What speedrunning did become?

Just watching some last speedrun longplay videos, i'm wondering what the sense of this; to play in this way, using glitches, bugs and whatever in a sense that imo the videos are difficult to follow in first

too much, i'm probably old school but to me i would like a couple of steps back, as the fast way to complete a game in a 'legit' way

On Topic.

I remember doing speedruns in Sonic games since like forever......does being able to jump from one rail and skipping half the level count as a glitch or just exploiting the system?

I think the most interesting Speedruns are actually Tony Hawk speed runs.......just when I thought I was good.........damn.

Also Devil May Cry ones where the cat just abuses the boss is always a marvel.

Yeah, I thought that, too, at first. Why not just use a cheat that teleports you at the end of the game and it's about how fast you going to type/use that cheat.

But that's what those categories are for. Some people love to trick the games. Different folks, different strokes. As someone said earlier, watch the non-glitch speed runs.

Never changed, I could be wrong but is it the polar opposite of Hideo Kojima games? cause I used to think this way.

Glitch runs are limited by the glitches present in the stock version of the game. No Game Genie.

How fast can you get to the end of Mario 64 with a stock cartridge? Everyone has the same limitations, including glitches to exploit. Part of the skill is your ability to recreate those glitches, the race is the same for everyone. This is what categories with different rules are for.

Thats why there are different categories. Sometimes i dislike heavy glitches or out of bounds strats as well, but theres no glitch% runs for that.
