cologne-age 2.0: Recommend and share fragrances here.

IDKFA

I am Become Bilbo Baggins
The only fragrance thread I could find had the same title, but hadn't been used in years, so I'd thought I'd make a new one.

Juat a thread to talk all things fragrance. I'm a bit of a fragrance freak and have a fair few in rotation depending on setting and season, so I thought it would be great to see if there are other fragrance lovers here on Gaf.

As summer is approaching, this is going to be my summer casual day fragrance. It's probably one of, if not the best, fragrance produced by JPG.

jean-paul-gaultier-le-beau-paradise-garden-eau-de-parfum-spray-420x420.jpg

With a name like Paradise Garden, you're expecting tropical and that's exactly what you get. Top notes include coconut, mint and ginger, with other notes including fig and Saddlewood.

As an EDP it has some decent longevity of 6–8+ hours on skin, with noticeable projection for the first few hours before settling closer to the skin. Projection isn't the best. Doesn't go full beast mode, but it does the job and to be fair, that's probably best for the hot summer days.

If you're looking for a summer fragrance, this is one I'd recommend for the day.

Do you have one you use all year round? A few that you use for different occasions/seasons?

I wouldn't claim to be an expert at all. But Creed's Silver Mountain Water and Guerlain's Habit Rouge are my two go-tos recently

I wouldn't claim to be an expert at all. But Creed's Silver Mountain Water

Great choice and one that can be worn almost all year round.

Clearly you know a bit because Creed is in the expensive taste bracket. Not a fragrance one would probably start with or blind buy.

I use this Creed Aventus clone called Intense Man. It's like $30 and pretty good. Clone fragrances have gotten way better. I aint spending more than $50 on cologne.

This guys channel is pretty good.

Been wanting to try habit rouge.

These 2 are what I currently wear:

Aqua Di Parma. Very classy choice.

Clearly a man of taste who knows his fragrances. That is a classic heritage brand, and that's reflected in the cost. Not sampled that one before, but it looks like a great summer choice.

I was thinking of grabbing a 50ml Blu Mediterraneo EDP when I get my bonus in April.

Thank you for your kind words. Let me know what you think of the La Riserva releases, I have yet to smell them.

So, what's the best place to get samples? I don't want to buy cologne blind.

Depends where you are. If you're interested in anything that's not designer, typically the web shops that sell them will sell you 2ml decants. For designer stuff and that includes things like Acqua de Parma that belongs to LVMH you'll need a third party decanter and some of these have known to sell diluted product to increase their margins. In the EU, tryasample.eu and fragrantworldshop are often recommended.

Used to wear Nikos Apostolopoulos' "Sculpture" for more than a decade but...they fucked up the formula (or more likely, watered it down) and I stopped getting it.
Same thing with the Joop (red one), this also used to last for hours on my skin but the latest batches I tried evaporated after not even 2 hours...

Then it was 1 million by Paco Rabane for a couple of years, and now I've settled with Armani's "Stronger with you" intense which is an EDP and not EDT and the thing is a beast, easily 8+ hours of longevity and incredible projection.

I also have Paco's...the one in the Robot bottle (fuck if I remember its name) and it's mediocre AF.

I just spent $300 for my kid this Saturday for cologne, feels bad. Got him some Valentino stuff which was $135 and this one for $200 2oz. I tested a lot of them at Sephora and the elixir was probably the best smell to me.

YSL is a good choice.

I take it the Valentino is one of the Born in Roma range. I have the Uomo Intense and it's fantastic.

Your kid has great taste (shame about your wallet)

Cheap bottle of Nautica Blue is my go to daily working in an office, doesn't project much and it's a fresh scent that last's long enough and isn't offensive to any noses. I've had plenty of others cheap or expensive but would like to find an "enhanced" version of the Nautica Blue scent. Haven't found one yet, any suggestions would be great.

Armani rarely miss with their fragrances. The Stronger with You range has been a massive hit for them, and rightly so. Banging range.

Phantom.

I've never used any of that range, but heard mixed things.

Unlike Armani, Rabanne are very hit and miss.

Gucci Guilty is my current favorite. It's also a bit pricey. It has everything I've liked about other name brand scents into a single scent. It comes off sweet, but it's got more of a base scent. It's not as rich as the day goes on. A few others I like are Hugo, Viktor Rolf Spicebomb, and Nautica Blue. I have a sample of Dior Sauvage. I'm not sure if I'm a fan. It's a bit too musty for my tastes. A very cheap cologne I have is YCZ.

I only use acqua di giò, invictus from paco rabanne and that's amore from gay mattiolo, fresh and light.

Fuck all the musky shit that suck the air from a room and make it unbreathable...

If she want some musky, she can sniff my crotch.

Stopped using big mainstream brands recently and I'm wondering why I never did so sooner. Loving the ones I got from Sentir and Petite Mort. The former delivers the fragrances in a very luxurious boxset as well and comes with a twistcapsule, for when you're on the road, to boot:

You can get much better value out of local brands or perfumes that are "inspired by" (they usually advertise as such). The perfumes last longer and are cheaper as well. Stop paying a premium for a brandname (with, more often than not, a shitty atomizers as well) and just get a quality one from a smaller company instead.

My ex wouldn't let me wear cologne (long story). I like woody and Bergamot scents please recommend me some fragrances.

Montblanc Explorer is a good pick. Not too expensive and fits the bill with a bergamot opening. Very versatile as well. Can be worn any place and any time.

Bunch of metrosexuals.

Real men know how to groom themselves properly.

Women also love men who smell good and not of Old Spice and BO.

Remember the wise words;

"No spray, no lay"

Or my favourite variation;

"No splash, no gash"

Hacivat from Nishane might be up to your alley, but watch out for the oak moss blast! Also, Y edp from YSL (you are correct, the name doesn't make any sense but that's how their marketing department rolls).

Let me put you niggas on to some shit. Your bitch going to be leaning in for extra sniffs, wondering how the hell you smell this good. You cant be out here in 2026 wearing designer fragances. It's all about the niche stuff.

Niche stuff indeed! Going to check these out.

I've never smelled Nautica blue, what do you like about it?
Slight musk scent with just a fresh, light smell that's good in the Florida heat. Hard to place it butbit just smells clean like linen witg some aquatic scent as they put it. You really have to absolutely douse yourself in it to be obnoxious in elevator.

If you haven't tried already: acqua di gio (the original), millesime imperial, invictus parfum, mirto di panarea, allure homme sport, colonia pura. Gotta be frank aquatics aren't my jam so I did some database surfing to find these. Remember to never buy blind, always try them first!

What about Jo Malone any recommendations?

Have a couple I use but only when I feel dandy, which isn't that often at the mo. Mxxx is an interesting one - lots of ambergris giving it a little shitty scent. I like it, not everyone's brew - you may love it/may give it the fuck off

Bourbon Street is great I think - my capacity to describe a scent is quite limited, but if you like a nice autumnal bourbon-type waft (fairly sweet) then it's worth a butchers...

Not from me. It's not something I've used. Prehaps Bitmap Frogs Bitmap Frogs or Nocty Nocty can help with that as they're clealry super frag heads.

Yeah.

You not only know your shit, but have fucking great taste as well 👏

I have a natural musk of fanny juice and kebab.

Day to day I wear Mont Blanc Explorer Extreme.
Dressing up varies. I like Reflection Man and Ombre Leather right now. Creed is ok at times, more the Viking and Santal ranges though.

There's only two stores here that have jo malone and I hate going there to shop :P

Thanks brother!

Jo Malone is aight.. it's like a step stone between designer frag slop and entry level niche. I would say like 10% of their collection is worth a sniff but nothing I would wear on the regular.

You guys need to get into houses like I listed above, your entire world will be blown open. There are smells and vibes you can only get from those places. Amouage, xerjioff, shit is expensive but it's worth it for a good parfum with high quality ingredients. Stuff you only need 1-2 sprays and lasts all day, everybody you are around is going to go wild over you.

I don't say it lightly, I've had chicks in the club come up to me and flat out ask in front of their dude what I'm wearing cause I smell so good. Naxos is unreal. The best thing to do is get samples, cause this shit is not cheap, a good bottle of Amouage will set you back $500 easy. But it's the kind of thing you buy once and use sparingly when you wanna make a mark you know? If you want a day-to-day wear and still smell amazing go for MFK.

There is your answer D Days like these...

although, I wouldn't call designer slop. A lot of designer frags are adored by the biggest frag experts.

However, not all designer fragrances are equal. For example, YSL is in a different league compared Moschino. JPG is miles ahead of Ralph Lauren etc etc.

I think designer brands are best suited to most people and your everyday use. Unless you're rich as fuck and can afford your everyday to be something wild like Zoologist or..........

Something like the above. Fantastic taste, sure, but the cost puts it out of reach of many.

My man, if you're using Grand Soir by MFK as your everyday then you've won in life. Expensive and classy.

ha I aint living like that man. I wear MFK on date nights and sometimes at work if I got a big meeting or something.

On the daily my current go to is actually Maison Margiela piece called Jazz Club. It costs like $80.. it smells niche but not the kind of thing everyone is wearing either. I've never met anyone else wearing it. The girls in the office go crazy over it.

I wear an old joint by Tom Ford a fair bit too, Tobacco vanille (OG bottle from before the reformulation, which is trash sadly) back then stuff was cheaper. I got a 100ml of private blend for like $150,. It's pretty funny cause the Tom Ford gets more compliments than 90% of my collection, which is wild, as it's a pretty basic scent just done very well.

I've noticed Parfum going up in price, drastically. The one I want is now over 200 bucks. With reason... that shit lasts like half a day or more, while EW DE TOILET lasts a measly 4 hours, and sometimes not even that.

pro tip - get yourself some molecule 01. Spray a couple spritz of that on your skin before you apply any EDT - you will get almost double the longevity as it acts a kind of layer that doesn't seap into your skin so fast.

Thank You, for the tip... I'm actually in awe how useful this could be..

2 racks for an EDT? bro thats crazy work lmao

I bet if you name the frag I could give you a niche EDP that slaps harder for less or similar price. Your boy nose been in thousands of bottles.

I'm a novice! I just like smelling good for myself and my girl... it's rough out here... too many red flags...
