$1000 console? I'm out. official boycott thread

I'm not boycotting anything, I just don't see the point anymore. Consoles are supposed to be cheap, and once you start hitting certain price ranges they lose that advantage, and appeal, IMO. And, frankly, let's be honest, this was a bad time for console prices to skyrocket, because this generation has been an absolute shitshow in general. You can't follow the worst console generation in decades with double the price tag and expect people to be happy.
That's why I raised my eyebrow at a post on here yesterday ( I didn't reply to it) suggesting that the next gen will have the same launch supply pipeline issues and result in scalping. Even taking away the idea that hoarding multiple $1000 consoles to flip is just a 'tad' different from doing it with $400-500 ones.......speaking personally, nothing about the way this generation has played out has me foaming at the mouth for the next gen even if the consoles launched at the 2020 prices. Like outside of a few FOMO whales.....what's the next gen going to bring but more of the same just way more expensive, that's gonna have people running out to buy in day one?

Found a cheap alternative

Alien invasion will bring up the cost of wood.
This will be £199.99 in 18 months. Ball sold separately
Kojima told me

It feels like the PS6 is cooked before it even launches.

The high price (and will it get more expensive over time like the PS5 did?)
Charging money to play online (and that price likely going up)
Years between first party exclusive games
Lame return policy compared to Steam
Cross-gen will last a long time and people's PS5s will still get the job done for many

Generally speaking? Yes. With gamers, almost never. There is no consumer less capable than voting with their wallet than a gamer. They kick and scream but then spend the night on the sidewalk at retail for launch.
I have to disagree with naive gamers like Asmongold, he says on one of his I think 4+ years old video that he cares about 3D objects more than real life objects and materials, I completely understand where these words comes from and it's sentimentality, and I'm no different than he's to be frank but you ever never can't trust what these greedy corporates say and do, you can't mix these different types of behaviors in one functional society.

Why would PS6 cost less than a PS5 Pro?

Wishful thinking? :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Actually I was thinking Sony isn't invested in whether the PS5 Pro sells much, so they don't mind pricing it well outside the margins of a typical acceptable price range for a console. It's a niche device for the enthusiast. They know that and price it accordingly. But with PS6, they want it to have mass market appeal right out of the gate, so they'll be willing to take more of a loss on the hardware. That's my thinking anyway ... wishful as it may be.

p.s. Also, Kepler reported that PS6 costs are projected to be around $760, and he was speculating even a $700 price could be possible assuming a significant subsidy.

Now that we don't have Moore's law they have to rely on weird things like AI to bring the cost down. And even that won't come for free..

I have no clue what the hell you are talking about.

The 'cheap' Switch 2 lite option will probably be $349( the OG Switch lite was $199) and the main system will bump to $499/549. That's where we are.

I'm expecting $399. Yeah I could see the main Switch 2 increasing to $499.

As for the PS6, they really cannot delay it. The only thing they could do is a true 'Series S' model, but they'd have to commit to it now to be able to get it released in 2028. I still think the original plan is PS5 but now I'm not sure if that's going to work if GDDR6 supply is going to run dry.

. The stat that's the most eye opening is the average console gamer is in their 40s. Young people just aren't playing there. The industry going nutty so I nope out might be a blessing, it would leave me more money to spend on pinball.
Couldn't this also be construed as more people of all ages are playing games ? I'd wager that many more 60 year olds, for example, are playing video games today than 25-35 years ago therefore bringing average age of the user up. I don't think it inherently means young people arent playing - rather the youth bracket is diluted by all the people who grew up playing and still do. Just a thought on that random stat. Many young people I talk to are gaming and often own consoles, sometimes multiple of them. Not always the best game choices (ie Gaas or whatever).

It wasn't take the age of everyone playing, and divide by number of people to get an average age. It's the largest demographic group. The numbers worked out to something like 35-60 had more than 1/2 the total number of consoles gamers.

Sure some kids do play on consoles. But if you look around the world Sony and Nintendo are just a small drop in the bucket that are a rounding error. Mobile is where the majority of people are playing. But not necessarily by choice, a lot of times it's all they have.

Everything is getting expensive and building a good PC for gaming still costs more than getting a PS5 Pro. With that said I'm in no rush to make an upgrade if PS6 launches next year, especially with a high price and a bluray drive sold separately.

Sony will definitely have to do some magic to convince millions people to be early adopters, either by setting the price below production costs or by featuring some major technological improvements besides just having better framerate and resoluton (and PSSR 3).

I don't think anyone would want to pay $1k for this thing but if it came to it, just gotta start saving now. That's if you have a job at least 🤷🏾

New rumors indicate there will be a PS6-S, which sounds good; paying $1000 is definitely the worst of both worlds. So it will be: PS6 and PS6 Pro released at the same time.

I don't think the real problem is many gamers being priced out of the hobby, if the middle class start thinking they're rich which means they're living their lives and never thought about escaping from the way they live like playing video games, then it all starts to make sense, and console makers have to find a way to fill that gap.
