Can someone put Alan Wake comparisons? I think that it'll be the bigger beneficiary from this change (unless you're that guy that stops at patches of grass).
I couldn't really tell much of a difference in SH2. I tried AW2, but then I realized it has an official patch and I was using the PS+ version, so I think I was seeing the PSSR2 no matter what.
Now in Avatar you can tell immediately. Especially in performance mode.

Same here. No difference in quality mode and performance mode in SH2. I don't know if the performance mode even uses pssr though.I can't tell the difference in SH2 quality mode. Do I have to restart the system each time I toggle?
VRR actually is - there are far more games(and list is only growing) with no official VRR support than the other way around. I mean - even Series consoles are mostly relying on system level support, they just don't bother offering a toggle-off at all.Toggles for super sampling on PS4 Pro and VRR brute force on PS5 were not exactly made for that many games.
That's what the original post said - bypassing the version number - ie. any newer version would be forced if it exists.Maybe this PSSR toggle will swap 2.0 games as well when newer version arrives?
It formally did, but they removed it. Which is a bummer because that would probably be a good demo for PSSR2.Same here. No difference in quality mode and performance mode in SH2. I don't know if the performance mode even uses pssr though.
Massive difference. I love it when you can tell right off the bat like that. The second I saw that I was like holy shit. Now, this is quite fucking big difference.
What was the time frame between DLSS1 and DLSS2? Or FSR1 and FSR2? If there's a pattern that's formed so far with upscalers it's that the first one is always rough and after it's been out a while and been used in more games and different engines, then the second iteration that's a bit boost and follows the direction it sets going forward.Jesus took them 1 years and half to act right .

Maaaaaaan… that's an improvement! My issue with the new PSSR 2 is precisely what I liked about the old one: the games where it didn't work well don't interest me shit. But I guess it's time I look into the disc version of Silent Hill (press) f.I couldn't really tell much of a difference in SH2. Great news, just in time for the game coming to PS+Space Marine 2 is a massive improvement. The image is very stable, no more noise.
The light beams from headlights render with no flickering now.
No flickering on vegetation anymore.
I don't think they are patching games, simply looks like some games are "verified" and the system is using PSSR2 automatically even if you disable the toggle. They maybe can tune something via Firmware, but I would say they are running at the same resolution, settings.
Not really if you know a bit about this stuffIt was weird to see AMD releasing something so much better less than 4 months later. Then it took Sony 17 months to finally upgrade it, with no visible upgrades during that time.

It was just bad luck for Sony for things turn this way

Bad luck was on FSR4 part. Appearance of transformer application to upscaling had a really bad timing for Sony - it made pssr1 obsolete, but can't be used on Pro outright leading to 1+year of delayBad luck? They knew how this looked like when they released it in November. UE5 games had problems from day one.
Alan Wake 2 : not seeing any changes. There's some awlful noise/flickering on the background curtains when Saga is speaking to the Diner lady.

They probably wanted to gradually improve pssr1 on real usage data and problems. But it became obsolete so they have to switch to PSSR2 development, leaving PSSR1 in a shitty state for so long
We don't even know when they abandoned pssr1, but probably quite some time prior to ps5pro launch. If transformer didn't happen we probably could have a better version of upscaler at launch.
Toggle works on demos as well. Pragmata (PSSR1 up, PSSR2 down):

PSSR2 completely fixed that terrible smear on hair (better seen on this picture):

What about Yotei and Ragnarok?
TLOU2?
Popped in Yotei.
Can't tell if it looks any better. Game was already a banger.
Ghost of yotei looks clean and sharp, switching to RT pro 60fps with unlock frame rate rather than balance 40fps with higher res given how clean it looks. Its like a DLSS upgrade with newer model where balance looks as good as quality
Tried the following:
- Resident Evil 4 Remake, Silent Hill 2 Remake and Returnal, crisper image in all of those games.
There's an option of "Higher frames" in RE4R that I don't remember been there before.
I honestly think this game looks better in performance mode. The RT is so terrible it actually spoils the image. Just my 2 cents.
Thats a negative big red, over.Does Helldivers uses PSSR? Or is it still a slight VRR increase? Answer… for democracy!
You are going to make me buy a ps5 pro for GTA6 papitos
Ok, team, I'm gonna need you to democratise Sweden until PSSR is implemented!!Thats a negative big red, over.
RE4R in theory uses PSSR only on higher frames mode so what you see it's just CBR and none improvement at all. Returnal also not use PSSR from what I knew. Also if you just checked the perfomance mode in SH2 (I hope not) in practically you have tested all the wrong games/modes.Tried the following:

Has it? Saying this as a pro owner. A list of six games?
Sony and Nintendo trading places in the most bizarre ways.
