Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

I know lol, that's why I didn't specifically call it cel-shaded. There are a lot of variations of shading out there that have their own names, Granblue is one of them, and I like what they did the most (so far).
Then you are looking for is "painted" look that you see in concept arts, that what Granblue Relink visuals trying to mimic. While game like Valkyria Chronicle visuals trying mmic water color with pencil woke on notebook.

No you misunderstand lol, I'm not specifically looking for any one style. I'm just saying I liked Granblue's the best so far. That doesn't invalidate how good I think MH Stories, Genshin, Valkyria, and Borderlands looks on their own. They all have their individual strengths.

That how anime shows looks like, the character are cell shaded while the background are painted.

not all anime shows are like that, there are plenty that actually are fully celshaded, like I'm pretty sure Shinchan is fully, or at least mostly celshaded for example.

and in games it's often even more of a blurry line between celshaded and soft shaded. that Monster hunter screenshot you posted for example, while being celshaded when it comes to the realtime lighting on the characters, is not fully celshaded on the textures. some of the character texutres have soft shading.

Yeah they are anime who do full cell-shaded background. But they are also who do beautifully painted for background.

Have you watched The Garden of Words?

This is one of those games that is going to be able to strech its wings on high end Pcs. Its engine reminds me of Pc focused engines with the ability to push draw distances and effects to crazy levels but they did a good job with the consoles limitations especially since they preserved all the scale with full rt gi, and a high level of general fidelity. Running with dlss4 at 1440p+ base resolutions, lod, texture etc settings set to max this will surprise quite a few people. Even on consoles I have to give applause for the devs for shipping such an ambitious title with a limited budget.

You can find fault in the character models and the image quality but looking at it holistically it is very impressive.

They need to drop a demo.

I haven't played it yet either but from what I've seen it looks better than Horizon on average but Horizon probably still has the higher highs. Although tbf Horizon's highs are still better than pretty much all non-Sony games too, especially the Burning Shores expansion. I really think the only game that's clearly better than anything Sony's put out this gen - consistently and not just in one aspect like RT interiors, like with Outlaws, say - is Shadows.

Imo the Sony standings would be something like:

Ratchet & Clank
Ghost of Yotei
Horizon FW
Spider-Man 2
Demon's Souls
Death Stranding 2
TLOU P1
Astro Bot
Gran Turismo 7
Returnal
GOW Ragnarok
... other stuff
Decent list except for yotei up there.

Is there a world where the devs of crimson desert manage to make run the game at 4k60 on a 2080? (which should be like a bit more powerful than a ps5 if i remember well)

2080 is the recommended gpu and in every interview they really hammer that 4k60 without dlss for mid-range gpus...

I thought it was $25?
Really?
Looks way better than it should i have to admit, even though it's a bit rough and jank around the edges.
I love the physics in combat, we have only regressed since HL2... bring back interactive environments and physics and not that static shit like in most UE5 games like Avowed, Outer Worlds 2 etc. where everything is nailed to the ground.

Something interesting the devs said was that they have only ever shown the game at native resolution. Yes, they have used PC GPUs to do that and for all we know they couldve been using 3090s, 4090s and now 5090s, but they were very proud of the fact that they have never used DLSS or any other upscaling techniques even when showing the game early on in the early 2020s. They want to show that their engine is very performant.

I wonder if the PS5 Pro footage they've been showing recently is also native 4k.

I would be surprised if the 2080, ps5, xsx can do 1440p 60 fps. The game looks very heavy. I think 1440p 30 fps on these consoles would make sense. The Pro might be closer to native 4k 30 fps. The 3090 would be native 4k 30 fps. And then by the time you get to 5090, you can get native 4k 60 fps.

I am watching the very first trailer for the game that came out in 2019 when the 2080 Ti was the best card out there, but it does not look as good as the final build of the game. the lighting is last gen, the level of detail is very RDR2 quality and while the forest look even worse than RDR2.

The December 2020 gameplay reveal trailer is likely running on a 3090, but even though it has way better lighting, the level of detail and the draw distance is still ways behind what we are getting in 2026.

Definitely a work in progress, and kind of a rarity in modern times where devs are scared shitless showing their games in the early stages while these guys were like here is a 20 fps trailer with last gen lighting and forests 6 years before the game came out. But because every year they released a new trailer with upgraded graphics, people were like cool.

Wit they put out pro footage??

Strange, a lot of the footage I saw of the game appears to have FSR2 -esque upscaling artifacts? Maybe its just their TAA implementation?

I'm currently playing Yotei on the pro and that's embarassing. Besides the massively improved draw distance, I feel like I'm playing Tsushima. Not sure what they did for 5 damn years. Visually speaking and in terms of gameplay features, it really feels like Tsushima 1.5.
Yeah the visuals of Yotei are really not good, so many last gen assets everywhere, really don't understand fanboys trying to hype it

Yeah you can tell this game is not using nanite or any virtualized geometry tech alright...

Ambitious and big but sorry i'm not impressed by the fidelity on screen, as far as graphic goes, fable is a noticeable step up except for the characters maybe.

Still my second most hyped game of the year after gta6.
Fables characters look better as well. This shit was downgraded.

Samson got a new gameplay video. Lots of new footage.

The video is only 1080p and very blurry. This is partly why twitter bros think gaming visuals have stagnated. Devs dont do a good job showcasing their own games. We know from experience that UE5 games will have really good asset quality and realistic lumen lighting but thats not showing up in youtube. At least in 1080p vids. And especially for a dark gritty game like this.

I do like the destructible environments. Especially in the grocery store where the guy gets shoved into a shelf and a bunch of vitamin bottles fall off. I also like the hair physics when hes throwing punches. Night time driving is also very beautiful. Giving NFS 2015 vibes.

UE5 always seems to have issues with hair fizzling on most games, so distracting. The physics interactions on objects look great though, shame we really don't see that often, makes a big difference for me. Looks decent overall, especially for a low budget, it only really shows obviously with some janky animation.
Edit: Absolutely awful naming for a game though

I think this is new gameplay

Performance seems rough at times and lots of jank.
I have a feeling this game is gonna need alot of patches after release before it's actually good.
Also i don't think it's gonna have a good story with memorable characters, it's gonna be more like a fun sandbox game is my best guess so far.

Hopefully the situation is gonna be better on a powerfull pc.

But yeah i don't expect great story or charas, just a fun, varied open world to lose myself into for a couple of weeks.

Hl2 physics?

Did that game had much more than basic havok and ragdoll?

I remember a puzzle involving liquids but that's it i think.

GTA4 already had more advanced physics thanks to Euphoria. They reduced quality of it in GTA5...

HL2 was revolutionary when it came out but it was just havok with ability for players to pick up objects, very few games have this ability (and most of them run havok or physx).

I think hitman 1 already had soft bodies but not exactly ragdoll aswell.

Traspasser on pc also had like a physics engine or something.

Hl2 was just the first game to put everything together.

So I started playing Resident Evil Village yesterday with ray tracing on but not in the performance mode on the Pro. This morning there was a new update to 1.230 and the support for 120hz is no longer available. I was going to try out that setting eventually but it's not there anymore. I only have an hour of playtime.

I remember one of the first puzzle had you make some kind of scaffolding with the gravity gun, and in itself the gravity gun was very fun to use, but it might be that at the time there was almost no physics interactivity in games so i remember hl2 as mindblowing in that regard :pie_thinking:

I need 4k version of this video, $40 game!

Should be illegal to release a video in 2026 with this kind of bitrate. Anyway it looks rough on the gameplay side, but for a short game sold for a budget price could deliver a reasonable fun.

Graphically seems similar to RoboCop or any UE5 game set in a city. Some Matrix tech demo vibes too with this car physics, but without the real time deformation that looked cool in the demo.

Witcher video is not gameplay/ingame, though.
Yeah i know, it was fake as fuck.
the 1st game doesnt exist , even with next gen upgrade the game doesnt look this good , and its not just about the graphics but the density of the scene , you see npcs chilling , npcs working , kids playing , animals helping

the only that sucks is the draw distance
yeah my post was like "we finally surpassed the bullshit w3 gifs" :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

What the fuck? Gimping games in updates should be fucking illegal...
