As someone who wasn't a massive Killzone fan (always preferred Halo), the fact that is that Sony needed a game with mass normie appeal. Killzone never had that which from a purely business/money perspective makes sense they would drop the franchise. As someone who liked the first Horizon game, the sequel and especially the DLC was one of the most nauseating examples of wokeness in a game I've ever seen, not including the genuinely retarded "evil billionaires and super AIs from space" shark jumping in writing killed any lingering interest I had in this franchise.

Hmm could the reason why the series sales capped at 10 million be because Sony is too freaking lazy to port the games to the PS4 and the PS5 + PC ?

Yakuza was a franchise that had only sold about 10 million units when 0 came out in 2017, since then it has sold almost 30 million units. Why is that you ask ? Maybe just maybe it has something to do with the fact that Sega has ported that franchise and all it's releases to every platform known to man, as well as constantly remastering and remaking the old games, so that casuals that can't stand old game graphics can still enjoy the games and their stories .

KZ2 was great, KZ3 aside from that psychotic genocidal ending, was a downgrade, MP specially

Robodinos 1 was great too, the sequel was also a downgrade in comparison to the first game and no amount of graphical bells and whistles could hide it

So, no, the logic to push robodinos brand while its popularity was high was correct, the problem is what's coming from that idea

When some Chinese knockoff looks better than your game, you know you fucked up really bad

NO!!! You guys didn't like KZ enough. I did my part. I bought KZ2, KZ3, and KZ Shadow Fall.

If you had played Killzone back in 2005 you would understand why people love it so much .

As someone that grew up with a PS2 back in the early 2000s, playing Killzone 1 for the first time just a few months after launch made my jaw hit the floor, just as hard as it did when I originally got the console in 2001 with Gran Turismo 3. Compared to anything else I had ever played up to that point it felt like a generational leap had just occured, despite the fact that both games I just mentioned were running on the exact same hardware.

VERY good points. My only rebuttal would be, the world would be better if gamers had both Killzone and Halo at the same time.

That's great. We all know why horizon exists and killzone doesnt. But Killzone was still way cooler to me and Horizon is just a generic open world polished piece of meh.
 
Killzone 1 was awful. N64 level framerates and terrible gunplay.
Killzone 2 was a mediocre cover shooter with bad controls (250ms input lag LMAO 🤣)
Killzone 3 was CoD in space.

I legit don't give a shit lol.

Ultimately this. Horizon is much more successful then Killzone ever was.

I love Killzone more than most people, but it's hard to fault them for it.

Also as far as I'm aware the team was sick of making Killzone and wanted to try something new.

My only take from this thread is that OP never played Quake. Nor DOOM, Half-Life, Blood, Duke Nukem, FEAR, Serious Sam, Soldier of Fortune... :lollipop_crying:

Yeah anyone calling Killzone one of the greatest FPS ever is seriously outing themselves :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I get it, it was slim pickings on the PS3 in those days. Had to take what you could get. Probably still better than Resistance at least.
 
Killzone was a pretty meh franchise with an interesting story set up and a legendary E3 trailer. It's nuts to think Guerilla made a poor decision by striking out to make something completely different with Horizon.

What they've done with Horizon since the excellent first game is another discussion entirely, but you can't go back in time and say Guerilla killed Killzone for this latest spinoff thing.

Heavenly Sword ran at target 30 fps (often 15-20 fps) and it was supposed to be a fast action game like God of War??

Except I did play Doom, Serious Sam, Duke Nukem, Halo, Half Life etc and I still found Killzone to be one of the best fps franchises ever made. It's almost like different people have different tastes...

Not on PC, and even if we'd stick only to consoles, some of them were 60fps like the Timesplitters games.

Hell even F-Zero X was 60fps on the N64.

It's just that back then graphics were very important because games had to look neat to sell. But 60fps on consoles was doable and some managed to.

We weren't discussing PC and key word was some were 60fps. The HD consoles(360/PS3) had growing pains of being HD and pushed graphics over framerates.

Killzone 2 multiplayer was pure fun if the input lag didnt bother you too much. I got used to it quick and dumped many hours into warzone. I actually liked the weighty, sluggish feel and that you had to really control your trigger, especially at range. Hip firing felt so good, more natural than aiming down sights and I think that was another nag a lot of people had but I preferred it as you could control your movement better. I honestly think KZ2 was an accident because 3 and 4 were nowhere near as quality.

It's still playable on custom servers!
 
To me Killzone is a great launch window/year one franchise (this is also the reason why I feel KZ2 and 3 didn't sell as much as they could have).

Shadowfall, Mercenary, and Liberation were good complimentary introductory games for their systems.

I also think they are great introductory graphical showpieces for each system.

Mercenary looking like this on a vita still blows my mind:

Budget and sales aside, I think this time around they traded that same launch window/introductory graphical experience for either Ratchet and Clank or Demon's Souls...or both.

Give us Killzone 2 Remaster + Expanded MP mode - Like the Metroid Prime Remaster.
Gives Single Player and MultiPlayer fans get what they want.
Brings back an IP. Guerilla doesnt need to do it. Cheaper than creating a new game. Will sell 3+ Million. Get on with it

They'd mess with it too much and ruin what made it great. I think crisp visuals would take away the dark, gritty vibe.
