Now.I don't claim to know how many players it needs to be a viable long-term investment but at what point does Sony start ringing the alarm bells with Marathon?
Years back they were already gassing people when Marathon was in development and D2 had about 100k+ people playing it. During those content updates, it'd bump to 200-300k CCU. Hard to decipher exactly the trend as Steamdb charts for old years are clumped into large time periods.
Now D2 trends to 5-10k daily and Marathon started at 88k and trending down fast.
The next D2 DLC is June. Going by recent DLCs, it bumps the user base to 50-100k depending which one it was, but then drops fast again. Bungie's past layoffs (two of them) were even after getting those huge spikes above. So even that didnt save them from cuts.
