the gadgets and the PVE chucked in as well.
