They're making it more easier for some competitor to come along the way and provide an os that makes sense for gaming.

Typical kneejerk reaction from people who still run Windows 10 because they don't know how to confirgure a PC. The OS they hated when they were on Windows 8, which is the OS they hated when they were on Windows 7, etc. Same shit with every release.
Neural Processing Unit. It's stupid because its a completely unnecessary requirement. Windows are just in cahoots with hardware manufacturers. They do this to push new hardware sales. They did it with windows 11 too and then removed some of those requirements later to boost win 11 adoption.

I've been dual-booting Mint, enough is enough. The indies I tried work, RE9 works. A lot of apps are now in the browser or browser based. Music and video software probably not great, but MacOS is good for that.

If it's subscription based, they'll likely charge for extra features most of us don't want anyway. Most people aren't like most of us though, they'll pay because they actually want all of that garbage or because they don't know any better.
That's just from a consumer standpoint.

This is making a lot of big assumptions about the people commenting
. I do use Windows 11, and I know what I'm doing. I shouldn't have to spend more and more time and effort every time fighting Microsoft to make their OS not horrible. Windows 11 takes several hours, mostly getting rid of predatory Onedrive and getting it to stop hiding things from you, this sounds like it'll be way longer with all the Copilot crap, and more importantly why would I pay a subscription for a terrible OS? Linux isn't perfect, but it's free and getting better all the time while Windows is getting worse all the time.and for people who aren't gamers, Apple is right there and at least they respect your privacy and don't force AI on you. I hope this goes really badly for Microsoft.

TPM and secure boot etc were obviously for improving windows shitty security and probably the whole reason 11 exists - otherwise all the changes to 11 would have just been updates to 10, but they had to have a new number because of these hardware requirements. I don't think MS wanted to ever have a new OS version - 10 would have been it. I don't think they put in these security requirements to help sell hardware because obviously everyone could just stay on 10 if their hardware didn't meet requirements - which is essentially the same OS - which a lot did.

It worked for office 365, the subscription part at least. People had no choice really and just roll with it. They are probably hoping for the same with Windows. Let's be honest outside of this gaming form, hardly anyone is going to swith to Linux or convert en mass to MacOS. I hate it from top to bottom, but they are greedy.

Can't avoid Windows for work, but at home I am already on Arch KDE since a few months (and Lubuntu on the laptop for years). Works fine with some different problems but generally, especially Gnome stuff, usual apps should be idiot proof.
