Marathon |OT| A Shell of its Former Self.

So when you're playing squads you can come up against 4-6 squads based on the map, but what about playing solo? Is it the same amount of players or is it more because everyone is solo?
 
Did they fix the pc performance?

I have a 7800x3d and 5090 and was only getting like 60% gpu utilization if I remember. I saw bungie acknowledged it and said they were working on a fix
 
So yeah thermal scopes need to go or have a very good counter against them. Literally impossible to deal with that if you're caught off guard or in the open. Or at a distance. Or are using smokes. Which they can hide behind. But you can't see them.
 
Weird they didn't do an update today to the store. Seems dumb a GaaS game isn't injecting new cosmetics weekly like all do.

They need to bring something really cool to make people go "ok so there is some cool skins."
 
First round of the night with randoms and we rolled over two teams like they were nothing. Grabbed a blue BR33 Volley Rifle off another Thief.

Really liking the sniper and precision rifles. Right now I'm using the Hardline precision rifle and it's great.

Damn it I want to get off work and jump in to my ghost now. I have been playing as the medic, and vandal. The thief grappling hook is crazy how much momentum and movement options you have. I want to try and make a build that specializes in speed for that shell. My silent ninja dreams where i swing and jump from roof to roof has got so hyped to see if I can do it! I also want to play at outpost but I need to level up some more! Also mainly a solo player but those crew runs recently have been so much fun with randoms.

Played all shells today to get white skins for each.

Really liking thief especially in groups. She can do some seriously mental stuff. The drone is better than recon for info, and slapping a claymore on it to flu death into people is hilarious.

Thief is by far my favorite shell. I've played Thief probably 90% of my runs.

Grappling up through a window or onto a roof is so good. Plus you can also do an angled swing which throws people off and looks cool. I keep forgetting you can put claymores on the drone.

In Bungie's Marathon (the extraction shooter released on PS5 and other platforms in March 2026), when playing solo (via solo queue or "No Fill"), the number of other players (Runners) in a match varies by map but is generally lower than in trio/squad modes to balance the experience.

From player reports and guides:

Solo matches typically feature around 6-8 players total (meaning 5-7 other players besides yourself).

Some sources and community discussions (e.g., Reddit threads and Gamerant) note it as approximately 6 players on many maps, with occasional mentions of up to 8 depending on the map or queue population.

This contrasts with trio modes, where maps support higher counts like 12-18 players (4-6 trios).

There will be one around with a matching code, but you'll have to search for it. They only pop up on your HUD when you get pretty close. Activate the one with the matching number and take the card it spits out. Then it'll mark a spot across the map. Won't spoil the rest.
 
Quests are getting insaneo mode hard…

"In a single run, get a sample from bio research, go to quarantine to synth and inject yourself, now go kill a runner while it's active"

Holy shit man. The emergent situations, decision-making, skill use, cooperation. It's unbelievable.

Had the quest… was killing a vandal at exfil and we both get extracted as I was about to down him. Fuck.

My randos were pinging my objectives and straight peeling every enemy we came across. Managed to exfil with a full bag.
Then my work friend and I finally broke our losing streak.
 
Me and two friends had some great runs last night, also lost a few good items as well 🤣. Outpost is a seriously good map.
 
Had such an awful last match on Dire Marsh yesterday. Played with two randos who were apparently pre-made. No mics. Only the occasional text. They die (of course) I am left to fend for myself. It goes okay, despite using a free loadout. I do the quest that requires me to go from one end of the map to the other and finally at Quarantine. On the way I manage to find two keycards necessary to get some good loot. I get the good loot (blue sniper and an AR). But with only 3 minutes left on the clock I had to step it up, figuring Quarantine might be abandoned as I see a bunch of clanker bodies on the way.

No such luck.

Thing was POPULATED with Ghosts and other bullshit. I'm using the Assassin shell so I go invis, do the objective and go to the extract that's close by. However the quest does not complete... Apparently the botanical-virus-sample-whatever-the-fuck-quest requires you to not only drop a thing in the thing but also stick a thing inside your own thing as well. I go back and do this but I don't have invis or smokes... So I get blasted as I try to make it back to exfill again. I die. I quit. I go to bed angry.

Fuck this game is amazing.
 
Maintenance apparently. Is this the first since launch? Went down about an hour ago, supposedly for 3.5 hours according to Discord. So 6-9:30PM for me... prime time son! Prime time!

  • Increased the amount of starting ammo in MIDA, CyberAcme, and Arachne free Sponsored Kits
  • Reduced the frequency UESC Grenadiers drop EMP grenades

Combat

  • Fixed an issue where players could sometimes die instantly in confinement events
  • Fixed an issue where the shield break screen effects could constantly play when you had a heal over time effect and a damage over time effect on you at the same time
  • Increased the range gunfire and explosions can be heard from

Weapons

  • Reduced visual clarity on targets with thermal scopes
  • Adjusted max distances for thermal highlight:
    • Pistols: 40 meters (down from 55)

Really good first update. Hope the thermal sights get nerfed even further though...

Could a PS5 player check if other players comms come through the TV speakers and not the controller speaker if you're not using a headset?

Holy shit i killed 3 players and soloed the yellow armor boss on perimeter. I used like 400 ammo and like 15 heals :D Shit was intense, got my first prestige cryo card aswell
