Resident Evil Requiem |OT| Through the Darkness

Can someone confirm to me if controlling the player still feels like moving a tank?

I've always enjoyed the games, but the stiff movements for the characters has always irked me a bit.

If you didn't like it in the previous games you'll hate playing Grace

I'm not sure why they removed rooms staying red on the map that you still need to get items from. That was so useful, although it's kind of a hand holding thing. But it eliminates alot of going back to the areas not knowing if you missed something.
Agreed, I have to assume they didn't want people to be too reliant on it and wanted to encourage properly checking the environment instead of just the map, but it still would've been better to have it than not.

Game is legit amazing, capcom just keeps winning.

Wooo! Congrats!

I just got to the

Resolute Agent: Complete the main story on at least Standard (Classic) difficulty.
Rising Agent: Complete the main story on at least Standard (Modern) difficulty.

If I finish the game on Standard Classic mode, will that unlock both trophies, or do I need to complete it separately in Modern mode as well?

Can't speak for this game, but all the other RE Engine Resident Evil games that have difficulty challenges like this give you all the difficulties under the one you beat it on.

I finally found a game where I prefer the filter to base. The apocalypse filter looks so good to me.

Speaking of Grace running, has anyone noticed the only time she actually does run is at the beginning with the first large creature? She is moving but also keeps falling and stumbling. Maybe that's why she quits lol. I thought I was wrong but I've played the beginning 3 times in different difficulties and platforms and she definitely covers ground faster.

One of the first mods will probably add that animation to the whole game. Tripping and almost face planting for 20 hours while naked.

A couple of points.

Character switching is happening more often than I expected and this care center segment is MASSIVE. This one place has more landmass and has taken me more time than RE2 remake already.

I noticed she runs slightly faster in safe rooms. It's like wtf lady you need to be faster when things are actually trying to kill you :messenger_grinning_smiling:

She also does this when she's being chased by the first zombie, it makes me think they made her slow on purpose so they could have her move fast during sequences like that to drive home how desperate she is during them.

Anyone getting some weird textures issue going around with shadows?

Im at the very beginning and shadows, when you move the camera and look at walls, seem very pixelated?

Its hard to explain, but they dont feel natural.

Im on PS5 Pro btw.

Yes

You'll also notice shimmering and especially sizzling.

It is what it is

Eariler I mentioned the performance on 4090s was not correct and it turns out it's the Nvidia driver. Any driver past 581.47 will run significantly worse than previous. And when I say significant, I mean significant.

Driver 591.86
40 fps
204w

Driver 581.47
81 fps
338w

Literally a 100% increase in framerate in the opening section of the game. It's mostly been 4090s I've seen with this issue but there even people with 4080s that are reporting anywhere from a 50-80% increase in framerates by using older drivers.

Yeah, its specially noticeable on first person, on dark areas and when you use the flashlight, like toggling on and off.

Gotta say, it instantly popped into my eyes and Im not impressed. I paid more attention to graphics considering this is a PSSR 2.0 hands on.

Its getting traction. All the praise to the graphics on the Pro but there are clear noticeable issues.

Last thing before I buy... how puzzle heavy is this, RE2 level, or Re4 level? Is ashleys section a puzzle every 5 minutes?

How would you guys compare k/m and controller? I feel like it is designed around the slowness of stick aiming/looking and even doubled down on that. I wonder if mouse will make this too lightweight and snappy with acceleration turned off completely...

Same as RE4R, moving feels better on a controller, aiming feels better on k/m. If you prefer k/m over controller I'd suggest setting the camera to 1st person for both characters.

I am playing with a controller I just find it more relaxing, sometimes shooting zombies heads can be wonky with a controller since they're swaying around a lot.

I used DLSS swapper to update the .dll's in all the DLSS stuff and it actually appears to look a lot better fo rme. It could be because i had reboot or is a placebo effect, but either way I a lot happier with how it looks.

Alright, 6 hours in, exploring everything and getting everyting, I'm in the mines with Grace. I read briefly from someone that the game is evenly split, but so far, it's been 80% graces, 20% leon which is a bit dissapointing. Hopefully I'm wrong and hopefully Leon gets his longer part where you have to solve puzzles and stuff with him, because so far, this is pretty much RE7 and 8 and less 2R/4R. My other gripe is the fucking FOV like how the fuck do you still not implement one Capcom after everyone complaining since 7. Fucking idiots. Game also forces ray reconstruction on Path Tracing which adds a lot of shimmering and wobbliness to shadows and certain textures but the lighting is far too good to drop PT. There are some microstutters, but overall runs fine for me. Now what is truly impressive is the animations. They've gone above and beyond and they're amazing, from the big guy trying to fit through hallways and doors, to zombies tripping down, good stuff. Almost as good as Naughty Dog.

Goddamn man this game's a dandy on Pathtracing 4k. There are moments in this game where you just gotta stop and appreciate how gorgeous it is.

I played this game almost all day, and I can't remember the last time that happened. It's brilliant, the sequel to RE2 we didn't realise we needed.

No regrets from playing it all in 3rd person either.

The FOV is actually a hindrance, at least in first person (and super ultrawide) from the early game I am at. I have missed object markers that were below screen level and ended up having to look at the map to see the icon was then added.

I still find after turning the camera some stuff at the edges of the screen kind look like they have screen tearing or something on them. Also, and seemingly at random, 1 object in a room can have a super low resolution texture compared to the rest and it painfully stands out. Even some blood splatter or the tongue of a certain enemy lady are the same.

These are the type of games you buy new consoles for. When you hear and read people especially in the press, asking what do gamers want in a almost bemused tone , it's pretty simple, games of a high quality that are worth the consumers time and money. Games that speak for themselves and don't need shills/influencers to damage control in order to make profit.

I was hoping there wouldn't be an area that would make replays a slog but the basement is ten times worse than the baby section of village. The games pacing was near perfect until this area. Game could've been perfect if it weren't for this.

So far this feels like a proper RE game, more so then RE4, weird I know.
And it's not just Grace's sections
It's like they've balanced RE4 back to the old school RE's and enhanced it.
Seriously, unless there's some story beats later you can easily pretend the 7/8 didn't happen.
Talk about a course correction.
And the Zombies little quirks are amazing, and
did you see what happens when they get the Chainsaw 🤣

I couldn't get through that 'The Girl' section quick enough! It was quite straightforward in hindsight, though I did make a meal of it at times.

I'm currently working my way through the Care Centre and I like how some of the undead have certain personalities/traits. This area does have a classic Resi feel to it. I'm really enjoying the Grace sections so far.

The visuals are top-notch. I've been especially impressed with the lighting and shadows, especially when wandering through dimly lit areas with a lighter or torch.

As somebody that usually struggles with horror games, I'm having a surprisingly good time with this one.

I also have a 32", I think I should run this ratio lol.
do it, you ll not regret

what resolution, upscaling, and graphics settings do you have here, it looks great.
For Path Tracing
- 2560x1080
- DLSS Q for 30fps or B for 45fps.
- Graphics on High ( except textures cause VRAM )

I did not update my drivers, also i can go high res if i drop path tracing, but it looks so good to me that i ll take the hit since the IQ is very good for me.

My copy won't be here til Monday thanks to Amazon who's late on virtually all releases now. Can't remember the last time I got a game on release day from them.
