The world still needs a Dead Space 2 remake

Been doing a whole cornucopia nostalgia overload lately and just got to DS2 through the Series S with that HDR and FPS boost. The real reason to own these systems are for the old games hands down.

For one, while I'm still at the beginning the game still looks great. It's such a "just right" type of sequel. An interesting new environment to explore, new weapons, some new enemy types. Actual bosses. Cool new ideas like blowing out the glass into space and then having to timely get the shutters closed, the little baby necros where you had to be ultra precise so they wouldn't explode too bad…

Gunner Wright does an excellent job finally giving Isaac a voice with impactful delivery that beats the shit out of his performance in the remake.

What were some of your favorite moments? What's your loadout of choice? And more importantly, how in the fuck can Motive scrape up some cash to give us the remake sequel we deserve?

I like it a lot more than the first. Dead Space is a good game, but I don't hold it in the absolute highest regard. The environments and scenarios get a bit repetitive, and the whole "obviously dead girlfriend" narrative is too goofy for me. Dead Space 2 is a little more streamlined and linear, but it doesn't sacrifice anything of what made the first good, and adds so much more variety, crazy setpieces, always propelling the player forward into the next thing and maintaining a great sense of pacing.

The PS360 era had some tremendous sequels and also some that I realized, either at the time or later, were disappointments. Dead Space 2 is definitely in the former category and might be the best blockbuster sequel of that entire generation.

I liked meeting Ellie in the mall, the Unitologist mansion tour ending with meeting Daina Le Guin, and the daycare section.

My loadout is a Plasma Cutter for long range, Disc Ripper for mid range, and Force Gun for close range battle.

I do not think a remake will happen. On the bright side the original Dead Space 2 is still the best installment in the series.

Where are these screens from? This game looks way better than this.

Like a lot of people say, DS1 is the Alien to DS2's Aliens
I've always heard this, but man, I feel like Dead Space is Aliens and Dead Space 2 is "More Aliens." I never found the first game to be that much of a straight horror experience, certainly not to a significantly greater degree than the second anyway. But I'll allow that these experiences can be pretty subjective.

Did anyone else here use the seeker rifle?

I fucking love that thing, especially with the zoom function. It was really good using it with stasis against those raptor like necros (amazing enemy) for precise shots to the legs and also against those fat fuckers that split open and release all the creepy crawlers if you hit their center mass.

Sucks they got rid of it for 3, even though you could technically build your own (arguably the best part of 3, building your own weapons)

Series S on my Samsung OLED 😕

It actually looks really fucking nice in person
How odd. You make me want to reinstall, just to see if my screens come out like this. I also have to find some kind of solution for taking screens.
I used to have a great way, but after upgrading OSs twice and.. shit. I feel like they castrated the ability to make it simple.

Probably end up seeing what I can do, when I wake up tomorrow. I can't even post screens so I can post in the Graphics I Expect Thread.

I went from returning Dead Space 2 to the rental place early because it was stressing me out, to being one of my most replayed games of all time. It's the better game to the first, and still holds up.

In a way, a DS2 remake not getting made saves the awkward conversation for whether or not to remake DS3. (Almost) nobody wants a DS3 remake. Kind of like how you gotta wonder what Capcom's going to do for RE5 now.

I remember using it a lot last time I played 2. Was nice having a precision rifle option since I don't recall there being one in the first game.

Yeah let me know what you do and hit me up. Post pics.

I never liked the scarcity of upgrade points in the first game. I mean yeah, it emphases a survival feel (despite other aspects of the game kinda not doing this), but there's barely enough to keep the suit and a single weapon upgraded, so I always ended up sticking with one or two weapons for an entire playthrough (getting ammo drops for only the weapons you're carrying didn't help with this). I don't remember how the upgrades shake out in the second game since I've played it less despite liking it more. It would have been nice to have more loadout/upgrade flexibility on a single playthrough.

Just remember to disable vsync, since it locks the game to 30 fps, but it does need to be capped to 60 fps with a limiter iirc otherwise there's issues. Mouse controls are also fucked up and there's a range of other issues, I'd recommend checking PCGW. The PC ports for this series weren't great when new and they've only gotten worse with time.

From what I've been playing so far on Zealot I'm finding Nodes are not exactly plentiful but they're around enough, and once you find the blueprint to build them you feel like things should go swimmingly, too bad I forgot that you get curbstomped within a hit or two so a lot of my upgrades are going to health and stasis. Barely weapons aside from the cutter.

Zealot is good shit. Very reminiscent to me of re4 on Professional etc. It's a fair tough challenge.

Never did Impossible (1) or Zealot (2) runs, just whatever was one lower. Maybe I'll attempt it next time I revisit them.

Always worth the playthrough for The Advanced Soldier Rig.
When I did Impossible for DS2, that shit... OMFGoodness... you have to beat chunks of the game without dying and sometimes that can be SO fucking tough.
I remember the mining part where it's basically a "scroller" section... that shit had my head looking like a volcano with the lava spewing forth. Livid.

Is that the part where you're riding on that mining tank that Dana is driving? I remember that being a motherfucker. There are a LOT of rough and tough moments in 2 that far outnumber 1 and 3 to me.

That's the one. I kept getting fucked over by those little bastards that like hanging back and shooting you with their tails. You have to basically move 360 degrees until it's over. At least that's what I did. The only guide sor help I got was reading the guidelines for how Hardcore works.

The final gauntlet in Dead Space 2 where you just have to run like hell and blast only what's in your immediate path with the regenerator on your ass...... oooh baby that was intense.

Yeah you keep thinking things will settle down for a sec to get your shit together, but nope, on top of the fact that there's barely anywhere to move. It's HARSH. The game really does get properly more intense and difficult as you progress. Even with your weapons and upgrades you really can still get your ass kicked quicker than you realize, constantly lol

It never settles down until it's over! I think there is like one moment where they let you get your shit together and after that? It's continuous bombardment.
CowboyLou CowboyLou That is another hard area. During the last 3rd of the game, on Hardcore, it's all about where you decide to have that last save. Fortunately, I think my final save was on the last chapter and every time I'd die, I had to do that whole shit again, including the final boss. It was extremely frustrating.

Edit: I also wanted to stress, there is a part in the final act
where you have to put needles into the MCs eyes, if you fuck it up? Game Over and Restart. LOL!

I'd like to do a Hardcore run of DS2 someday; three saves for a game its length seems just the right kind of challenging. Been on my bucket list.

Dead Space remake's Impossible mode (permadeath, no saves) can get lost, though.

Where are these screens from? This game looks way better than this.

The Xbox BC version got the 60fps boost but it still runs at 720p on the OG X360 settings, so there's that.

The game is also available on EA Play / PC Game Pass app so PC folks can ramp it up higher, but like Chuck Berry Chuck Berry said, while playing, it holds up remarkably well even on the BC version. The stills don't really do it justice.

I will grab screens tomorrow, after I find my solution. Right now, I'm just posting here and getting ready to play something, before I eventually cook, eat and take a shower before sleep. I'm not worried about higher graphics, just want to make sure the screen grabs are crystal.

Apologies mine aren't the best or just don't transfer well from the Xbox app to my iPhone to the forum, but seriously, the game looks fucking fantastic and holds up like a motherfucker. Thank god for Xbox BC. It's great to be able to run through stuff like this again before RE9 for instance.

Videogames 😎

The problem with this series is that it never managed to gain a foothold in the market or find a buyer. I'm a big fan of games 1 and 2 (there's no third game), but given the series' sales history and the poor performance of the first game's remake, I don't think EA will be returning to this series anytime soon, if at all. Making a risky investment and hoping that this time it will definitely work out and there will be sales. Companies don't take that kind of risk anymore, and investors simply won't fund it...

EA gave it a chance with DS1R. People didn't show up.

This is one you can't blame EA on. They would've gladly done number 2 if there was enough dollars made from the first remake.

No one to blame but the people who didn't buy it day one. Which I get - it's on PS+, gamepass, and deep deep discounts now so patient gamers won in the end way more, but it hurt fans of the franchise for the long haul.

Glen also wanted to do a new entry for a tiny budget both with old EA and new EA. Shot down.

This franchise is officially dead.

All I need to do is enable V-Sync at the general Nvidia 3D settings, and have it disabled at the in-game's options. Runs at 60 fps and no issues at all. Same with Dead Space 1 and 3.

Exactly - this is on the community. UNLESS, of course, EA had insane sale estimations for the game (5 million sold in the first 3 days or something). Dead Space needed to be budgeted like an AA game. Its sales usually go for 2 million units. That's its audience.

Would be cool if they made one, but not enough people did show up for them to budget another at current AAA remake cost...they'd have to go AA pricing with it...which I wouldn't mind either.

I'm just hoping they get around to remastering C&C Red Alert 2 & Tiberian Sun.

Dead Space is dead. The Remake obviously failed to meet expectations.

Dead Space 3 was a mistake, those are my thoughts about the og. It would need a complete reimagination if they decide to do a remake one day
I think Dead Space 3 could be fixed if they removed the coop bullshit and the new crafting mechanic which absolutely sucked. Also some gameplay finetuning. The shooting somehow felt worse than in the predecessors. A reduction of the enemy count wouldn't hurt either, especially in the last third.
