CDkeys are rebranding to 'Loaded' starting next month

CDkeys stopped working in France a few weeks / months ago unless you use custom DNS.
I wonder if it also affects other countries and if this is related / will change something.

Also stupid new name.

Isn't Loaded an old lad mag from years ago? I remember seeing on store shelves, but of course just tutted and walked away....

I'll be honest, more than a decade ago when I first heard of CDKeys I just thought it was a warez site. It's not a name that sounds "legit", and it's actually impressive that they managed to succeed for that long with such an obvious marketing and perception handicap.
The new name is whatever, but at least I wont have to explain myself when I share a good deal with less informed people.

I remember those late 90's-early 00's "hakerz" and "warez" site for downloading files... ahhh fun times

"Hey we've been very successful selling game keys for more than a decade now, we're a household name and everyone knows our brand"
"Okay let's change our company name and brand to something else entirely so people will have zero clue we're actually CD Keys"
"Genius, here's 100,000 dollars bonus"

If you let yourself get talked into doing something as retarded as this by some marketing loser you deserve what's coming.

how do you not go for "See Deez Keys", you dumb fucks

"You know guys, we spent 10 years using the same name, now that our name is recognizable its time for the next step. Its time for a new and unrelated new name so we can spend the next 10 years educating ppl what Loaded is trying to sell. And no its not about testicles."

It seems like they did this rebranding internally and not with a partner to help with outside observation lol. Eventually "loading" will be a thing of the past when you can have instant streaming. Lol.

Why not just digikeys or something? Name sucks ass.
That's genius, phonetically similar to cdkeys if you say it or loud too and you still know what they all by the name. That's the first rule of branding unless you're a household name.

Loaded could sell anything else from ammunition to blush market drugs if you asked me to guess what kind of business they are on the street.

The site itself works, but the last few months my bank has started blocking my card whenever I try and buy from them. Something is definitely going on.

Cool, take a name everyone knows and ruin by making a new name that means nothing and doesn't even sound good.

buy.com used to be an online store, then they changed to rakuten.com a name that means nothing to americans and doesn't even sound great to hear. They cancelled "buy.com" for that dumb garbage.

This sounds like the same move to me.

Cdkeys are worthless to me because they're not compensating for local currency conversions. Which means they're more expensive in my region than f.ex. the official Nintendo store (!), lol. I wonder why other keysellers can do it while cdkeys can't (or won't).

That was beyond stupid. They changed it to a rebate store instead. I stopped going to them after the change.

I can't help but think that they will do more damage to their brand than good. Names don't have to reflect the peak of modernity and 10 years is a long time of building brand recognition.

I still use terms like 'cdkeys', '3d accelerator' when talking about GPUs, cRPG, FPP/TPP games.

It's just dumb. Do they think younger players don't know what's a cdkey? They are damaging a well known brand. cdkeys.com was one of the safer keyshops, now they will just be another name in the sea of shady key resellers.

CDKeys was probably the best know key site and part of that was due to it's name.
Loaded is just a non-descriptive, generic name.
I could understand if this was a new store, and all the good names were taken.

Still works in Finland, but they added a 25% tax to the games recently, bringing their prices on par or higher than what GMG or Steam sales offer.

I went to preorder Hot Shots and it was marked at €30 but at checkout they stuck €8 tax, basically bringing it up to the same price as steam. I'm pretty sure that this never used to happen.

I love this website and I use them all the time. They've literally made gaming a bit more affordable for everyone which I think is fantastic but I do think that their prices have gone up slightly recently for instance MGS three usually a new release like that would be around £30 but it's 45 at the moment.

Good luck to them. They probably just killed their popularity. CDkeys was a legit name, old, retro, something you'd relate to. Loaded is just some gen-z cringe shit, you know, the generation that doesn't actually buy games?
