Movies You’ve Watched Lately | OT | - 2026

Watched Mortal Kombat 2 the other day.

What can I say? My bro liked it, I thought it was trash. Bad fights, bad effects, bad one-liners... This used to be direct to DVD back in the days.

Me, Myself & Irene

It has been a long time, almost 20 years since I've last seen this film. I remembered most of the plot, but had forgotten many of the jokes. It was great seeing Carrey team up with Farelly Brothers again, especially as he hadn't done comedy for a few years back then. It isn't as funny as Dumb and Dumber, but still gave me few good laughs. Also, a good reminder of what Renée Zellweger looked like before Botox.

She absolutely peaked in this movie.

Disappointed but it's partly my fault.

I thought everyone's reaction to the "reveal" was greatly exaggerated thus I couldn't fully go onboard the rest of the movie.

Rewatched it, since i was a kid. I think it holds up pretty well. And these short 90s movies that were generally 90-100 minutes long is an easy watch. I think the kids fight scenes were pretty good for what it is. I need to track down the international version though. Since I read that they thought it was too violent in the US release, so they added a bunch of silly looney tones bonks and sound effects when they hit the bad guys.
4/5

Saw The Christophers, the new Steven Soderbergh film, last night and enjoyed it. This is the second thing I've seen Michaela Coel in recently and I thought she did a great job, which is no small ask when the vast majority of the film is just you and Ian McKellen, who is excellent as ever. The only downside is that James Corden is in this. But his character is meant to be an insufferable prick, so not really a stretch there.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that can't stand James corden.

On Netflix.

Part espionage and part gangster flick with good action sequences and surprisingly gory at times.

Our main protagonist is an unstoppable motherfucker with a lion's mane 😄

I was pleasantly entertained.

Last month I went back and rewatched some movies I had seen around 10 years ago, just to revisit the movies that really stuck with me in my early 20s. One of them was The Hateful Eight by the legend Quentin Tarantino.

And man, this is easily the best Tarantino movie I've ever watched. The quality of this movie is just insane, absolute masterpiece. The story is so damn well done and keeps you hooked from beginning to end. The whole setting with the snowstorm, a cabin in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by strangers while trying to figure out who the bad guys are... that shit is so good.

And the acting was phenomenal. Kurt Russell, Walton Goggins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tim Roth, the legend Samuel L. Jackson and the rest of the cast were all absolutely incredible.

The Hateful Eight is without a doubt one of the best movies I've ever seen. One of those movies everyone should watch at least once before they die.

After seeing Resurrection last week, I noticed there was a screening of Long Day's Journey Into Night, Bi Gan's previous film, tonight. Earlier this week, while talking about Resurrection with a colleague at work who's also really into film, he mentioned that he really liked it, so I figured I'd make the most of the chance to see it on the big screen. Like Resurrection it looks incredible and works on a dream logic structure but with more of a noir vibe. As the trailer mentions, the last hour or so of the film is one continuous shot filmed in 3D. It would have been cool to get to experience it that way but unfortunately, my screening wasn't shown in that format.

Not really a movie, but it's classed as one on Disney+: Punisher One Last Kill.

Didn't really add much, it's just a stand alone episode, but it does potentially set up a season 3. Worth a watch if you like Frank, if you don't then it won't be for you.

Rewatched The Matrix, its been maybe 5-6 years since I last watched it. The stuff about AI is a bit more creepy now, but otherwise this is still a 10/10 film for me.

I watched Thr Village for the first time in 15-ish years on Friday. Still love it.
Don't necessarily believe it's his best movie (I go with Signs on that), but it's definitely the one most dear to my heart. It's a perfect (true) love story.

I remember seeing this for the first time. We rented the video and I knew pretty much nothing about it going into it. It totally blew my mind. I saw a friend the next day and told him he had to see it as soon as possible.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

I had heard both positive and negative reactions about this film. And now after watching it, I understand where they come from. While the story itself is clear and easy to understand, the storytelling itself can be a bit confusing from time to time. Some cuts also did not fit together at all, even if they were clearly supposed to. Thankfully the story is interesting, and after a slow start kept me hooked. Great work from all the actors as well.

IMO this is one of the movies that only starts shining with multiple viewings. First time is terrible though.

I really like this movie but Being John Malkovich tops it by a large margin for me.

On my 3rd watch maybe?

The dilapidated apartment setting works well and adds a layer of claustrophobia.
Plus there's something unsettling about a motherly figure being possessed and turning on everyone.

When I was 8 years old I had a dream where my mother was welcoming me with open arms and when I got close she transformed into a shrieking vampire.

It messed me up for a week 😆

Couples weekend - 0/5- Terrible premise, terrible Movie. Not even Alexandra Daddardio can do anything to help this movie. Josh Gad counteracts all her beauty.

Normal is a really fun, over the top action film. Think Fargo meets Hot Fuzz.

Looking forward to this coming to streaming (where it doesn't cost $20).

Odenkirk's the man, and Ben Wheatley can make a twisted, memorable movie when he wants to. I think Odenkirk's good-naturedness and Wheatley's edge would be interesting.

The Number 23

While Jim Carrey is mostly known for his comedy roles, he has done some drama as well. And then there's this, a psychological thriller about a character who becomes obsessed by the number 23 and succumbs to madness. I have always liked Joel Schumacher's visual style and I enjoy it here too. The way he uses light is the highlight of this movie, but the other styles work well too. The story is also interesting to follow, even on a rewatch. Then again, I have only seen this once, and it was probably 17 years ago, so I didn't remember much. I'm glad I watched it again.

Yeah I don't want to say too much, because I think it's best if you go into it knowing as little as possible. But Odenkirk's friendly everyman vibe contrasts well with the direction Wheatley takes things in. Hope you enjoy it when you get around to it!

Deadwood: The Movie (2019)

Leaves it open for more movies down the road but gives a sense of closure that the series lacked.

Works very well after a binge of all the episodes. It's a real-life and in-universe time jump that I don't know how they could've done any better.

Deadwood is competing with Breaking Bad for my all-time favorite show now.

Ballerina (2025)

Tbh, I was on my phone during the non-fight scenes. Dont think I missed much. Felt like it started at a lower intensity than the John Wick movies but built up the audaciousness over time.

One of many things that are great about these movies' fight scenes is that they don't cut/edit that often and it's still refreshing even after 12 years on from JW1.

For just one minor example, in one take, a guy is falling down the stairs behind Ana, she blasts him in the face, he drops down the stairs. No cuts. In other action movies, you'd see multiple camera cuts of actors' reactions and hiding/jumping to the "kill shot", in part to ensure the safety of the stunt people. Lack of edits has it play out in real-time instead, and it's way more impactful and surprising.

Grenade and flamethrower stuff was diabolical, too.
