White room reverse engineering to decompiled code then a release that was ready to be played. Granted Nintendo WILL sue people when they are in the wrong but in an imaginary world where a dev had unlimited resources to fight back they'd 100% win in court if the port is based on the white room decompilation. Reverse engineering for interoperability is permissible in the DMCA

My first AC was New Horizon, when I tried New Leaf I noticed how they filed down the edge waaaay too much in ACNH. Villagers have attitude and spice in New Leaf. The older games famously made kids cry.

The decomp needs a dumped Gamecube disc, the USA Rev 0 version. The easiest way to dump the disc yourself is to use an application on a modified Wii system (the model that's capable of reading / playing Gamecube games). This will dump the disc to your SD card, then you can copy that dump from the SD card to your PC so it can be loaded into this application and played.
