Sony shuts down Bluepoint Studios

This has to be the most confusing shutdowns we've seen in some time.

I would like to know internally what was going on with the team that made them shut them down because for the most part Sony is usually been like extremely lenient with teams, like to the point of them literally releasing multiple bad games.

But blue point never really released anything bad.... So I'm not entirely sure what could have occurred in that time frame.

Its odd cause I would assume them doing more ports to PC would mean they would need Blue Point more.
Housemarquee will go if Saros is a flop.

I mean, before this I would have never thought that, but now....anyone is up to get axed.

Hey kid, I saw you put new paint and tires on that old bike. Here's $10,000: go design & manufacture a bike from the ground up that sells 500,000 units. Thanks!

Tango's games were library of hit and miss and their games were generally expensive to develop. Their most expensive project Ghostwire was a commercial flop that cost millions.

And?

There's teams that were left in the dust anyway with Mikami's retirement. Ghostwire is mainly Bethesda's era. Microsoft had said just before they needed more games like Hi-Fi rush and then closed the studio. Make it make sense.

What I suspected (if true).

How much did Demon Souls sell?

Sure, but I would have thought MS would have wanted an Evil Within 3 before doing all of that. I'm not saying Ghostwire was some great game, merely that the team maybe cause have gotten another shot with Evil Within and if that did well, make them the team that just does that or something.

Sony might be moving on from BP cause they likely have a stable of other port teams, but we don't have much teams in existence that can do an RE type title. That is a rare talent only a very small handful of teams really have.

*buy a studio known for remakes/remasters*
*don't give them games to work on*
*shut them down because they never created anything*

Why does it feel like they bought them just because they didn't want Xbox to buy them?

And that decision have a long lasting effect. And Mikami didn't "retire". He left, citing personal reasons. Who knows what those reasons are. It could be related to mismanagement of launching games that weren't commercial success, that eventually carried on up until their closure.

If the new god of war remake is anything to go by they will just use their main teams for those remakes.

Just like Phil of MS, Hermen is hard to get rid because it needs board voting. Sadly the board, all kiss Hermens ass. Its up to the highest head and thats Sony Japan b

This Hulst cunt needs to go. Enough of this Dutch clown already.
Not shocking it is a Dutch guy, a European, with a bad decision. Have you seen how dumb, twisted and sick mind EU right now? Voting that a biological man a transgender is a woman , while also rejecting that only women that gets pregnant.

Does this guy deliberately act like he's thick as buffalo shit or what? He wants a guy who makes Hulst look like a genius in comparison to save them?

Maybe that's the problem. Keeping them together seems like such a no brainer even a moron like Spencer could do it.

Bluepoint has been succeeding since 2006. Then Sony buys them in 2021 and drives them into the crapper in less than 5 years. This is clearly not on Bluepoint.

That sounds much too reasonable for a UI of that colour. This person should come over here after their inevitable ban :pie_open_mouth:.
It really isn't, how is muh revenue important when talking about Bluepoint, but not Media Molecule or Bend that don't have any games released in years? I'm not wanting them to be shutdown, just following the logic of that comment

It also missing the fact that Bluepoint excelled at an specific task and were forced to do something way above their capabilities, they were less than 100 in the team, when Sony knows full well that GAAS trash needs armies of devs to keep pumping and updating said games in order to maintain popularity

I dfidn't mean that I agree with the opinion, just that it wasn't totally crazy.

What in the ever-living fuck is going on at PlayStation HQ? Here we all were thinking they were deep into developing the next great remake or - better yet - new IP. Stop taking pages out of Xbox's book Sony, buying studios and shuttering them is *their* domain.

Yeah man, majority of EU has gone full retard. Its really bad!

Only Poland is against all that nonsense as far as I'm aware.

Tango was BY FAR Microsoft's cheapest studio to operate by virtue of being their smallest (in terms of headcount) by a wide margin AND being located in Japan where salaries are peanuts. All of their games would have been significantly less to develop than any other 1st party titles, their dollar cost run rate was likely 75%+ cheaper than every other Microsoft Game Studio.

That's a pity, but expected.

The Demon's Souls Remake is extremely pretty, if Sony executives weren't idiots, they would hire FS to help Bluepoint to make a sequel and a Bloodborne Remaster.

After that Bluepoint would have enough experience to make their own Souls game without help.

But obviously Sony management sucks, so years after Bluepoint last game they killed the studio.

Sony is very lucky to have been in a dominant position when this generation started IMO. They currently seem almost as incompetent as MS at green lighting the right games and managing studios IMO.

This closure is about Sony seeing GaaS as their one and only future. They don't want any more boomer single player games. They have no direct competitor, and no need to dump $100 million into funding a more diverse 1st party catalog. Bluepoint failed their GaaS initiative catastrophically so they get a catastrophic closure.

Sony likely sees Media Molecule as their most prized and valuable studio because if they're not already making a Roblox competitor, they're viewed as their best and only real shot at one.

Media Molecule next project must be amazing b/c they would be the first option to get shut down for doing basically nothing for a whole generation.

It's baffling to me why Bluepoint gets shut down for being a lean and efficient studio that's full of talent. It's not their fault they had to make a stupid GoW GaaS game. It takes so much time and resources to build up a studio and shutting it down just b/c they don't have another project lined up just feels like a waste of resources. They can be put to work on another low budget remaster, something like Bloodborne?!

MM is working on Sony's answer to Roblox.
