Sony shuts down Bluepoint Studios

Well we are 6/7 years into ps5 lifespam ... can you show a better playstation remake than Demos Souls this whole gen ?

People are talking like Demon souls quality remakes are popping out like crazy and is very easily done.

"Well sony can divert to china or use ai or whatever" well sure... where's the proof ? Where's the remake that shows they dont need Bluepoint anymore because anyone can do it ?

Yeah.. im not buying it ... for me they just didnt care about bluepoint because their gaas strategy dosent accommodates this type of business anymore, its not were the money is, so pull the plug and fuck quality single player remakes.

Sure God of War if done correctly by Santa Monica will probably be good, but thats it, you can forget about bloodborne and other legacy games not already attached to current studios being done.

Theres no alternative universe were you shitcan bluepoint while at the same time thinking "well who can do this awsome bloodborne remake?"
Doesn't matter how good they are if the other studios are not willing to let them remake their old games .

I hope the team starts again under a different name. Bluepoint is too valuable to this industry to be discharded like this.

Sony continues to be....just so fucking awful.

  • Lead story: Sony is reportedly shutting down Bluepoint Games (about 70 jobs impacted), with the studio said to be closing in March after a "recent business review."
  • Why people are furious: Bluepoint's track record (e.g., Shadow of the Colossus remake, Demon's Souls remake) makes this feel like burning elite talent instead of redeploying it.
  • Core rant energy (DF-style):
    • "This is one of the worst decisions Sony's made in years."
    • "If Bluepoint isn't safe, who is?"
    • The blame gets aimed squarely at upper management strategy and the GaaS obsession.
  • The ugly chain of events as framed in the discussion:
    • Bluepoint was put on (or chose to pursue) a live-service God of War–related project.
    • Sony's live-service pullback/cancellations left Bluepoint without a shipped title under PlayStation Studios, then the studio reportedly spent time pitching new projects.
  • "This didn't have to happen" bucket (missed layups):
    • Print-money work: high-end remakes/remasters/legacy collections/modernization passes.
    • PC ports / PS5 upgrades for older catalog titles (the "Sony back catalog is insane, why is it still trapped?" argument).
    • Support + tech integration: Bluepoint's tooling/engine expertise could've boosted other internal teams instead of being deleted.
  • Bigger fear: this reads like a symptom of an industry-wide pattern:
    • "No one's safe" vibes for other first-party teams that haven't shipped this gen.
    • The conversation pivots to the broader rot: chasing the next forever-game ("beat Roblox/Fortnite") and treating anything less as failure.
  • Counterpoint raised in the discussion:
    • Bluepoint likely wanted to break out of being "the remake studio," and the live-service pitch may have been part of that.
    • Even if that gamble failed, closure shouldn't be the default punishment for one wrong strategic bet—especially for a ~70-person team.
  • The quote that makes it sting more: Sony's spokesperson statement is basically "they're amazing… anyway we're closing them."
  • NeoGAF debate prompt (copy/paste ready):
    • If Bluepoint is gone, who fills the "premium remake/remaster" role at Sony now?
    • Was this inevitable once they pivoted to live service, or pure mismanagement?
    • What's the smarter play in 2026: fewer mega-budget bets, or a return to mid-tier, faster-turnaround prestige projects that keep talent intact?

A YouTuber and industry analysis bellularnews made a great video explaining why Sony shutdown Bluepoint and explained that Sony statement about shutting down the studio is nothing but bullshit

Sony shut them down because they no longer fit playstation plans , and not only that but they could have sold them easily to another publisher but decided not to do so , so one can have access to their talent and technology and compete with playstation.
