Square-Enix FY2011 Results, 5 "Strong" (2+ Mil) Original IPs planned, Online Plans

There's still hope for an announcement at E3 for a Western release in the fall before NGP launches. Even if Square makes the unfortunate decision to bail on the PSP after localizing all their most recent releases, there's still the possibility of an NGP/PSN version.

A lot of people are putting way too much stock in this release list.

So Type-0 has never been officially announced for non-JP regions? I could have sworn it was, but maybe I was just assuming because it has the name "Final Fantasy" on it.

I can't imagine Type-0 not being localized for one platform or another. At this point, it pretty much has to be the most expensive handheld game of all time, doesn't it?

XI is in the end stages of it's life cycle, I'm not sure if it has fallen below the 100k subs sunset milestone yet but it's final update is being delivered this summer and after that there are no more planned content additions.

I can't believe someone can make stuff up and get away with it.

for one thing, the August update will only bring people up to level 95 and they've just revised Dynamis cities and added new battlefields,

It is true that the current Add-on trilogy has completed their release run but there's no hint they won't be releasing more content. (ie: next trilogy of addons)

Wait, wait, wait...

Why is no one excited that Rocket Slime 2 is coming for 3DS!?

Stop the Pachtering and rejoice at Rocket Slime 2!

Yeah, they've also shown concept art for new content into 2012 and beyond, too.

Really tired of Londa and Co. shitting up these threads with XI and XIV shit, though.

There a number of titles not placed there such as:

Tomb Raider (2012)
Kingdom Hearts 3D
Chocobo Racing 3D
Tomb Raider is on the list.
I don't think anyone honestly expected Dream Drop Distance to make it before April of next year.

Chobo Racing 3D not making it this year is a surprise though.

Versus XIII end of 2012 at this rate
Cafe launch title confirmed?

They're going to digitilize their catalog games? Haven't they already put all their old games on PSN and Wii?

Unless he's talking about FF and KH HD collections.

Oh shit, XIII-2 this Winter? Sooner than I expected.

I want to pick up Type-0 as well, but I'll wait on reviews.

The DS one never came in EU but I managed to get the American version. Can't believe how good it was and how it was horrible that EU never got it. I don't want to put my hopes up for this one in case it doesn't come to EU, the 3DS is region locked and we'll be screwed :(

EDIT: And it's actually the third Rocket Slime, there was one on GBA as well from what I heard :)

Yeah, I did dynamic renumbering because Rocket Slime 1 was Slime Mori Mori 2. :P

There was a Duke Nukem Forever trailer released in 2001.

Everyone (should have) knew that the game wasn't coming out until after XIII-2 anyway. It was always going to be mid-late 2012.

Well they said before that KHIII had no chance of being out by 2012. So it's pretty easy to assume that Versus won't be out until late that year at best.

It really is amazing if you think about it though. Late 2012 release is likely Japan only, meaning that we're looking at a potentially spring 2013 launch date for NA/PAL. A game that was announced before the Wii ever hit shelves, will release after the Wii's successor is already out.

Edit: And supposedly, KH3 doesn't even get started until after that is completed, lol. Meaning that one of their best-selling franchises will have missed an entire console generation.

Though I can't see Square-Enix doing what would be best, which would be UMD-PSN-NGP. They could fit the entire 2 UMDs into one NGP card and call it a day, no need to rework it (it'd delay it). Best for everyone, fans, Square and Sony.
I feel like a 3DS port for western markets is also a good possibility. Adding a 360 sku for FFXIII in the west seemed to turn out well, Square might extend that mindset to the rest of FNC.

Square's mismanagement this generation is astounding.

I'm not sure that vsXIII not appearing on that list means much of anything, personally. We could still see it in 2012, they just don't have a firm enough grasp of when to put it on their prospectus.

It is ridiculous that it's taking this long, though. I've heard it doesn't even use Crystal Tools, which is likely part of the problem... apparently they branched off of the White Engine way back when and started customizing it into the Black Engine. This would explain a lot.

It seems like we're going to be talking nextgen by 2013, too, which I would HOPE they want to avoid.

.

99.9% certain it uses Crystal Tools.

Judging from the new trailer it looks a bit better than XIII to me technically, the graphical style still looks similar.

Most likely a new build of Cystal Tools that is better designed for an action game or something.

Let's hope the Crystal Tools engine is next-gen ready or at least can be built off of fairly easy for that. If Squeenix needs to build a whole new engine from scratch again next gen...

As a note, their old definition of strong IP was something that sold 2+ million copies an entry.

I'm assuming this still holds given them taking K&L off the list.

I like Unknown Soldier's scenario, but I have to admit that massive destruction and death is not something I'm a fan of. We've been seeing a little too much of that in real life lately with the earthquake and tsunami and I think beautiful landscapes, cities with shining towers reaching for the heavens, and an upbeat populace looking toward a bright future make for a better background.

How to integrate a months-long system shutdown into that? No idea!

Here's to hoping that one of SE Tokyo's new IPs would be revealed at E3.

Also hoping it's a decent JRPG this time.

Who's the other biggest japanese RPG developer at the moment? Namco? Nippon Ichi?

"Square Enix Namco Bandai" has a ring to it

Level 5 I guess?

They just need to shut down FFXIV already, the damage is done and it'll never recover no matter what they do. Even killing it then making a new FFXIV will do nothing, the Final Fantasy XIV name is already tainted, there's no repairing it.

It is... FFXIII/Versus/FFXIV all use variants of the Crystal Tools engine.

Since you seem to be in the "know" I heard that Crystal Tools was not good at/could not stream assets. Is it possible that is one of the changes the dev team is making on the engine for versus?

Where tf is my verus SE? I remember once I have said in 2006 FF13 will be out by 2009 and vs on 2010 and everyone calling me crazy that it will take that long. Now I know how much I had under estimated SE. You are a joke. :<.

FFXIII has very little loading though...better than 95% of rpgs out there

Is Atlus up there?
Atlus as a whole actually sells very little, but given that a lot of their competitors have quit the RPG genre, they're high up on the list be default.

Also, Nintendo would technically be either the largest or second largest if we're including first parties now that I think about it.

Man if Nintendo bought Square can you imagine the explosion?

Basically sounds like 2012 is that start of putting focus on a new stratagy, they expect to reap the(extremly high/) rewards/revenues of that in 2013.
