Instead of one company (Discord Inc.) hosting all servers, federated alternatives allow users to host their own servers (instances) while remaining connected to a larger, cross-server community. Also, what does federation mean for Stoat?
Thats what I dont understand. Everyone is getting hacked and robbed off all their data's...really everyone! And somehow these global "elite" clowns think its the best idea to force everyone to give even more data out....creating even bigger honeypots. Its all so weird!Just in October 2025, Discord had a major leak, with hackers gaining access to IDs from thousands of people. And now these idiots want more people to give up their IDs and face. Fuck off, you incompetent twats.
And let's not forget the memory leak they can't fix, so they have to force Discord to restart every once in a while, so it doesn't crash.

Discord ID data breach: Why the world isn't ready for age verification laws | Proton
A huge ID photo breach at Discord shows that age verification laws should not be enforced until robust privacy protections are in place.proton.me
I'm not sure if that's good or bad lolInstead of one company (Discord Inc.) hosting all servers, federated alternatives allow users to host their own servers (instances) while remaining connected to a larger, cross-server community.

considering I use discord 'normally', I don't see any reason to use adult features.so devil's advocate... what if i just use the teen features to avoid this shit
what am i missing out on?
Everyone should just migrate back to mIRC.
They probably believe they're "too big to fail" and that people will blindly follow orders if it means they get to keep their existing communities. Sadly, they're probably right.I have no idea why they would think this is a good idea.
im more of a Ventrilio guyTeamSpeak here we come baby!
My tin foil hat theory is that this type of enforcement is to do with the new world order change that's currently happening.
Linking individuals to a social credit system. They are worried with the current setup that declining birth rates will compound with how things are over the coming decades.
Changing the current system into something people hate so much that they MUST socialize in person and come off the internet in hopes birth rates of more wage slaves kicks into gear.
That right there is the issue. You would need to trust Discord … when they previously have been hacked. You need to provide IDs or face scans to be granted "adult" privileges. They insist the documents will be deleted immediately after verification. Fuck off lmao.
Yep, this right here is why I am not providing my ID to these random sites.Right, I'll just leave this here. I don't trust this company with any personal information https://arstechnica.com/security/2025/10/discord-says-hackers-stole-government-ids-of-70000-users/
Did you miss the part of when discord did this a few months ago in the UK and immeditelly 70'000 doxuments from users were leaked?Ehhh that really doesn't seem like a big thing to be worried about. That's the same way Apple handles Face ID.
Except it isn't. Face ID is 100% offline. You don't have to be connected to the internet to use it. How are you going to give that data to Discord offline? Face ID is used to unlock the phone locally. It doesn't go anywhere.Ehhh that really doesn't seem like a big thing to be worried about. That's the same way Apple handles Face ID.
Regardless I use Discord for NSFW purposes and I'd rather have age validation than them banning NSFW content.
It says that it is on device processing so they will apparently update the app with whatever AI model they are using to validate your age on the device.Except it isn't. Face ID is 100% offline. In theory Apple could use FaceID and its info about you to set "over 18" attribute which is the only thing that would be provided to Discord.Except it isn't. Face ID is 100% offline. You don't have to be connected to the internet to use it. How are you going to give that data to Discord offline? Face ID is used to unlock the phone locally. It doesn't go anywhere.
I wouldn't trust any apps Discord provides. There should be no need for this 3rd party BS.It says that it is on device processing so they will apparently update the app with whatever AI model they are using to validate your age on the device.
It scans your face and then sends a simple response back to Discord of "Over 18" or "Under 18" instead of sending the entire face data.
Digital ID says hello. No surprise there, online privacy will soon fade away with most apps.
The Norman Reedus psyche still works?Servers classified as for adults and some automatic filter for images that blocks out (some) pornographic pics.
On a side note, this verification system is the easiest shit to bypass. So it's effectively useless while simultaneously putting the data of people who don't understand tech at risk.
Me too, but I'm pretty sure this ain't happening. Most Discord users are a lot younger than us. They don't remember IRC and all the other predecessors of modern chat apps. They're used to digital slavery and don't give a shit about privacy or their own basic rights. They'll stay on Discord like the stupid sheeps they are.I hope that with this, communities will migrate to other platforms, or return to forums, IRC, Matrix, etc.
Digital ID says hello.
That, gmod, random youtube videos, probably AI generated stuff too. It ain't easy to 'fix' this because it increases the risk of the app not recognizing the actual user face. The Norman Reedus psyche still works?
Yeah, that's the part I don't like and don't trust. "That data will totally not leave your device, pinky promise."It says that it is on device processing so they will apparently update the app with whatever AI model they are using to validate your age on the device.
