Oscars 2026 |OT|

Sinners was a very good, race swapped version of From Dusk 'til Dawn. The most it should win is an award for best remake.

One Battle is Hollywood pretending its still 2022. And it was boring as hell.

Aside from K-Pop, nobody is going to remember a single one of these films a decade from now.

I guess I'm in the minority here (heh, get it?) but I loved Sinners. There were subtle differences in the ways Smoke and Stack acted and the juke joint scene with Miles Caton was mesmerizing!

I get that many of y'all didn't get it or weren't enjoying it and think it's a From Dusk til Dawn rip-off (it's not) ... But in some ways it reminded me of The Color Purple... A movie that got robbed that year.

Sinners is a genre movie with a few interesting ideas and a few striking visuals, but doesn't really rise above its subject matter. The Color Purple however was a movie in an entire different category. That was a movie about real people, a movie that made you feel for the (female) characters, that left you thinking when it ended. I bought The Color Purple on Blu-Ray years ago and I probably should rewatch it again. I'd never buy Sinners on Blu-Ray.

It's a boring generic k-pop song with horrible overdramatic and cheasy lyrics sung by bad singers.

I actually thought this was a pretty solid Oscars. I agree with most of the big category wins, especially OBAA for best picture. Michael B Jordan winning over Chalamat surprised me but I'm not that mad at it, his was a solid performance and I don't think there was one significantly better to point at.

"I'M HERE!" still sticks with me. Holy shit what a film!

Look at the mess left by those who attended the Oscars at the venue.

Didn't they claim to be very much in favor of the ecosystem and the environment?

You think golden is a good song?

My 10-year-old loves it. Professional vocal coaches have been praising EJAE's three-octave range and that high A5 for months. It's rare to see that kind of technical difficulty in a pop track, let alone one that sweeps awards season. Hard to argue with a Grammy winner, a Golden Globe winner, and now an Oscar winner. Oh and it hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks.

I think some folks have been listening to mumblecore rap, low vocal range whispered lyrics, and autotuned pop for so long they have forgotten what singing actually sounds like.

Imagine being the frontrunner for best actor, deciding to talk shit about ballet and opera, and then not winning. Lesson learned: don't fuck with the ballet and opera communities.

My hot take is that Mescal was better than Buckley and the kid was better than both. The kid was incredible. Might be my favourite child performance ever and his chemistry with Mescal and the twin was perfect.

Have you seen the other nominations? they nominate what's popular. K-pop Demon Hunters became so big that it's sweeping awards, it's winning based on it's social media presence. Your 10 year old loves it, as do many kids, because it's aimed at them. But they also love all sorts of stuff. It's like Justin Bieber, it's not his music they like, but the fact that all their friends talk about it. That's how it works with kid focused media.

Case in point, listen to 1:25 and onward. That's not carrying a note, that's scream singing.

Sinners stumbled at the goal line. The klan should have come during the night and been killed by the Vampires to give meaning to the leader's offer to join. Every moment of the film laid the groundwork for that to happen. Randomly switching to a "kill racists" 202x ending felt out of place.
I liked Sinners, but the scene at dawn definitely jumped the shark a bit. Thankfully the future scene was pretty cool, so it didn't end on a sour note.

Agreed about the kid. Buckley's performance is the one getting the attention, and I did think she was great, but the kid really impressed me. Fantastic performance at that age and dealing with some pretty heavy material.

Hard to argue
It's actually very easy to argue, because apparently there's a group of kpop stans that can't handle the fact that kpopdh is the one that's breaking all the records and not their precious kpop group of choice; with his name being "kpopsuperstar", and his delusional takes, he falls neatly in that group too.

Golden is not viewed as a good kpop song in any circle outside very young, it's kind of like a Taylor Swift song, it's super popular and catches the social media wave. I think the movie is fine and I don't hate the song, it's just that it's silly that it's getting Oscars because it's popular.

I don't listen to kpop, I am not a kid. But I follow the music industry and listen to a lot of stuff, and it's frustrating when the "it's so popular so it has to be good" crowd like yourself argues for quality based on clicks and views.

Perfidia was about to let loose.

The security company working the #Oscars has issued a statement to Variety after Oscar nominee Teyana Taylor claimed she was shoved during the ceremony:

"There was a brief interaction involving Ms. Taylor and a member of our security team during the show last evening. Our security personnel were working to manage a crowded area and ensure the safety of all guests. During that interaction, there was incidental contact and we regret that the situation escalated. This is not the standard of professionalism we expect from our team, and we have addressed the matter internally to help ensure situations like this do not happen again."
