Yes, he did, it was a work.

Punk isn't some IWC fanboy, he's a professional, so even if he did think all of that, he would never say it if he wasn't given the green light.

Hmm.

Fuck Punk for badmouthing Psych.

Taz's promo on Jim Ross in 2000 when he said "I would come down there and slap your face around, but it looks like god beat me to it" was probably his best WWE promo.

Yeah this is my thinking. He probably said "go ahead and shoot until we decide to cut you off." And since ROH, New Japan, the "W" word, and the Rock wasn't doing it, he went for the jugular. And we all thank him for it lol.

Taz was never given a promo like that because he'd just stutter the whole time and talk about persimmons.

That made me laugh pretty hard.

Punk's promo was amazing. He is pretty much Jesus.

Hopefully if he does leave and comes back, he brings Cabana with him. Let him have Carte Blanche of who he wants to bring in with him when he returns.

No one in the company cuts a promo off-the-cuff anymore. It's all scripted down to the line.

Maybe "crappy USA shows" just got blurted out, but the rest of it was planned.

well if I had to guess after the last few years I think ROH and WWE have a similar agreement that they had with ECW back in the day.

its kind of the unofficial talent pool. WWE get to scout out talent there and they get a bit a nice bit of cash to compensate.
There is no secret contract. Ring of honor is so insignificant that mentioning them on television means nothing

That's what I assume the situation was.

They probably set the basic gist of what Punk needed to say and what the tone would be and just trusted Punk with a mic to get there (which he did most expertly).

Punks own mic skills worked against him in that promo as far as putting it over as a non-worked shoot. It was, in fact, way too smoothly delivered. But it was great anyway.

Why wouldn't they let him shoot off the cuff? They realize he's a professional and would be able to do it, plus it got everyone talking. You really think a writer told Punk to talk about how Vince is rich despite himself and things won't be better when he's dead because HHH and Steph are morons? I dunno man.

I find it absolutely amazing how WrestleGAF is splintering into two groups: those that believe wrestling is real and those that know it isn't.

Why is your first thought that he would say that without it being approved?

It's so frustrating how so many of you think Vince runs North Korea and these are the prisoners trying to get their message out. It's a job, and they're all professionals.

Another spoiler for next weeks Raw

Match Number Four: Alberto Del Rio defeats Rey Mysterio and R Truth with a cross arm breaker on Mysterio to become the new number one contender for the WWE Championship.

Wow, you know, you're right.

You know a promo's awesome if the crowd stops that infuriating WHAT chat.

It's usually the Mortal Kombat brothers that come in here just to say "You guys know it's not real right?"

Jim Ross
Most compelling, controversial end of Raw in a long time. @cmpunk edgy, attitudinal & full of rage. Don't know what to think. Wow.
Xpac
That was fucking great. The way they cut the mic & went to break out of nowhere were great touches as well. Cudos to WWE for allowing this.

Some of us haven't commented on Punk's legendary promo at all.

For what it's worth, my bet is that he had clearance to shoot (the mic cut out was clearly scripted), went a little further than people expected him to, the suspension was handed down and they haven't decided yet as to whether or not to future endeavour him or to play out the suspension storyline and still roll ahead with the match. We may have a better idea once this 2nd RAW taping is completed but my bet is we probably won't.

No. I'm not saying it was a true shoot. I'm saying they gave Punk the reigns and told him to do a shoot promo. Why would that be so hard to believe? He certainly doesn't need every line written down in order to have an effective promo.

the best thing about this, is that punk was wearing a SCSA shirt, which shouldve reminded fans to do it.

They stopped to listen as soon as he called out Hogan for kissing Vince's ass.

I agree with the bold part, but I think the suspension thing is definitely a work. No one is going to buy MitB to watch Cena / Truth again, sorry.

You people can't be serious

Between CM Punk tonight, and the ROH PPV yesterday, I'm on a wrestling high.

None of the party poopers in this thread can bring me down.

I'M FLYING HIGH AS A 747 DAWG!!!!

Come on, are you that surprised that WWE still has it in them to work the smarks? It's all about hope. People hope this angle is real, they hope Punk's walking out of WWE with the belt and taking it someplace where wrestling matters, because Punk stands for and validates everything they believe wrestling should be about. The use of the dirtsheets in this angle has been exemplary, playing off everything the smarks have read about Punk's apparent dissatisfaction with WWE and lending an air of legitimacy to Punk's threats, even when the most hardened smark should know that nothing happens on air without Vince's say so. This is easily the best angle WWE have run since the Nexus debut, I just hope they don't drop the ball on this one.

For maximum authenticity, they should have scripted a promo for Punk about low 5 figure buyrates and devalued stock prices.

THAT would be awesome.

...add a line in there about the whole company's financial future floating on cheap T-shirts and replica Mexican wrestling masks, and you've got a legend.

They did it at first, but stopped pretty quick.
Part of that has to do with Punk's cadence.

His promo

(WHAT)

didn't stick to the normal pacing

(WHAT)

I said the normal pacing

(WHAT)

of a WWE promo.

Are you guys forgetting that not even two years ago they were featuring TNA and ROH news on the front page of wwe.com? They don't give a shit about them.

That was Shane's idea to do that, actually.

By the way, was there a conscious effort by you guys to come up with the Mortal Kombat names? Is there like a "Sonya at the Gym" member floating around that I don't know about?

Seriously dude?

No wonder the WWE likes working the IWC. They're so easy to fool which is hilarious considering they're the so called "smart" fans.

I feel like I'm being told "yes, it's commonly accepted that the world is round but doesn't the fact that we're standing on a flat surface leave some room for doubt?"
