This is a clusterfuck...Well, BD2 devs made an emergency dev note addressing the livestream and censorship:
Quoting for length, but you can also view it directly on their site:
https://www.browndust2.com/en-us/news/view?id=10070
So TL;DR according to them, the reason for the censorship was that certain regions were planning on blackballing the game, not an attempt to try to get on Steam. Most of the changes were done because of loli designs (as expected) and because some things were 'abusive" or 'fearful' towards (virtual) women (pixels). They also talk about how the Liberta interactive skin was canned because it was too lewd even for them, so they took out the interactive elements and just made it an alt look. But now that they got shit for it, they're going to remake it but less lewd.
Doesn't sound good to me anyways, but they're offering a bunch of compensation (useless since the game is already very f2p friendly).
This doesn't really change my mind on anything, but it's nice that they didn't wait and let it fester over the weekend to handle it on Monday. What say you guys,Angry_Megalodon
Aenima ?
As i mentioned before, i dont have a problem with the lolis being redesigned or have they cutscenes changed, i dont like lolis, i dont mind them in the game but i know they are always problematic when you put them in a game that is focusing in fanservice. During the livestream the big red flag was when they told they wanted to level down the game nudity as a side effect of the game gaining popularity. I knew they just shot themselves in the foot.
Now they are removing the Slap Pop minigame because it can be seen as "abusive". If a rythm game where you playfully slap girls ass to stay in rythm is abusive then the Elise interaction scene is gonna be removed as well cuz that interaction scene show much more abuse with the BDSM theme where you can whip the girl ass countless times . What about Bunny Loen being shocked? (Hasan would be proud) Thers also a Sherazad illustration from the Goblin Slayer collab that can also be seen as abusive, and much more.
Right now as i see it, the game will be toned down to avoid possible censorships, and nothing is really safe from censorship, so instead of having the creative freedom they used to have, they now following guidelines. I understand that at the end of the day they are a studio trying to make more money, but once you start censoring the things that made your game feel unique in a flood of generic gacha games, you risk making your game feel generic as well.
Maybe its all too fresh, but the fanbase is furious about this. I only play 2 gacha games, Brown Dust 2 and Nikke, so im going down with this ship. It just sucks to see the ship is already letting water in.
