Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake - Will Be Announced This Year (Dusk Golem)

2027 will be an 0 remake if the same rumours by Dusk Golem are true.

He did say lower budget remake for both IRC, not even sure how you can do that with zero. With code Veronica, probably easier to recreate all the 3D into higher quality assets but zero has 2D background.

I don't trust any of these fucks.

I personally want code Veronica remake most, then RE0, then RE1RR, then RE5.

I like the remake resident evils more than the mainline entries so far. I want to play requiem but I'm not kidding myself that it'll top RE2R or RE4.

Capcom has finished imo the easier projects to remake… now it's time to remake games with severe flaws and uplift them.

Lower budget doesn't necessarily means low budget. It means probably an lower budget compared to Requiem, because that one looks really expensive and the biggest one in the series. Code Veronica and 0 probably will reuse assets from Requiem and they will not feature big areas, like the original ones.

I remember playing 1,2,3 and then getting CV and it being a little bit of a let down. I want to replay it though with all the modern updates to mechanics and graphics and try to keep the nostalgia disappointment in the back of my mind.

Not going to lie. The original Resident Evil: Code veronica is still one of my personal favorite games in the series. I still have my original Dreamcast discs right here:

It's sweet, I had no clue folks hate it till GAF threads. I'd played RE 1-3 and I liked it more than 3 for sure, moodier like 1 but still fast paced, cool with ace real 3D. It would be funny if they made this a static camera remake instead of the expected modern stuff so folks hate it all over again. I'd play it.

It's a strange outlier in the Resident Evil series. The game itself really started as a port of Resident Evil 2 for the Sega Saturn. I guess Sega and capcom had a deal to port some of their Resident Evil games to the system.

The middle ware developer 'Nexttech' (who are called Nex Entertainment up until 2016 when they went defunct) was contracted to do the saturn port of RE2, as they previously did the saturn port of RE1. But they deemed the Saturn poort of Resident Evil 2 to not be worth their time. They didn't think it looked good.

Capcom made a formal public announcement for the cancellation of RE2 for the Saturn, and then announced that they were working with Sega on a 'next generation' Resident Evil game for the newly uninvolved Dreamcast called Code Veronica.

The game design was helmed by Capcom Production Studio 4. The engine and 'heavy lifting' was done by Next Entertainment. There is also some speculation that TOSE may have done models and assets for Code Veronica. The game seems like it was heavily outsourced. Next Entertainment also did a lot of work for AM2 on Shenmue 1 and 2 for the Dreamcast, and they also ported Dino Crisis to the Dreamcast as well. They were quite skilled with the Dreamcast hardware. The engine for Code Veronica is practically the Resident Evil 2 engine remade with 3D environments. It started as a Sega Saturn port of RE2. Code Veronica was made to be a tech showcase for the Dreamcast. For its time it did have pretty impressive looking 3D backgrounds and cinematic in-engine models and character rigging for early 2000. Months before the PS2 launched.

The Dreamcast game was reviewed really well for critics and they hyped the graphics and models. It was ported to the PS2 and Gamecube due to the early cancellation of the Dreamcast. NextTech did those ports too. The PS2 and GameCube ports didn't quite get the same glowing reviews as the early Dreamcast original, the wow factor of the Dreamcast game wasn't there, given that the Cube and Xbox were on the market. People who played Resident Evil Code Veronica X were a little more underwhelmed by the visuals.

There was also the remastered ports that people tend to forget that were released on the 360 and PS3. That remastered port used Capcom's MT Framework engine, and has enhanced fire and water effects effects (these looks weak on the Dreamcast) and an updated lighting engine model. But still uses the original assets and models. There was also the Wii light game called: The Darkside Chronicles. It was actually quite good. Had a nice visual upgrade over the original Code Veronica. It really showed off the Wii hardware.

It still; is a cannon side quest. Resident Evil 2 remake actually retcons story elements from Code veronica into the game. It directly references the Ashcroft family. So Code Veronica is story canon in the remake universe. It is open for a remake as well. It does continue Claire (and Chris's) storyline.

Good. That one could use the remake treatment. I feel like there's quite a bit that could get improved, looking forward to seeing it.

I love Code Veronica, my dreamcast made me so proud, the safe room music is pure crack!
I remember making it to the last boss but with like 2 or 3 bullets left, I couldn't finish it!
The final boss was timed though iirc. You only had to survive long enough for this launcher to be charged.

Was just gonna say this. The whole Alfred/Alexia thing will have to be "updated for modern audiences."
Alfred was a fucking lunatic. Hopefully they quell that awful laugh.
Also, they could extend some areas and make other areas less monotonous, such as the water/bridge/stairs room. That room = :messenger_ogre:

I bought a japanese Dreamcast to play this game. I remember being blown away at the beginning, using the lighter in the cell. Good times.
I remember being "blown away" when I had to revisit the prison going through crowds of zombies with no ammo before leaving the island!

With all the talk of characters... I really liked "Rodrigo Juan Raval" and wish we would have seen more of him. He was one of those rare Resident Evil characters that I thought was actually voiced well and turned out to be kinda half decent and level headed, not just bad/insane like most of the Umbrella affiliated characters we meet in Resident Evil games.

In terms of graphics, I remember thinking the closeups on Claire's eyes near the beginning of the game were really cool. The game didn't blow me away graphically, because I played it on the PS2 after having already seen Final Fantasy X cut-scenes and things like that, but I still thought it looked good.

Sometimes I forget about this one... It was a formative gaming experience for me personally as I transitioned away from "kiddie" type games. I had watched my friend and his older brother play the first Resident Evil game quite a few times when I was about 9 or so and it really made me reconsider what a game could be and made me interested in Playstation. The other game to do this was Metal Gear Solid. When I got a PS2 (never actually owned a PS1 as I grew up a Nintendo kid) I made sure to ask for a Resident Evil game for Christmas and Code Veronica X is what I got.
