Yep, crazy how borderlands 4 needed more time like perfomence/ui bug even endgames, i think marathon failLooking like it'll have a small spike as weekends go, but the likelihood of it reaching beyond 100k is thinning by the day.
The fact that there is no endgame as of yet(something games of this nature *do* need) for at least a couple of more weeks, in addition to the first major update not being until April puts this on a slippery slope, indeed.
Reminded of how Borderlands 4 didn't have much of an endgame, either.
Even with the delay, this game needed more time in the oven, but they used up all the time they were allowed.
Yes, they did improvements, but things like the UI should've been called out ages ago and it's perplexing how it slipped under the radar.
It feels like the delay was the max for upper suits to hit a "financial" date and now it may pay a dear price for it, as the loss could be bigger than if they'd taken the financial hit for missing a quarter goal.
This game will struggle to hit 100k, it likely already peaked and it's only down from here.Looking like it'll have a small spike as weekends go, but the likelihood of it reaching beyond 100k is thinning by the day.

Slay the spire is only 1 game, there are thousands of other games like this on Steam with under 10 CCU.lol what kind of game is slay the spire 2? it looks like magic gathering clone?
I guess gamers are tired with shooters with big learning curve(gacha) and need to excerise your reaction times.
lazy spire > pewpew marathon, that is embarrassing.
Yeah, not seeing hit 100K either. I think it matches or slightly surpasses 88K. Might make it to 90K, but it's only at 52K right now. I was thinking the highly positive ratings would give it a boost, but it doesn't seem like it.This game will struggle to hit 100k, it likely already peaked and it's only down from here.
There's way too much competition, Marathon is good but good isn't enough.
You have to be exceptional, to stand a chance.
Not sure how it's doing on the PlayStation side but, has to be hoping the numbers are higher over there.Yeah, not seeing hit 100K either. I think it matches or slightly surpasses 88K. How is it doing on PlayStation?
Yes, out of the gate a somewhat healthy sign of success would have been even 200k CCU on launch day for Steam. The thing about all those other games is they had huge beginnings in the 400 500 600k up to 2 million etc... That to me shows they have something despite the numbers falling back eventually. Marathons numbers are so weak as I've said before no way bungie and sony are happy, infact if I were sony I'd be pretty pissed
We'll see. I think it can hit 100k today or tomorrow. It'll likely hit its all time peak tomorrow afternoon barring some miracle.Yeah, not seeing hit 100K either. We need to wait for the weekend before jumping on conclusions, everybody is at work
Destiny 3 will take at least 5 years to develop and be very expensive. These numbers are ok for an indie dev but you cant sustain a studio like Bungie with this. The question is what is next for them. Either they go all-in in a huge project (Destiny 3) or they lay off half their staff and work on a smaller scope.
They can't attract enough people to populate new games because all the normies are weebs these days, and the weebs have their own anime games now (most of them GaaS too). It's not a GaaS specific problem, the reality is the gaming market is contracting.
Consumers only buy specific games, doesn't matter if it's single player or GaaS.
However, budgets keep going up.
This is concerning.
Ideally they get shutdown, and absorbed. A studio with destiny in its name doesn't deserve to have a legacy. These numbers are ok for an indie dev but you cant sustain a studio like Bungie with this. 88k will likely but it's all time peak, barring some miracle.
I don't think Bungie is going to be around after this.Ideally they get shutdown, and absorbed. A studio with destiny in its name doesn't deserve to have a legacy.

Horrible?
No
But way below Sony's expectations?
Yes
I wonder how is Marathon performance against RE9 on PSN.
Yes, the entire staff is panic mode but won't make it appear as such. Its horrible for Bungie standarts. You could expect that numbers from a random low ass devs nobody heard about. Bungie is know worldwide and put up things like Destiny.
Wouldn't cross-play prioritize PC if you're on PC?I have cross play on rarely match up with PlayStation guys, makes me wonder how the game sold on that side.
The waste of money in this space is mind-boggling. As I mentioned yesterday in another thread, Infinity Ward had around 100 employees (many of them not actually devs) when they made Call of Duty 4. That game changed the landscape, a brilliant campaign and arguably the most important multiplayer mode ever made. It launched with 16 maps, many of which are now considered all time classics. These numbers are ok for an indie dev but you cant sustain a studio like Bungie with this. The question is what is next for them. Either they go all-in in a huge project (Destiny 3) or they lay off half their staff and work on a smaller scope.

Marathon may not provide sufficient cash for Sony to justify funding Bungie further.
Destiny 3 will realistically be a next gen title, and release in the 2030s assuming it even happens.
With that said, there's no guarantee that will succeed given how far out that is and whether people will still care about the IP.
I don't think Bungie is going to be around after this.
"Sony shuts down Bungie" announcement may happen later this year.
Nah, it'll almost certainly hit a higher peak tonight than it did during the week. If it doesn't then that means a huge # of gamers dropped it/refunded it.It already reached its peak.
I'm going by how these situations usually play out.
Man pubg what a fucking beast, that's wild... Not into BR but that's wild how that game still cranksComparing now to similar hour yesterday (9am EST), the trending is weak. And today is Marathon's first weekend as a brand new game.
Not going to even bother with Slay the Spire 2 as that's already growing. Now at 500k+.
Marathon
46.5k vs 43.5k (+3k / +7%)
ARC
134k vs 115k (+19k / +16%)
RE9
153.5k vs 136k (+17.5k / +13%)
Deadlock
70k vs 54k (+16k / +30%)
Delta Force
165.5k vs 162.5k (+3k / +2%)
Apex
224k vs 215k (+9k / +4%)
PUBG
732k vs 705k (+27k / +4%)
It's interesting seeing player count and hourly trending. Some games like Slay the Spire and CS2 are huge in Asian region. So peak time gaming is around now as it's the evening there. USA heavy games skew to 8-11 EST. Then ARC skews highest at around 3-5 pm EST. So I'm going to assume that's a high skew to European gamers which is a higher peak than USA peak times.Man pubg what a fucking beast, that's wild... It's more for me the age of that game and it holding over 700k, just seems most games really fall off eventually but especially older games and that game is how old now 7 8 years? Just looked 9 years old damnIt's interesting seeing player count and hourly trending. Some games like Slay the Spire and CS2 are huge in Asian region. How is slay queen tho?More importantly, Slay has like 470k people online playing, cheesuz.
Depends, it can also just match you with any available players from the pool of PS/PC.Wouldn't cross-play prioritize PC if you're on PC?
Just broke 525k.More importantly, Slay has like 470k people online playing, cheesuz.
Wait, you mean numbers are supposed to go up during the weekend?!Just broke 525k.
DEckbuilding ps exclusives enroute lets go!!!More importantly, Slay has like 470k people online playing, cheesuz.
Wtf is hunt showdown?Anecdote that obviously isn't indicative of the game's performance but I found it funny that last night everyone I know who bought it ended up on Hunt: Showdown all night instead. It was like watching dominos fall on my PSN list lol
