Monster Hunter Stories 3 Demo trailer.

I actually really liked 2 even though it kind of fell apart near the end.

I hope this game dose well enough that it would get its own master rank expansion like mainline games.

Played the demo a bit, I like the main protagonist being properly voiced and essentially fleshed out as a fully active participant in the story. It changes the dynamic for the better in a JRPG of this style, IMO. Went from a "I'll get around to it" to a day one purchase for me.

The demo is already on PS5.

Already played. Loved.

- Using base PS5
- Three graphical settings: Performance, Balanced and Quality
- The game use 120hz mode, if your TV support
- RE Engine
- The combat animations are amazing.

Is really sad seeing a game with so high top battle animations while Pokemon using shit as usual.

Really curious on the gameplay is this one, what they've shown looks great though so I will set some time aside this weekend to check out the demo. So many RPGs!

My god this game is fucking GORGEOUS!

This game is already HUGE upgrade over the second game.

I actually spend some time in the character creation, but can't wait for getting another monster.

I'm playing in 'balanced' btw, looks super crispy. RE engine plus cell shading really do wonders.

Wow playing the demo and it's instantly noticeable that the budget has increased a lot from 2 to 3.

Honest opinion here.
Scarlet and Violet ran better than this shit on Switch than this does on Switch 2. It actively hurts my eyes to move the camera. I gave up and deleted after a few minutes.

Interesting, S2 might be an old build. The game is smooth as butter on base PS5 in balanced mode. Graphically a huge leap over MHS2.

I've seen some people that have played it say it ran better when they did. I wouldn't buy it like this, so I can only hope its an old build. There's no setting customizations for motion blur or graphics/performance mode.

S2 version should be performing better. While the game is graphically a gen better than previous MHS games and more than 2-3 gens ahead of Pokemon games, it should not be that demanding. Motion blur, film grain, depth of field and chromatic abberation toggles should be a must in every game regardless of system.

I would be in day one, but I know that just like MH Wilds last year this game will get discounted in around 6 months, so I will get it on discount.

Ok, I pulled the trigger on stories and stories 2 double pack (~17gbp right now) - I don't want to ruin these so I'll wait until I've finished them before picking this up.

They added longsword which is good, but they removed sword and shield? This is really disappointing, one step forward one back.

I started playing the demo on Switch 2 (handheld mode) and maaaan... it's rough to say the least.

like it is typical for RE Engine, it seems to run unlocked, but constantly drops below 30fps with no proper VRR support either 😬

I really wonder what it is with developers failing to properly support VRR on Switch 2.

I think I'll download the demo on Xbox instead.
open world RE Engine games need all the horsepower possible, even highly stylised ones it seems.
this engine really doesn't like open world designs.

this reaffirms my belief that MH Wilds has absolutely no chance of running on Switch 2 in any playable state unless they completely redo the whole game basically

I think 3rd game takes looooong after two, I don't think you need to my opinion it's worth playing Stories 1&2.
I'll try the demo for 3. I don't like the art or character design of 1&2 but this one they nailed it.

Feel like this is as close as breath of fire 6 as we will ever get.

I personally enjoyed 1&2 but 3rd game is another level when it comes to visuals and artstyle, it's fucking good.

With the first game it's clear they were going after Pokémon audience with 2nd game less so but 3rd game they MUCH more confident going for their own style.

I wanna try the demo on the Steam Deck.
has someone managed to get FSR4 working?

I have tested multiple proton versions, but either I can't select the DLSS option, or with others it crashes on me the moment I select it 😭

  • Monster Hunter Stories 3 offers three display modes on Xbox Series S and PS5. On Switch 2, there is only one display mode.
  • The most notable differences between settings are in performance mode, which significantly reduces shadow quality and draw distance.
  • PS5 manages to keep the fps above the target rate in all display modes, even reaching 60fps at times in balanced mode, which is the most recommended.
  • Xbox Series S surprises with how close it is to the PS5 settings, something that is not often seen. However, it finds it difficult to maintain them stably.
  • Switch 2 also runs with settings similar to balanced mode and shows greater stability than the Xbox Series S version in dock mode. However, in portable mode, it can fall below 30 fps more often.

game looks way too good and with a nice roster of monsters, very hyped to see some returning from Rise and surprisingly appearances from Wilds already

I love the game, but the mechanics are very confusing. Most of the monsters are beating my ass.

Are these standalone ? As in can you just jump in without having played the previous ones?.

2nd is kinda direct sequel to the first game with returning characters but 3rd game take loooong after the 2nd game, I dont think you dont need need worry about not understanding the story.

Just like mainline MH you need recognize their attack patterns.....for example Velocidrome starts with Speed attack which you can counter with Technical attack but once his in enrage he starts using Power attack which you counter with Speed attacks.

Also Monster can use Skill attack which you can't do head to head.

I tried playing the demo on an HDD just to test.

Cutscenes were laggy and desyned from the audio, so I moved it over to SDD and everything was much better 😅

Demo leaves a very good impression, and I've gone from skip to play one day. So much better than the MS2 demo.

Not sure on it, game looks and sounds great but I didn't love the battle system. I never really liked the whole rock / paper / scissors thing from the previous games and it carries it forward to this one. I will still probably check it out though, I'm a sucker for JRPGs and that these look so good now on Switch 2 is tickling my brain well.

I personally LOVE that combat because just like mainline MH games it's all about recognizing monsters's attack patterns. I like 2nd game you could switching weapons middle of the battle since different body parts is weak to different weapons.

The battle mechanic really needs tuning,
specially on the face up turns. The game extremelly lacks visibility, as the frame where they show you taking damage occurs incredibly fast(Im talking about miliseconds here). Also, if you still take damage for that (and I mean huge damage because every monster is supposed to be overwelming), then it makes the face off kinda redundant.
Also the patterns also really needs tunning. The only monster with clear pattern behavious is the Velociraptor monster, witch uses Speed unless it change behaviour. All the other monsters are almost erratic with no clear patterns in terms of the 3 types.
Also the pretty lady with spear will definitivelly be nerfed(hard) because her special move seems to the only move in the game who ignores defense. She can ohk basically all cats and can be used to damage Espinas. You can even use her to beat Espinas, but takes alot of time and prefer having a life.

I disagree, you might take damage from head to head but it will never kill you even in 1 HP and its good defensive option if the monster is targeting you which its better to do head to head than trying to heal.

That criticism I understand in the 1st game because it was little more random but in both 2nd and 3rd game the attack patterns are much more consistent, once you experience fighting monster once you know what they gonna do.

Its fun. I played the demo for like 30 mins. there is just so much else im playing right now but from what I see it is a lot deeper than the 2 was.
