Videogame facts that blow your mind (SuperMarioBros. SHOCKING SECRET INSIDE p #70)

How on earth is 'Eraqus' 'square' backwards??

It's Square backwards if you treat QU as a single letter since Q is always supposed to have U after it in English. It's dumb, but I'm confident that is indeed the intent.

Yup. Supposed to be the Square-Enix Master like Yen Sid is the Master for Disney.

Please let's not go back to "this game music sorta sounds like this music," unless you have some proof Capcom or the person who wrote the music for MMII worked on NES Open Tournament Golf.

Hey look, a bunch of assholes that take everything seriously! I love gamers!

I know I spend the hours of my days scouring video games for secrets and then making 12 paragraph posts about it! And when someone comes along just joking and posting something stupid, I get reeaaalllyyy angry!

I NEED THESE TO BE SERIOUS AND YOU'VE RUINED IT FOR ME!

Probably more me being an idiot than a mind blowing fact, but, nearly five years in, I just discovered the right analog stick can move the PS3's text input box around the screen.

Vincent Valentine's last limit break transformation in FF7 is a demon named Chaos.

Chaos was the final boss of FF2 (FF1 in the U.S.).
Cool fact, but FF1 was FF1 in the US…

Also noteworthy: the NES art actually looks better than the PS1's.

Your mindblowing fact is neither mindblowing nor a fact. You're in the wrong thread.

Or maybe we had a run of "I think this song sounds like this song" that got really, really silly and bogged down the topic way too much, so I politely said "Please don't post stuff like this unless you have clear evidence of a connection."

And then you flipped out like a little baby, bundling me in with WinoMcCougarstein's reply.

Mind blown.

I love that the people who post music comparisons always have explosive meltdowns when people ask them not to post those.

Just saw this on reddit.

I've always read the game's title as DK2: Diddy Kong's Quest, but it's actually Diddy's Kong Quest, making a pun on "conquest". It seems obvious now, but I've been playing that game for years now without realizing.

This thread is soooo long. This was already posted. We need a greatest hits thread...which also was already posted. :-)

Oops, yeah, my bad. FFI was FFI.
And Utako's right, he looked pretty awesome, especially for the NES. He also was one of the first instances of the disintegration animation after you killed him.

Here's some concept art.

To add more old to that old news: The game's only called DKC2 on the package, within the game "DKC" is not mentioned once. Only "Diddy's Kong Quest" is used as a title.

Sorry, I usually use my Firefox tab order fixed in terms of my permanently open GAF threads and I accidentally closed the avatar thread one, which is usually between this one and my photobucket page...

Japanese version would have fewer compression artifacts, but I don't own it.
Why is the lower left corner showing the fight against Iggy Koopa from Super Mario World? :O

EDIT: Also I find it kinda funny that F.L.U.D.D. runs on O-Y-OS 7.01 Service Pack 21

During the scanning of Mario, it brings up a little video of previous boss fights.

I remember clips of SMB1 Bowser-on-bridge and SM64 tail-swinging being used as well.

On the subject of music, there is a sample that was used in a lot of games.

Einhander - Shudder at 1:10. http://YouTube.com/watch?v=YyITEQDiJq4

Ollie king - Let it go at :30 http://YouTube.com/watch?v=yLSD8SMfE4U

Street fighter 3 basketball bonus stage http://YouTube.com/watch?v=gjsLUATtFVE

Ape Escape: Pumped and primed - Pipotron's Theme (slowed down)
http://YouTube.com/watch?v=btBHnntTuak

Ar tonelico - Ost Fenrir at 1:23 http://YouTube.com/watch?v=winKFP3Pelg

what the hell? why is this sampled so much?!

Never thought of this! I've always read it Diddy Kong's Quest too!

That's really weird. Maybe it's a stock sound sample or something?
Probably a stock sound sample. The percussion sound effect from "Chronopolis" (from Chrono Cross) is also used in a lot of other soundtracks, even in non-video game music.

Not really mind blowing but I was playing Shadow of the Colossus yesterday and never new you could catch the doves that are around the altar. I went to jump on my horse and as I jumped a dove flew in the way and I ended up grabbing it and hanging on for about 5 seconds while it flew around! I'm sure many here knew about it but I can't believe I only discovered it now after all these years....

I can see this being well known for most, but it did blow my mind and change my life forever:

So static art isn't as useless as I thought :P

de Chirico.

Mind blown indeed.

it took me a while to realize the explosive gel batman uses in Arkham Asylum and Arkham City forms into the batman logo once completely foamed up.. i thought he was just kinda spraying a joker smile/mess/something.. i thought it was a nice touch.

I don't think it's very mindblowing, and it's probably just a coincidence (or has been mentioned in one of the 100+ pages in the thread), but anyways:

ND = Naughty Dog
ND = Nathan Drake

In Pokemon Black/White, your basic goal in the game is to awaken one of the legendary dragons (Zekrom/Reshiram) in order to defeat N, who has awakened the other. The in-game backstory in B/W as to how these dragons were created is a legend of ancient times in which two twins fought each other, and a legendary dragon which they both attempted to control. As a result of the twins' disagreements, the dragon split into two (a light dragon and a dark dragon, aka Reshiram and Zekrom). In the end, the fight between these two opposites results in the complete destruction of the region.

That legend sound familiar?

It's the plot of MOTHER 3.

Notice the similar geological landmarks. The ones that immediately stick out are the two mountains and their valley, and Murasaki Forest.

There are quite a few ND/NDI references in the games. Like the grenades are called Mk-NDI's and I noticed NDI being on a lot of the shipping containers in UC3 among others.
I kind of got sick of it after the first few references lol.

It's like Kirby but more subtle; they made Mario more macho for the US cover art.

EDIT: WTF? He has only four fingers on his right hand on the first cover!
