Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined getting a demo on 1/7 for all platforms. Progress carries over.

Eagerly awaiting your impressions and how long it took for you to beat the demo.

So far I've read here:
-Terrible depth of field
-Little voice acting
I'd LOVE to share but as it seems, people will have finished the full release game before Steam gets the demo. What the heck

Downloaded it and put about an hour into it. It looks and plays well on PS5. The environments sometimes feel like handcrafted dioramas, very Fantasian, which I love. Not much else to say at this point really, it's DQ7, just looks better than it ever has.

This must mean they've streamlined it a lot, especially the start.

Because if I was given the first 8 hours of the original DQVII for free, I would have been unlikely to buy the rest of the game.

Oh my god!!!

11 hours of focusing on the most important part... And this is just one of seven videos still to come 😰

Does this game still have the level cap system where you stop gaining job XP if your character level is too high for the area?

Looking forward to playing this later. DQVII is far from my favorite DQ but Square-Enix already made my least-favorite DQ (2) way better a few months ago, so I'm eager to see how they polished this one up.

Put me firmly in the camp that loves the visuals too. Except for the censorship.

If it is Unreal Engine 5, you might be able to disable DoF in the config files. That's also how I disabled DoF and set the rendering resolution in borderless window mode higher than 1080p in the DQ3 HD-2D and DQ1&2 HD-2D Remakes, which also use Unreal Engine.

Finally got to the end of the demo om sw1 just shy of 5 hours, it ends not long after you return back to the castle after the first island and return to the shrine but it's a nice enough sized chunk to know that i loved playing. As someone who is totally new to 7 i have no preconceptions, liking the story so far, the monster battle animations are so lush they feel like the ones in DQ11 packed with detail.

I'm a console bro.

Is the combat in this round based? Because that might make it more interesting for me as I love Bravely's round based combat.

Well after trying both the Switch 1 and Switch 2 demos, I think I'll be safe with getting the Switch 1 version to avoid the game key card. I could not spot a difference at all early in the game between the 2 version. MAYBE a higher framerate on Switch 2, but couldn't tell. I'm honestly surprised how little the difference is. I thought maybe they'd be a noticeable bump in resolution and image quality, or high quality looking textures or even noticeable bump in framerate on Switch 2, but could not spot a difference even when snapping screenshots and videos to compare.

Kinda surprising because even with the Dragon Quest HD-2D, I could notice the bump in framerate at least.

I don't usually do this, but what the fuck is this post? The Switch version is 720/30 at best and the Switch 2 version is 1080p (possibly higher) 60fps. It's not "maybe" a higher frame rate, it's literally double the frame rate locked.

There's a drastic visual and performance difference between both version. It's a literal generational jump in resolution and frame rate.

This post is this: My eyes couldn't detect a fucking difference. Better for you?

Man, i want to love this. The game oozes cozy charm. BUT, it is too damn slow getting going. Like REALLY S-L-O-W! I thought they were streamlining this game?

Wonder if Square censored or DEI'd anything in the game compared to the PS1 version and the 3DS Demake
They toned down the design of a female character. You can check it out in post #82 itt.

I love DQ7 but it is a fucking beast, Having played through it twice on PS1 and the 3DS remake once I cannot fathom putting more time into it.

Thanks for letting me know, will check it out. My comment was sort of made in jest, but it sucks that it's true.

Edit: I checked it out, my only question is WHY would Square do this? Appeal to who or what by doing this?

That music brings back so many nightmares, countless hours of grinding just for my mom to sell my ps2 with all my games for 50€ while I was away...

Why does Japan get all the cool shit

Because videogames are fully ingrained in their culture which is why they have a real world dragon quest island theme park and a metric ton or merch events & goods. Not just for DQ but for a ungoldy amount of game ips.

In the west you get token efforts at best if you are lucky.

Why does Japan get all the cool shit

Would trade the crazy commercials and weird food gimmicks in exchange for having their cheap food made with high quality ingredients. Hitting the local (USA) McDonalds after coming back from Japan, and it was crazy how much worse it was while being 3x the price.

Like could you turn up the battle speed? I do that with most JRPGs if they give me the option.
I understand and appreciate that. My fear is it is wordy and I am feeling that it won't be as streamlined as I was looking for. RPG's over 35-ish hours are a "no-go" today for me. Except for Persona.

I wait for the reviews, but I am guessing this "Streamlining" is still a 50-60 hr game. Which is a great improvement from the original, but still not far enough.

But I feel like they could streamline most if not all RPG's and have an optional postgame that could lengthen the game.

Love the demo so far. Really looking forward to the full game. Some very initial impressions.

PC:
+Uncapped FPS.
-No ultrawide support, though I'm sure it will be quickly modded by the community.
-FXAA is the only AA option. Can DSR with a decent enough GPU.

Switch 2:
+Plays well and looks good enough.
-Looks like it's also using FXAA based on image quality.
-No option to disable Bloom.

Leaning towards Switch 2 at the moment.

I bought DQ 1, 2 and 3 and haven't started them yet. Got the demo though. I'll pick this up on a deep discount. Still gotta get Octopath 0 also. And I bought FFVII R's Xbox port. They're definitely cranking out games.
Exactly, I just finished E33. I love RPGs, but man I get exhausted after finishing one these days.

Switch 1 vs Switch 2 comparisons

I'm irrationally angry at SE for putting this on a keycard for Switch 2.

Going to try it now, reminds me of Blue Dragon on the 360. I have no connection to the game, but am hoping its good. I really enjoyed DQ11.

Ran about a bit and it seems ok. The world map destinations felt so much closer than other games, which I'm not complaining about, was just unusual to reach the map marker in seconds.
Graphics are grand, not exactly how I thought they would look, but not bad.

No 32:9 support and resolution is lower than my monitor, but the other games I played were the same and a mod was released quite quickly, so here's hoping that's the case here. I will buy at a lower price, £50 is a bit much directly on Steam. CDkeys hasn't got it up yet, so will be waiting regardless.

Its crazy how much Dragon quest is big in japan...they even did an ad with mcdonalds...it tells a lot.
I'm not sure if its this way anymore, but for a long time, Dragon Quest games were only released on the weekends in Japan, because if they released during the week, too many people would take off work and school to play them.

Edit: Pre-ordered the Deluxe version on Steam.
