I love when I can sheathe my sword.

Jedi Knight games on PC let you manually switch on/off your lightsaber.
And if you attack while the saber is off it will activate with the more aggressive sound effect.

Samurai Warrior had this 40 years ago or so and it was a cool gameplay feature. You could choose to unsheath your sword and npcs would react to it contextually.

I remember that in Gothic 1 when you ran around people with your sword unsheathed, they would freak the fuck out and tell you to put your sword away. Especially the guards would draw their weapons as well and tell you to fuck off.

Now I'm wondering if anyone has ever made a real life sword sheath that makes a gasp/moan/whimper noise when you sheath a sword in it. Searching brings no joy, the AI recommends "fartbags" but thats more an after a series of particularly forceful sheathings sort of event.

Anyway yes, its enjoyable to do it on command, and I particularly liked the way it worked in LoZ:TP where you had to time it with the enemies exploding to make it happen.

the worst thing is a Star Wars game with lightsabers, that doesn't let you turn off the lightsabers manually...

I hate it...

Both Kingdom Come: Deliverance games have this mechanic. If you pull your sword out in front of a guard, they act like you're ready to throw down then and there.

OP what's better to you in games, holstering a gun or sheathing a sword?

Asking because you have a Snake avatar.

Holstering a pistol and sheathing a sword are both S-tier. But there seems to be many more instances of the latter.

A good holster is hard to beat but most third person shooters don't care about it for some reason.

Rise of the Ronin is great for this. It's got a quick sheathe animation, and a longer one where you also clean your blade. It's got some moves where you need to have your weapon sheathed to perform them, too.
