Wife just sent me a Steam gift card for an early birthday gift to pick up the Deluxe Edition.
I'm so ready for this game.
I'm so ready for this game.
I'm irrationally angry at SE for putting this on a keycard for Switch 2.
I don't usually do this, but what the fuck is this post? The Switch version is 720/30 at best and the Switch 2 version is 1080p (possibly higher) 60fps. It's not "maybe" a higher frame rate, it's literally double the frame rate locked.
There's a drastic visual and performance difference between both version. It's a literal generational jump in resolution and frame rate.
I hope not another type a and type b selection of character instead of male and female. But im not sure if this game is just one character male as a choice. I havent played this game yet even the OG.Afraid so, yeah. It's not as ridiculous as what they did for the warrior in III, but it's there.

Makes me wonder what else they might have changed.
This game has fixed party members, you don't create your own character.I hope not another type a and type b selection of character instead of male and female. But im not sure if this game is just one character male as a choice. I havent played this game yet even the OG.
No worries, you play as a boy.I hope not another type a and type b selection of character instead of male and female. But im not sure if this game is just one character male as a choice. I havent played this game yet even the OG.
Kind of curious how this would run on Switch 1 with SaltyNX and FPSLocker.Yup they successfully talked me out of buying the sw 2 version. Oh well.
Thats good. No issues. I only played one DQ game and that's DQ8 for Ps2. I hope they remake DQ8. DQ8 has a bigger world. No worries, you play as a boy.
How dare you assume his/her/its/uou genderNo worries, you play as a boy.
DQ8 was great, but DQ7 is definitely the bigger and longer game, unless they have cut large portions of the game for the remake.Thats good. No issues. I only played one DQ game and that's DQ8 for Ps2. I hope they remake DQ8. DQ8 has a bigger world.

DQ8 was my last DQ. I enjoyed it but it is a total grind to complete all the weapons, secrets, etc. Backlogs also prevented me to buy the other sequels. I might buy DS7 reimagined and I might look into DQ11.You need to get on DQ11S ASAP.
Well said and I agree!DQVII is basically the perfect Dragon Quest game. It's back to AAA-Dragon Quest (nothing against I/II & III ofc), but I've really missed the high budget style of VIII, XI etc. Insane production values and the game is so fun.
Pretty sure you just need to play it.So do I have to finish the demo to get Maribel's demo costume in the full game or just start the demo? I'd rather play when the whole game comes out but I want the cool outfit too.
I am sure IX has great production value as well, perhaps the biggest production budget for nintendo handheld jrpg in that era. The DS really hold it back graphically, but fully 3D Dragon quest on that system still feels like magic.DQVII is basically the perfect Dragon Quest game. Switch 1 vs Switch 2 comparisons

It's probably the next one in the line for the 3D remakes.Thats good. No issues. I only played one DQ game and that's DQ8 for Ps2. I hope they remake DQ8. DQ8 has a bigger world.
What are you guys talking about switch 2 isn't 720 30 fps.
Did you guys download the switch 1 version by mistake?![]()
ehh
The visual style is OK, but not as impressive as I was hoping. You play from a zoomed out perspective where you don't see much detail. The interiors are all these plain, ugly rectangular rooms with copy/pasted furniture and flat lighting.
That while "old school 16-bit tile-based graphics…but in 3D" aesthetic is starting to feel so played out for me.
I think even the 3DS version had more charm and visual appeal despite being on much weaker hardware. Here are some examples I stole from the Steam forums:

Fair enough if its deliberate pacing isn't your thing, but I've got to take exception with the dialogue comment. I think DQ's dialogue is honestly the best in the business. It's packed with personality, region-accurate dialects and turns of phrase, and well-used literary techniques (alliteration, metaphors, gimmicks like talking in rhyme or haiku) that you rarely see in other games. Besides their recent weird insistence on the singular "they" in some instances where it doesn't make sense, I wouldn't change a thing about the writing on a macro level. It's superb and makes me want to talk to all the NPCs.Played the demo on PS5 for an hour.
Plays like a dream and looks very good, definitely better that the 2D HD remakes. Music Is amazing.
Still, DQ is too damn classic for me. I buy most of them but barely play 1/4to 1/3 of the games. Plot, combat system, characters, dialogue, fanfare of menus, childish look of the enemies, everything is so backwards and classic, like something of the 80s or early 90s..at least this one design is a bit more modern than the HD 2D remakes, but the games seem as time capsules now...
Thought the same, but I was already complaining about censorship and didn't want to complain ever more about the visuals.ehh

the 3DS version was already pretty modernDQVII Reimagined is everything I ever wanted from this game. The scale, the slow burn, the mystery of the islands, all wrapped in modern presentation. It's exactly the game everyone deserves to play today in modern age where everything is just so damn fast (instant gratification).
Even without Toriyama and Sugiyama with us anymore, their soul is unmistakably here. The art, the melodies, the tone. This feels like Dragon Quest carrying their spirit forward rather than trying to replace it. DQVII Reimagined feels like the AAA Dragon Quest I have been waiting for since XI. And to be clear, this is not a knock on I&II or III HD. Those are great. This just hits on a completely different level.
Arsic I love it.

bro, how old are you, really? If you think 3DS is "pretty modern", then all hope is lostthe 3DS version was already pretty modern
Not follow here. I played 3DS version and it was great.bro, how old are you, really? If you think 3DS is "pretty modern", then all hope is lost

Yeah it's a real bummer. They obviously put a lot of work into all the models, but it's so let down by the ugly sterile flat lighting and zoomed out camera.Thought the same, but I was already complaining about censorship and didn't want to complain ever more about the visuals.
But yeah when compared to the 3DS version it looks kinda dull. Still cool that this remake exists for game preservation and all that, but I think I'll stick to the 3DS version unless I read about the remake improving on major aspects of the game.
I wonder if that might be the kind of thing that one can fix via mods or ENBs.Yeah it's a real bummer. They obviously put a lot of work into all the models, but it's so let down by the ugly sterile flat lighting and zoomed out camera.
I keep reading praises for Star Ocean: Second Story R. Scenarios look better indeed but the clash between 2D sprites and all that cool 3D is a bit too much for me, but maybe I could get used to it. How's the game? I think the only Star Ocean game I've ever played is the first one for the SNES.I really wanted to start this game and be like "holy shit, now this is what a Chrono Trigger remake should look like" but I'm not all that impressed. I still think Star Ocean: Second Story R did the "updated retro graphics" thing much better.
