Capcom: "Grace And Leon's Sections in Resident Evil Requiem Are Almost Equally Split"

The
baby
has killed repeat playthroughs of Village for me several times. I imagine there being multiple of these in Reqiuem will make me less likely to replay this one too.
They need someone like mikami, someone who understands how to Design a game properly. Og re4 and even evil within 1 have superior Design.

This guy didn't do village, but re7 so there is hope. But still, I can't get over this 2 different playstyles in 1 approach.

They should've done A/B instead. Too many people are babies and would rather throw a tantrum than simply adapt to both styles of RE. Don't get me wrong the game has best in the series potential for people that can adapt between 2 and 4, but I fear the games discourse will be cooked by 4/5/6 action dudebros that only want that and won't let the horror game be a horror game...and horror purists that start melting down as soon as protagonist moves and fights faster than a snail.
There are plenty of slow ass atmospheric fps horror games for the horror purists to enjoy.

There are not many horror games where you suplex and roundhouse the shit out of monsters.

Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi told Automaton that Leon and Grace will share the game's runtime equally. "In terms of gameplay, Grace and Leon's playable sections are almost equally split," Nakanishi said. "The structure is similar to Resident Evil Revelations."

Nakanishi added that Requiem is Leon's first return to Raccoon City since his time in Resident Evil 2, "so seeing how he responds to the 'place where it all began' now that he's older is another major point of interest." In terms of designing this more gruff Leon for Requiem, the director said, "Although he's a character who carries a lot on his shoulders, we took a lot of care in refining him to be an 'ikeoji' [a cool/attractive guy]," adding that the reaction to this new trailer made the development team happy.

I just see RE4R with RE6 finishing moves and the ability to pick up specific weapon drops. It looks very cool in motion.

And I'm sure down the road randomizer mods and the person that made Berserker/Valkyrie for RE4R will be amazing since they utilized unused area's of those maps.

Game seems great but both players like us and people like Max Dude both agree that they still have shown very little of the game's scope for a game that's about a return to Raccoon City.

It will make the wait tense...but maybe it'll be worth it in the long run.
As a weak ass bitch who struggles to NOT spoil myself, I appreciate that they've essentially shown one area of the game in motion.

I feel like, and I could be way over-estimating Capcom's potential to buttfuck this up, they know that they have to give us a fairly well realized return to raccoon city. They have to let us explore and fulfill that dream that was possible with RE3Remake, but conversely, they paired it back even from the original - to a degree.

You would have thought they'd start focusing on horror after 7. But they couldn't help themselves and went straight to action again. The stronghold section in village it almost felt like I was playing doom. I wish they at least did the A and B scenario so you can play the whole game as horror if you wanted to.

I'm still very hyped for the game but my hype did drop after seeing this showcase.

I'm wondering if this news would get better received if you could just pick your character/scenario at the beginning. Kind of like past games, but with a completely different campaign and gameplay style.

I guess devs wouldn't want people missing out on a full half of the game though if they picked one character, reached the credits, and then quit.

Depends on the pacing and how they flesh out the game. It's probably gonna be Grace starts out weak but progressively gets stronger throughout your playtime whereas Leon might start out strong initially but eventually the 2 characters strengths and weaknesses even out.

They've shown a taste of each's initial gameplay but I think there is a lot they still haven't shown yet.

They probably will end up pulling an Ethan Winters with Grace.

And in addition there is pros and cons to each management system such as weapon management. Guns take up certain blocks of space for Leon but at most a weapon for Grace will only take up 2 inventory slots regardless of gun size. So there is some difference in management.

Capcom, for whatever reason, loves to make the same type of moves over and over. People don't want RE to be an action game and they are dead set on making it one.
Capcom makes multi-plat games that ship on everything and are designed to appeal to 'everyone'.
Violence and action work on both while true horror won't ever ship on Nintendo.

Played RE Village cause it's on PS+. It plays awful, I tried the one before and it was bad too. Shooting got no punch at all, I really hope 3rd person can redeem this game but Resident Evil games don't feel like proper RE to me no more.

I'm calling it now, almost everyone will feel that they should have split it to 2 scenarios instead of this fuck up.

First playtrough will be fine, but the replayability will suffer.

We don't even know what we unlock after beating it. It could easily be modes where you can choose 1 protagonist for the whole game. Besides, this will only be an issue for console. On PC there will most likely be mods week one where you can do just that.

Same.
Its like RE4 remake success repeated what RE4 did caused, and they went back to action again.

Hype drop

"People"? Who's that? My first RE was the og on PSX back in 1996 and while RE2 holds a special place in my heart I can't deny that RE4/RE4R is by far my favourite (and easily in my top 5 best games of all time). That game is lightening in a bottle and I'd kill for another game of the same quality.

Wait so what format is this game following? RE2 style with separate campaigns for both characters? RE5 Style were both characters are together all the time? Or RE6 style were it's one big campaign but it forces perspective/setting changes for both characters through out the story?

None of those. You switch to the other character at specific times, think of revelations. But the problem is 2 different playstyles are mixed into one playtrough, which many fans see a problem.

Huh!?? Wh-Why did they think it was a good idea to mix the progression style of RE Revelations while having different play styles/vibes just like RE6?

Well it's even worse than that, because re6 doesn't have different gameplay styles but still separated scenarios. Revelations does switch the characters but just because it was planed episodic. Also it doesn't have 2 different gameplay mechanics either.

RE9 not only has grace with re2/7 and leon with re4r mechanics, you are forced to play them in turns, whenever the game forces you.

But to answer your question, because they are stupid.
This will only work for the 1st playthrough, but will fuck up the replayability. Unless there is a surprise after completing the game once and we can actually choose. I somehow doubt it.

Every time Resident Evil does this whole "Swap playable character mid game" it sucks new and exciting kinds of dick.
Either let me choose at the start like the OG titles, or stick to one.

Welp....for better or worse I also consume the extended media of the RE franchise and unfortunately not everything they produce is a clear cut great content so if RE:Requiem doesn't end up panning out it will just get tossed in the bad apples pile alongside RE6, RE Dead Aim, etc.

This is giving me Ninja Gaiden 4 vibes, a game where absolutely no one asked for a shitty new main character where fans only wanted to play as Ryu which, unfortunately, he felt tacked on and a guest star in his own franchise.

Just give people what they want, this whole thing of trying to cater to both audiences (survival horror+action horror fans) will end up pleasing no one IMO, it's like they're too scared to stray away from the usual path, either make a pure survival horror OR an action one ffs...

Music to my ears.

I'm willing to bet there will be a section where grace must save Leon from the virus. Like 4 but roles reversed. Hopefully Capcom is not this creatively bankrupt to recycle the same story scenarios.

this whole thing of trying to cater to both audiences
This is the way modern devs and companies have been going. Only passionate indie devs understand what gamers actually want. This idea of offend no one...just leads to offending everyone.

This uh new evolution/brand of horror comes across as very weak, bland and uninspired.

So far the likes of Crow Country and Signalis are more on the level then RE9 thus far.

What'll happen is fans will come to the conclusion the campaigns should be separated. But hey that's what mods are for.

All I really am seeing is one character has limited inventory but has a couple places where they have a item box that holds infinite stuff and the other one just carries a upgradable item box with then the whole game. In the long term Grace will end up being either on par or better then Leon.

However if this game is really just RE Revelations 3...then Raid mode pls. Just in my veins.

On the subject of NG4...IF Ayane was the main character I probably would consider playing since that would make more sense then YakuNO. Which Ryu IMO is just an afterthought since the Dark Dragon Sword Yakumo gets....is Ryu's exact same moveset.

I've said it before but right now if you want a game more in line with NG action it's going to be Nioh 3. Because NG4 just ain't it.
