Switching main library from PS to Steam?

I've built up my library quite a bit from PS4 onwards, but now I'm considering switching over to Steam. I like the Steam Machine, as I only like couch gaming. Games are a lot cheaper and I'd probably make back the hardware costs in a couple of years.

The problem is giving up the graphics power of my PS5 Pro. I'd be using a weaker device for a while until a more powerful PC hybrid shows up. Maybe the Xbox Helix, but that's still unconfirmed to support Steam. Im keeping the PS5 Pro for exclusives, so its just about where do I buy the next non-exclusive game on.

Anyone else considering it? What are your thoughts?

It is important you always buy from key stores if you really want to take advantage of cheaper prices. Steam sales aint that great anymore sadly.

Id even go cheaper on Cdkeys.com or whatever its called now. Permanent sale.

I always buy from CDKeys, so much cheaper, as of right now i'm looking to buy MGS Delta, it's 69.99 on Steam, it's 25.99 on CDKeys lol.... no brainer.

I've heard people say that sometimes these keys can be revoked due to them being sold illegally but in all the years and games i've got from CDKeys this has never happened to me.

I suppose the only downside is your not able to refund if the game sucks.

Those sites are barely legal. They sell stolen keys, keys bought in another country, etc. But you can also have good deals on isthereanydeal, which only list legal websites.

Still better than PS store. You buy 80 euro game and don't like it? Too bad! No refunds after downloading. Unless it's unplayable.

Also consider GoG for games that are available there. The nice thing about it is that GoG fucks off completely after you've bought a game. You just get the installation files, and you can keep them on some backup drive and never have to interact with that service ever again if you don't want to.

It's much cheaper if you can wait and buy games later, even 1 year later, getting them in bundles or keys. On PS, Switch ecc, even after years it's pretty hard that games goes at a decent price, and the used physical games doesn't drop price like in the 360/ps3 era. Plus, you have to pay for the online, playing on pc nowadays is just better.

Why not just sell your PS5 pro and put the money towards a better pc, and buy the playstation games again on pc?

Tbf with life getting more expensive, love my PS5 Pro but recently I've relied on Xbox / PC on new releases

Xbox games can still be bought on key sites with discounts etc got pragmata on launch for £30 etc

Last full price was crimson desert and Tokyo extreme racer on my PS

Steam sales are awesome. I don't think you'll regret it.
They were awesome. These days they're kind of crap and consoles also now do massive sales constantly anyway.

GG.deals is the way to go for PC games that are actually cheaper than console. Sites like Loaded and Eneba.

Steam Machine price is still an unknown but most estimates seem to be putting it around the $700 mark (possibly higher). If you're willing to shop around, buy second hand parts etc and do a DIY build you could likely get a far more powerful machine for something like the same money.

One big difference between console and pc gaming is that PC games are so cheap you will end up with a gargantuan backlog that you'll likely never complete. In the past month for less than €100 I've bought Pragmata, Silent Hill 2 remake, Dead Space remake, Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered & Shinobi. Each game has been consecutively dumped for the next before completion 😔

Has to be console experience in the living room. I hate gaming on a desk or using Windows from a couch.

Happened to me.

Bought Tormented Souls for two of my friends some years back. Both keys were revoked from them and neither game was accessible afterwards. One was able to beat it before that happened but the other was about halfway through.

The game was still installed but not playable. They had the option to purchase or uninstall.

I've used it many times with no issue but it is a gamble.

Don't forget to check some bundles, as they ca fill your library very quickly and very cheaply. Pick the ones that have games you like and it's a great way to move to PC and Steam.

I recently did this with the sales, spent around £200 and got all my favourite PS5 titles on Steam. Only reason I'm keeping my Pro is for GTA6 and Gran Turismo 7. It's a shame Ghost of Yotei has been pulled from a PC release.

Games are a lot cheaper
Please check some site like PSPrices for best sale prices in your region on PS and Steam, you will be shocked to see that for most games of any relevance these prices will be the same. PC game keys (not necessarily Steam keys in all cases) can be had at a modest discount of 20% for day 1 games from 3rd party resellers (not Steam). Of course, these cannot be refunded by steam. A year after release, best sales prices will be the same between steam, ps and 3rd party sites. Games are not a lot cheaper, at most some games which you might not even give a shit about might be slightly cheaper on PC.

There are much better reasons to opt for PC gaming: free online, more control over graphics vs performance tradeoff, mods, games that might not release on console (Magicraft, Replicube and many others), etc. Costs including games will overall run the same and do not expect console wake using controller and sleep-resume to work as well as it does on the PS or any other modern console.

Steam OS/Bazzite is console in the living room, it at least as much as the Steam Deck can be. I've been using some form of couch pc for over a decade, started with windows (not ideal) and currently with Bazzite. Works great. It's not 100% console-like but I only very rarely have to use the desktop.

I got one of the Dark Picture games revoked, but got instantly new key from cdkeys.

You won't find any new game on a 50% sale on key websites.
Most if the time with new games it's 5% off max.
yeah thats not true at all.

You can get Forza Horizon 6 for £35 on key sites, while its £60 on Steam.
And its like that for most new games on key sites.

As for older games, you can often get them for a few dollars while they are still 30, 40, even stil 60 on Steam.

You need to shop around more.

I did this a while back and I don't regret it at all my PS5 collects dust now.

Don't worry about Sony ports, first off it was never confirmed and secondly their first party titles aren't selling anywhere near as much as they used to so they'll likely return to Pc Ports once they realise it's money on the table and current leadership is asked to leave.

As others say CDkeys or loaded as it's known now is absolutely legit I've never had an issue with any of my keys from there.

They do actually do refunds I got a refund for concord.

Always use them for new releases. They don't use stolen credit cards, they simply take advantage of regional pricing.

Did this during the PS3/4 era, back then Steam had genuinely fantastic sales (even %90 off was not uncommon), so I managed to rebuild most of my library paying cents on the dollar.

Selling off the physical stuff I have duplicates of will be my priority now.

Good luck getting a Steam Machine at launch. After the controller launch, I have little confidence in the Steam Machine launch and I am someone who managed to get a controller.

As for going PC (you can expand past Steam), these are video games, play them where you want too. Keep in mind though, even using something like the Steam Machine there will be some tweaking to be done that sometimes goes beyond selecting performance vs balanced. At least if you want to get the most out of games. Since you are keeping your PS5 I wouldn't worry too much about that. At that point, you would probably be able to flip the Steam Machine if you end up not liking the experience.

I wouldnt jump to gabecube considering it has worse specs from base ps5 and u already got acustomed to ps5pr0 graphics lvl, treat it as a sidequest and slowly accumulate steam games(like mentioned above sales/discounts are often crazy good deals), but keep in mind u will sufer huge fomo coz next gen is coming soon, once more and more leaks of ps6 gonna keep surfacing, later official presentiation happens u will never wanna go back to lvl below base ps5(which is gabecube with its 8gigs vram weaksauce gpu).

U like couch gaming so i would slowly get accustumed to a thought of building proper gaming pc( think 6070ti/6080 aka visibly above what ps6 gonna offer) and play on it instead- u can plug it to tv which defo will be much better experience than gabecube(its gpu performance/small vram is sub uptimal for playing anyting above 1080p even if we talking current gen games graphics lvl, next gen graphics u gonna need to go much lower), big 4k oled tv screen will work perfectly with massive gpu performance lvl, no jaggies, no slowdowns, everything crispy af :)

Again- if u didnt mention urself graphics power of ps5pr0 it would be another story, but in a year it will be even worse coz likely by that time we will all be after or just before official ps6 presentation, gabecube graphics gonna look like early 3d games from mid 90s(psx era) to u once u experience/see actual ps6 graphics capabilties :P

Good intentions and bad execution. Choosing the Steam machine is ok if you want that level of power. When there's good parts on marketplace, you can buy or build a used PC for that 700-1000USD range and find a machine that trounces the Steam machine.

I'm excited for it too. Especially from a technical perspective and I love new HW. BUT that doesn't mean that your hype should mislead you into making the wrong decision for a permanent residence on PC.

If you are abandoning the years of purchases on Playstation then at the minimum consider something that will give you (at minimum) the experience you had on the platform but at least with a base 1440p resolution and 30fps. I want to say 60 but I'm cutting slack so maybe the spec and price will probably blow whatever the Steam machine is doing out of the water.

That's not to say I don't support and wouldn't recommend it but it all depends on price and as long as you know you're not getting a 5080 PC then you will know.

I have to commend what Valve is doing on Linux though. It's amazing and continues to punch above its weight class. We are in for a great future if it causes MSFT to actually compete because Windows is bad compared to where it's been before. If there's more optimizations for gamers then its a win but that doesn't take away the high praise that Linux has merited.

Sign up for an Epic account and get in the habit of claiming the free games each week. They change on Thursdays at 11am EST, and during the holiday sale there are 24 hour giveaways.

If you have an Amazon Prime subscription. The recently rebranding to Amazon Luna includes games that you keep even if your subscription expires. They can be through Amazon, Epic, or GOG depending on the game.

After that watch Humble Bundle, Fanatical, and Green Man Gaming that offer bundles were you can get various games for an extremely discounted price. Fanatical in particular which has pick and choose is a great way to grab more recent games for a big discount.

Just go slow and don't buy a bunch of games to just have them sit in a digital library. Over time you'll get thousands of games you can pick and choose from.

Im right there with you OP. I'm not planning to buy the Steam Machine, but I am planning to build a gaming PC in the next 2-3 years. My current laptop can run a lot of new stuff decently, but not great. It can, however, run pretty much anything from the PS4 era and before at 1080p and around 60.

I'm not planning to repurchase my whole library, but I will pick stuff on PC when it's cheap. I got Resident Evil 3 Remake during the last Steam sale for $4. I picked up Morrowwind and Oblivion cheap too. A lot of indie games my current laptop can run just fine and I can grab on steam and gog sales.

I am just picking and choosing stuff strategically. I have RE4 Remake on console so won't pick that up on PC unless I can nab it for under $5. Long term this will work out. The flexibility of PC as a platform is just too much to ignore with the direction consoles are going.

Physical game deals on newer stuff on console tend to be pretty good. But as was mentioned prices don't drop like they used to in the PS360 era.

In 1 year of Steam sales, you can catch up considerably, even if your budget is prohibitive. I connected my PSN to Steam and now I can continue my trophy progress with all the games I have on Steam, from Sony. :messenger_winking:

I pretty much always buy from key sites, and I'll even choose cdkeys/loaded if theyre a bit higher as they're reputable.

Never had a key revoked, and have well over a thousand games. Only ones im really hesitant on is sites like g2a or kinguin etc.
